Gould's Theory proves to be wrong

I am sure all of you have heard his theory that teams need "big outside backs" to do well in this competition. Gould has gone on and on and on about it since origin.
Well last time i looked Matt Sing, Ty Williams, Matt Bowen, Brett Hodsgon, and Daniel Fitzhenry were all "small" players and they are all playing in the GF.
Elford, Hannay and Bowman are slightly bigger players.

Players that he creams his pants over like Ben Smith, Gasnier, Cooper, Grothe, and Tahu are all downing Crown Lagers.
I am not saying thay those bigger players are bad, not at all...just saying thay i became sick of listening to his crap about big players and those players are now not there.

hehe - what you need to win the premiership is very good players in very good form... I've never understood Gould's carry-on, Cooper for example is not a giant... And none of the players he raves about are in the class (size-wise) of the old Qld partnership of Meninga and Close...

I try to ignore what Gould says but at the same time absorb his passion about the game.

It is a difficult juggling act but if you can get it down pat he is quite good to listen to

It's a tad rich for Charlie Saab to "expose" anyone else's perceived flawed theories isnt it? One look at his sig should be enough to confirm that he is no Einstein himself.

Gould's theory is sound. Both teams do have big outside backs; Elford, Whatuira, Hannay, Bowman, Richards and even Sing. A good big man will still beat a good little man. As it happens, neither the Dragons nor Eels were at their best on the weekend, for reasons I'd prefer to forget. One poor weekend, however, is not enough to dismiss a theory which has been spot on for much of the year.

I don't mind you Charlie, usually. But Gould-bashing is so trite and boring. Dont descend into the mire of cliche, because you'll probably never escape.

We won the game through our big outside defenders. Elf and Richards dominated Gasnier. Elf smacked the smaller Berrigan the week before.

For what it's worth, I think this is a great thread by Charlie Saab; I find it very interesting to examine these sorts of ideas on rugby league, and if necessary, quash them. "Descend into the mire of cliche"?! You sound like my frigging English lecturer.

"Gus Gould" is an idiot who loves the sound of his own voice and just talks to talk, during games they should have a Gus switch in the box to turn him off, then he could talk sh*t the whole game that none of us would have to listen to.

Yes, that is true, but he does know a thing or two about the game...

It's intriguing, therefore, that you have failed to examine the idea at all.

Mike, I suggest you attend Kris' English lectures. The lecturer seems like a great teacher.

Have you ever seen the guy in person? He's freakin' massive! I allways see him and Bailey walking around Wollongong hand-in-hand and Cooper is ALOT bigger then Bailey

Haven't seen him in that context

They're all big guys, just as far as centres go I was not under the impression that Gasnier and Cooper were abnormally large - I'd have thought Cooper was somewhere around 90-95kg?

I guess thats why Matt Bowen is so terrible about running around them ,past them and beyond them? For that matter, Utai is short, so is El Masri, Hodgers, and in the past Chicka Ferguson, Steve Morriss?
