DIEHARD,
News Limited succeeded because of gullible, ignorant morons like you.
Diehard, played a big role in the success of Superleague :roll: :lol: THen with him supporting the Gold Coast, how can they lose?
Now the arrogant GC "Dolphins" should change their name to the GC Murdochs or the GC Ruperts - because they have a far inferior bid but the NRL and News Limited press are cheering them on at every turn.
I personally think they should use their tradition State League rep name (and colours) that they used to use. It gives their bid a whole new traditional side. Gold Coast Vikings. If they dont use that, Gold Coast Bears would have been great (joining with Gold Coast Burleigh) and again creating that tradition. With the Seagulls leagues link, it too would even tie in well with North Sydney, if they were to get involved, but obviously that isnt happening. Other than those three options, any name would do, it really isnt important.
Now that the name issue is settled, the fabulous GC bid only has a few gaps to cover:
1. $50 million to fund a stadium;
There is nothing wrong with Carrara Stadium. As is, it is better than the old Newcastle, no worse than places like Jubilee, Leichardt and Optus Park etc. Gold Coast can build it to suit themselves, as they go along. Carrara will do fine. It has first class lighting and while it is a little uncovered, needs some maintenance and seats are a little far away, it is better than the alternative, a 100km drive or 1000km flight.
2. Where will the stadium be built;
Where it is. The Robina Superstadium is another option, but if it doesnt happen, it just simply doesnt happen. Do you want to knock the bid because there is a chance they might get a better stadium?
3. where do they get money to last them beyond the first year;
From Sponsors and Crowd Receipts like everyone else?
Gold Coast is the 6th largest city in Australia, with possibly the 4th or 5th biggest economy in Australia, yet you think they cant raise money? Instead you prefer the 20th or so largest city in Australia, because they are backed by a millionaire. And one who has previously headed such succesful entities as Wests Magpies and Newtown Jets.
4. How do they improve their overall crowd averages of around 7,000 from the last time(s) they were in the comp;
They start by doubling their population, since they last entered the competition, that would get the crowds to about 14,000. Then that put a team on the field that might actually win a few games. This should give them another 5000-6000 bandwagon jumpers and instantly they have 20000 crowds which is coincidentally, roughly what they seem to get for trials isnt it?
5. Demographics - How do they convert lifelong AFL fans into rugby league followers when it is Mexicans flooding into the area.
Are these the same lifelong AFL supporters that used to average about 3000 a game when the Gold Coast had an AFL side? The 'Mexicans' who come up from Victoria, do so to escape victoria and embrace the Gold Coast way of life. Part of that way of life is rugby league. These people are far more willing to embrace RL than those who live in Melbourne. Besides that, their numbers are vastly overated. Gold Coast always has been and always will be a rugby league city.
For the first time, why don't you address the real issues and show how inferior the GC bid is compared to the CC Bears. Time to prove you're not just some blowhard Manly idiot like Cliffy.
The CC bears bid has a lot of strength, I warm to the bid more and more each day, particularly when i see the success of the Penrith side. But, it is just so far behind the Gold Coast in every area except stadium and even that is not the massive advantage everyone makes out. What more does a stadium need to do other than seat enough people? Everything else can be fixed with time. IMO, the Bears need to move full time to the CC now, and set about developing an invincible Central Coast super team at all levels (juniours to Seniors), not dissimilar to what Redcliffe Dolphins are trying to do, so that they are ready to step in as soon as there is an opening.(ie after Gold Coast and probably Wellington)
