As far as a name for the Gold Coast team goes this is what is happening...
From an email sent out by the Gold Coast bid team.

"We will be running a competition soon to determine what the new name will be. Please submit any name you feel appropriate to that competition which will more than likely be running in the Gold Coast Bulletin."



"We will then take the long list of “possibles and probables” and subject them to a rigorous process including trademark searching and market research to determine what will be the final name."

As far as a name for the Gold Coast team goes this is what is happening...

That doesn't mean they're not doing something of their own and then picks the winning name from the submission that happens to match a predetermined name suggested by a consulting company.

The Storm's name was picked from a competition in the Herald Sun, won by a teenager called Cameron Duncan (never to be heard from since) but I suspect it was in the works for a while before the competition ran.
