It's probably for the best that he doesn't get a farewell game from here.

If he quits his contract and Souths no longer pay him, it shouldn't count. Why would an imaginary salary count in the cap? Any other player that quits or is fired would immediately free up cap space.

Pretty simple. The cap is meant to count what clubs are actually paying.
When Matai or Stewart were medically retired, they still got paid their salary didn't they?

Not sure of the exact details, but when Liam Fulton was concussed out of his career the Tigers still had his contract on the salary cap for 18 months.
All you ask for is consistency when dealing with the NRL, but you have to remember Greenberg doesn’t like the word consistency

So if other players decide they will retire with a couple yrs left on their contract, not for medical reasons, and declare they will sacrifice the value of their remaining contract, only to be employed by the club in another role, are we all just sweet with that now not being included on the cap?

It quite clearly advantages the wealthier clubs, allowing them to correct poor list management at the disadvantage of other clubs whose players could then become recruitment targets.

No matter how they dress it up, Inglis is not going to be shortchanged by his decision.

I’m honestly gutted. An absolute legend of a player and I still find it hard to accept I’ll never see him run out again. I think the fact I didn’t get to savour his final games makes it harder, and I’m sad I didn’t get out to see his final game

One of the most talented players of his era. When he first hit the scene in 2005, he was producing some of the best plays of the competition and was just one of those players you enjoy watching. It's a shame it took so long for him to return to his natural position at fullback. As brilliant as Slater was, I can't help but feel that we were denied some of Inglis' best footy from 2007-10 because of it. Even when he left Melbourne, it took him a year to find his footing at Souths, but when he did he turned them into competition heavyweights.

My biggest memory of him was playing for Australia in the Tri Series in 2006. Australia had struggled with the ball all game and were set to lose the game pretty convincingly. Deep in their own half, Lockyer swings a pass out to GI, who proceeds to score one of the more effortless long-distance efforts I've seen in rep footy. It was like he was playing club footy in some local competition. That was the GI I remember, he could just make something happen out of nothing and there's been very few players with that ability.

Havent seen anyone as dangerous a ball runner as young Inglis was at the Storm. Could have been one of the best ever but went on the Owen Craigie diet.

There’s no denying Inglis is one of the most talented players to ever lace on a pair of boots. He’d be an immortal if he had the necessary mental toughness required to push himself further and realise his potential. But...

I don't see how that hearsay article proves he's a cheat even if it is true.

If you and your management are under the impression you can get pretty much anything you want, why not see if a boat is out of the question?

I imagine his manager said "they do anything to keep you so think about what you want". If my boss sat there granting wishes telling me he had authority to do so why not chuck a boat for dad on top?

Inglis was a player whose natural talent was up there with the best we've seen in League history, but whose attitude prevented him becoming amongst the best we've seen in League history. But TBF, there's plenty of players past and present you could say the same about.

If I remember correctly, the Johns brothers claim that Owen Craigie was the most talented player they’ve seen. We all know how his career went.
