Melbourne have got the next SBW

Probably.
The point is Popeye, aren't we lucky as a code. I mean our game is set up to showcase the players who come through to their full potential.

We might have 5 Sonny-bills coming through, who really knows.

What we are seeing is our players getting paid bigger money at a younger age. ?
That means we attract the juniors. ?
Bing.
Letting our older players move to union will one day be a right of passage for the better players. Maybe, who knows what the future holds.
I know one thing, our juniors are brilliant. Very talented, and i look forward to watcxhing them.
That x keeps popping up.

You would think it wouldn't be that hard for GI to earn $1.2 million per year in the NRL with a club contract plus origin and test bonuses. Add a bit of cash from the nrl as he is a once in a generation player, I doubt he would be leaving purely for the money if he did go, just as burgess and sbw didn't go purely for the money.

You can look at this two ways.
1/
The NRL clubs save money to use on their juniors, so we attract more juniors to our code looking to earn squillions,
2/
he has earned the right to play union and slow down a bit as he gets older.
I mean rugby league at NRL level is intense.
It can burn you out.
Who knows, maybe this is our future, produce the superstars for union. ?
That means big money for our code as well.
And we get to see the best coming through right here, on our doorstep.

We are the biggest and most intense domestic rugby comp in the world. We should be attracting the best union talent, not being content to lose our best players to union.

Attract the best union talent. ? what goal kickers.
The best union talent i know of are Sonny-Bill and Falou, and Sam Burgess.

I will say it again, rugby league allows players to shine, become superstars.
Union does not .
The reason why union players dont want to move to league is because they would have to work to hard for their money.

In Australia perhaps...

But in NZ the best talent is playing RU...

Hence why NRL clubs raid them all the time...

what a pathetic existence that would be for our sport then.

we should be aiming to develop this game, create 18-20 STRONG clubs that can all afford a salary cap of say 10 million dollars a year by 2020 in a 20 round season which is far more attractive for union players to come play for more money but not excessive physical demands like we have now with 24 games a season.

the best union talent also includes (perhaps somewhat fading today) Dan carter, richie mccaw, ma'a nonu and bryan habana. Obviously you'd only know of the aussie players (mostly crap) and ex-league players.

You can't see talent with your head in the sand.

Blokes like oikee need the daily telegraph to tell them who the good players are.

Greg Inglis can do some very powerful things on the field but he does go missing for long periods during a game sometimes (like in the All Star game).

Which is why Billy Slater will always be the better player in my eyes.

GI can do freakish things, but hell so can Slater. The difference is that Slater has been doing them on a week to week basis for the best part of 10-12 years.

Both he and Thurston are the best of their generation. Just look how awful Australia were without their presence.

Slater is the best fullback I've seen in more than half a century watching the game, more for what he does that is not evident than what is, he thrives on positional brilliance and organising defence. GI is not a specialist League player like Slater, he could do what he does just as well in Union.

You have to remember our code has a salary cap, unlike French rugby who have sugar daddies.

I watched about 10 minutes of french rugby once. After i stopped laughing at all the fat blokes i switched it off knowing that our code (nrl) wont be over-taken for showcasing talent anytime soon, even with the salary cap in place.
We held our nerve with our salary cap, let it rise as more money comes into the code through TV deals.

Another issue i have is paying overs to keep players who get big offers from union.
If the players like Falou, K.Hunt, Burgess, Inglis and Hayne want to go to union, why try and stop them by offering even more cash.

The youth are the future of our code. You think about this, they come through our code and our game allows them to shine at a young age. And we get more of them, even junior rugby players are now gravitating to league.
If we keep upping the money for our juniors, we will see even more want to play our code at a younger age.
With that comes more TV money, and more government spending into our code.
We are winning the war, you would not know it the way some clubs carry on, calling events micky mouse, and complaining about injuries at these events.
I mean to say, they get injuries in trial games. Not wanting to play in other events for cash just does not make sense.

Putting the code down that feeds you dont make sense either.

Maybe 27 to 28 years old might become a cut off age for players in our code. Who knows the future.
I know our code is very fast, for the super-fit.

I have heard no complaints from the games so far about the speed of the game.
It all seems good. The only one complaining is Bennett. I think he is complaining to keep the refs on the boil. They seem to drop the ball every year if they dont stay on top of the problem.
It was the refs who allowed wrestling to take hold. They become complacent, and should be rotated through the nsw and qld cups so they dont become complacent.

and how the hell are the NRL going to do that.
The market for RL is just not big enough.

The only people interested are half of Australia, a couple of Kiwis and a handful of Poms.

well then lets just give up then.

the only market for AFL is less than half of australia. yet they have 33k averages across the league as a whole and a 10 million salary cap.

it's called good financial and football management, something RL has always been crap at.
