Greg Inglis has been charged with speeding and drink driving, just hours after being appointed as the new Australian Rugby League captain.

Police say the Rabbitohs superstar was behind the wheel of a black Mercedes detected speeding at Lithgow at about 2.15pm on Monday.

The 31-year-old allegedly returned a positive breath test, was arrested and taken to the local police station for further testing.

Inglis allegedly returned a reading of .085 and has been charged with mid-range drink driving and speeding.

His license has been suspended and he’ll face court next month.

Inglis was on his way home from Dubbo after taking part in the Koori Knockout, an indigenous football competition.

Just two hours before his arrest, Inglis was appointed as the new Kangaroos captain.

That appointment, and his position in the team, is now in doubt.

Coach Mal Meninga took a hardline stance with Canberra forward Josh Papalii last year, dumping him from the squad for drink driving.

This is very naive tbh.

In this case, and with some assumptions being made, Inglis was close to 3 hours into his journey from Dubbo and blew mid-range AND was speeding.

He is very, very lucky he did not have a RBT just outside Dubbo.

Can't believe anyone gets in a vehicle with the idea they should drive even after 1 drink.

f**king irresponsible dead shits.
Thanks for advice.
But ..
I think you’ll find you are allowed to have 1 drink and drive.

Other countries have a blood alcohol of 0.08
Which is mid range here.

I wasn’t saying he wasn’t well over when he started driving.

***In fact I didn’t even mention him***

I just made mention of how easy it would be to get to mid range.

He was in mid range about 2.5 hours after his last drink. Assuming he didnt drink after jumping in his car.

When he took off he would have been considerably higher then that and even a moron who can't count would know they are over the limit. Not only did he decide he would drive while drunk, he decided to speed while doing it. This merkin deserves no sympathy from anyone at all. He could have killed himself and others with this decision. If he wants to gamble with his life that's fine. But it's usually innocent people on the road who pay for these things.

Did you actually read what I wrote?

Yes you 'are allowed' to have a small amount of alcohol but only a deadshit takes the risk. Surely you understand that.

Going mid range three hours into a trip requires much more than 1 drink.

If it's so easy to blow mid range then a novel idea is not to drink and drive - at all. It's a guessing game. Take the risk out. Either don't drink or if you do, dont drive.

Simples.

So he would've blown mid-range when he was intercepted, a few hours after leaving Dubbo then (with the added time taken to get back to the station for a second reading) still blew 0.85.

This isn't Greg being unlucky. This is Greg just being stupid. Although we already knew he's not exactly a bright spark, even by NRL player standards...

how does this sport manage to bend itself over and f**k itself up the arse so often?

I was speaking to a client this morning about the footy grand finals....absolutely beaming about the AFL version but then i turned the attention onto the NRL GF and you'd think she'd sucked on a lemon..."i don't like the culture, I don't like the response of the NRL to player misbehaviour, it's a bogan sport"

perception is reality and the game is on the nose with women in particular.

Whatever floats your boat.

Are you a 1 beer over dinner with the wife type of guy?

I'd rather have a few drinks over dinner and grab a cab. Why put a limit on my evening if I don't want to? And why take the risk with drink drive?

Word is the cop that charged him is a roosters fan.
Cop "you know you were speeding in Lithgow?*

Ingliss "Is dat in Qld?"

Cop "So what reason do you have for the speeding besides being drunk?"

Ingliss ""I was trying to rush to the nearest petrol station before I ran out of petrol"

It's largely to do with the players who think that they are invulnerable to repercussions for the actions they take.

Screw the monetary fines which is a token slap on the wrist. Give the trouble makers a very lengthy time on the sideline. And rack off the game penalties that include pre-season matches and make players miss comp games.
