If True - thanks for your efforts Gus !!!!!

will be missed big time, although it was always going to come to head,

Pressure is on the board & the team now - they wont have Gus to cop the shit being thrown our way.

Season certainly isn't over but there's not much positivity to write home about lately.

Fletcher and O'Neill holding the reigns unchecked?

Good luck, everybody!

What? You think Gus is the checkpoint needed? Nah he needs to be checked - our Board and Fletcher and before him Wilson were not smart enough or strong enough to keep him in check.

The whole place needs to be cleaned out - and most of what needs to be cleaned out has been created by Gus'ability to lead the Board - up until now.

Need some outsiders to come in and put the sword where needed

Very disappointing end. Shouldn't have ended like this.

We have definately lost this trade. Give me Gus over 100 Cleary's any day of the week.

Depends who we get to fill that role really. We need an outsiders view of it and changes made were needed

Beyond the shock of Gould's immediate departure (which I lament for the same reasons as many in this thread), this is another mid-season disruption that we did not need.

It also begs so many questions, such as: do we have another general manager of football lined up? If not, who is going to handle player contracts, retention, general administration of the football team? If not, who is going to do that work?

Did we sack Gould or has he decided to leave? If he has decided to leave, then some flack must fall upon him for the disruption mid-season. If the Board have decided to fire him, without addressing any of the issues in the previous paragraph, then that further proves in my mind that they are inept.

I think it was a culmination of things.
By all reports he was upset and almost quit when the sex tape scandal broke.
He didn't like the direction the club was heading and didn't want the blame.
He knows our club is going backwards under Ivan and doesn't want the media pressure of will Gould sack Cleary again in the future.
And he is a power hungry man that has recently had his wings clipped and can't stand being on a reduced role.

Nothing against Ivan Cleary I think he’s a talented coach who can turn our current form slump around.

However when O’Neill and these fools decided to go against the clubs football GM to decline Wayne Bennett’s offers they lost the greatest coach of all time AND Gus one of the most brilliant rugby league minds ever, all in one boneheaded decision to chase a coach getting a few wins at the tigers.

I always figured it was more about securing Nathan's future at the club than it was the idea that Ivan was some sort of super coach.

That would make it a much much worse decision mind you.

My guess is Fletcher.

The next purchase made by the Penrith Panthers should be the best sports administrator that is going around.... without that person we will become a running joke.

I get the sense Cleary will do a lot of Gus’ job from the coaching role.

I can’t believe we’ve invested so much in a coach that has a career 46% win record. Ivan really hoodwinked some people.

Are we any worse than Parra was with the salary cap, Cronulla with their myriad of issues, Manly, Canterbury, etc.
Things may not be perfect but they could definitely be a lot worse!
With or without Gould life and football goes on.

The problem we have is how long we’re locked into the Cleary’s

In my view we simply can’t compete with the best teams with Nathan as our 7 and Ivan as our coach. We’re destined for years of mid table mediocrity.
