Once a mug, always a mug unfortunately. :(

The fact he hangs about with dickheads such as Youngquest speaks volumes.

Raider, I think it goes without saying he'll be deregistered if it's proven.

The neighbours statement doesn't look good for Bird:

what's with all this deregistering talk...........

FFS, it doesnt matter......he'll be jailbird birdie.

the sharks have to suspend the f**ker for the rest of the season.

Deferred to October 8. Great. There goes positive post-grand final publicity for the game, as well as pre-RLWC publicity opportunities. Will all be swamped by coverage of this court case.

The ball is now in Cronulla/NRL's court... do they let himn continue to play under changes, but out on bail? Or do they stand him down for the rest of the season?

Cronulla have form in standing down Latu in the past, but he was hardly as central to their play as Bird is. Surely they have to stand him down, apart from the moral dimension it would be a destabilising influence around the club at a key time of year, and Bird himself would be a risk on the field in this state.

Am pretty sure the NRL will stand him down/excluse him from rep footy with all of this going on, so he'll miss the Australian Squad for the WC even if he is proved innocent.

How does this type of sh*t happen between guys and their women anyway? I just don't get it. :?

Todd Carney was sacked and de-registered for less then that
If the NRL has any balls what so ever, if proven, they will force the hand of Cronulla by de-regestering him

Latu was too and punching although bad is nothing compared to what Bird has allegedly done.

How is that relevant, parra pete?

Well if you don't know - and have to ask - that it explains your maturity and integrity.
Thanks to the moderators for deleting the post which was a cheap shot at the victim who is probably a lovely young lady associated with a creep.

There is no way the club will let him play. None!

They will probably foot the medical bills for him(they shouldn't), send him to rehab but they won't let him play.

rugby league footballers are f**kwits. plain and simple.

the reason rugby league will always play 2nd fiddle to aussie rules in this country......and soon soccer..........is due to the constant unintelligent, boofhead, and working class representations that the game holds on to. just look at the most prominent prime-time tv program which represents the game at the moment. and the prominent media identities..........gould/hadley/etc.......arrogant morons with petty agendas. just listen to any of these guys and any player when they open their mouth.

the common theme on and off the field by all associated is aggression, both physical and verbal. it's mistaken for passion by some, but it's plain thuggery and intimidation. of course it's a turn off for the average person.

furthermore, when will these idiots learn to make the right decision. Professionals right? Spare me. There's no excuse during the season to get maggot. Absolutely none. Particularly 2 or 3 weeks out of the finals. By all means have a couple of drinks, but drinking yourself paraletic?? Forget about a brain snap. Do these guys have brain at all?

Aussie Rules and Soccer have their fair share of f**kwits too. It's ludicrous to just sensationalise Rugby League.

Sharks tear up Latu's contract

By Margie McDonald
May 24, 2006

SHARKS and New Zealand player Tevita Latu has had his contract cancelled and been de-registered by the NRL for allegedly punching a woman in the face.
NRL chief executive David Gallop said last night it would be "hard to imagine a time" when his organisation would accept a future registration from Latu.

The nine-member Sharks board tore up the 24-year-old's two-year deal on the recommendation of chief executive Greg Pierce, who interviewed the player yesterday.

Pierce also spoke to Brooke Peninton, 19, who was allegedly hit by Latu and several witnesses to the incident that happened in the early hours of Monday morning in Sydney's southern suburbs.

The NRL said it would not accept an application from any other club to register the hooker-utility, who played in a Test for New Zealand in 2004 and had three years with the Warriors before going to Sydney.

"Rugby league has been at the forefront of campaigns condemning violence against women and that makes these circumstances all the more alarming," Gallop said.

The NRL will also make other league governing bodies aware of Latu's case, although it cannot technically stop him playing in the English Super League, in France or New Zealand.

Pierce said when he spoke to Latu the player cried as he apologised. "He was very upset and very remorseful, but I told him the damage had already been done," Pierce said.

Peninton had X-rays on her nose which showed a fracture needing specialist treatment. The Sharks will cover all her medical bills.

New South Wales Police charged Latu with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was granted bail and faces Sutherland local court on June 15.

Gold Coast continues to take shape with the club announcing yesterday it had added one of England's young stars, Leeds fullback Richie Mathers, to its squad for next season.

:crazy:yeah ok. Drunk idiots are obviously a Rugby League problem, AFL, Soccer, and society in general don't have them. Give yourself an uppercut.

Forget the threat of French Rugby Union and the ESL, the player drain due to stupidity and criminal behaviour is becoming our biggest worry. If proven he will surely spend some time in jail, and must never be allowed to play our game again.

At the start of this year with all the excitement of the centenury year could anyone have imagined the bad publicity the game has received this year, every week there is something new to drag the game down.

I think Bird should be gone but there is a difference between him and Latu. Latu admitted his guilt early on so it was easy for the NRL to de register him straight away. Bird is denying it so I think it will be harder for them. Crockett is an example of this, he has rape allegations against him and still played for the warriors because he denied them.

The matter is stood over to early October 2008.
Bird is entitled to play in the remaining comp games and the semis. At this stage it is one persons word against another and it is up to the courts to decide what happened.
In the meantime the doctors will attend to the victim and hopefully she willsufer no permanent physical scarring or long time problems.

As for Bird, he must continue to train and keep his head down for the next month or so.

Most of the posters on this topic are hypocrites who care nothing for the welfare of the girl and are more interested in playing politics and ensuring the Sharks lose a playmaker before the semis. They are putting the welfare of their respective teams ahead of the victim..you should be ashamed of yourelves.

This has nothinh to do with the NRL at this stage as far contractual issues and other penalties..those issues will be dealt with after the courts have decided whether to proceed after early October 2008.

In the meantime the Sharks must keep the NRL appraised of any developments!

there has been a few cases of people going to jail and still playing in the NRL.

Manua who played for the roosters in 2006(I think) did 4 years for armed robbery..

Oh ffs, the game is full of dickhead thigs. Just because a player on the team you support is a dickhead thug doesn't mean you can't praise the quality of his play, just in case sometime in the near future he might assault his girlfriend.

Think before you post.

I don't think either of us are making reference to his on-field grubbiness - he's had his share of off-field drama and that's just added to his record, and now this.

Nothing to do with the quality of play he came out with on the field, this isn't even about him being an RL player. He always came across as a filthy grub of a human.
