That's been the only good thing about his disgusting selection in the Kiwis.Great change and long overdue.
It's criminal that AFB, born and raised in Sydney, can't play for NSW because he played 16mins off the bench for NZ as a 20yr old, same with Taumalolo for QLD
This rule will only affect a handful of players, it won't change the fabric of the game or make it an 'All Stars' game.

We need all players who haven't yet played origin to do this - that is, come out and declare one way or the other much like a college footballer declaring for the NFL draft.I see Jahrome Hughes has come out and said he wont play even if he's eligible.
"don't want the embarrassment of Laurie Daley"We need all players who haven't yet played origin to do this - that is, come out and declare one way or the other much like a college footballer declaring for the NFL draft.
The player should need to submit an application. We don't want the embarrassment of Laurie Daley picking a player who then says they are not interested.

True but too late!!
You don't need to be a coach for Origin, at least not a fully practicing one. The players in the squad have all the knowledge you need.We got rid of him, and then brought him back. I don't know why we aren't hitting up fired coaches from that year. Not all are total duds, and I'm sure plenty would be looking to redeem themselves on that stage. Laurie is just too soft a guy and doesn't have that killer instinct off the field.
Although, declarations don't really mean much though, Fatso Taumalolo declared for NZ, got the pip with the coach in a one off match and then switched his team a couple of weeks out from a tournament. We need all players who haven't yet played origin to do this - that is, come out and declare one way or the other much like a college footballer declaring for the NFL draft.

You need someone inspirational to motivate the playing group.
The only motivation I see Daley having is the ability to round up some single moms for a solid Tupperware party.
Same reason I'd never have wanted 'Chief' Harragon to coach the team. Being a leader on the field as a player and being a leader as coach are two entirely different things. See also: Wally. We got rid of him, and then brought him back. I don't know why we aren't hitting up fired coaches from that year. Exactly.I don't totally agree with that. I feel you need to have some game planning and ensuring you are getting that group on the same page. The players should have some input, but you need to be able to take advantage of mismatches or change on the fly. It's more than QLD coaches just rolling out Billy Moore yelling QLD'er which gets them the win.
I'm not suggesting anyone who doesn't know anything.I don't totally agree with that. I feel you need to have some game planning and ensuring you are getting that group on the same page. He won in 1995 against a coach who (in addition to coaching Easts) was also on the forefront of the SuperLeague war. Gus admitted later he should've managed that period a lot better.I'm not suggesting anyone who doesn't know anything.
One of the most famous victories came for QLD from Paul Vorten.. I don't remember him being a noted coach. Billy Slater isn't a coach..
Anyone who's played Rugby league at the highest level for 10 plus years has ample knowledge to organize all that which you've mentioned, along with that are assistant coaches, trainers.. they're literally sitting on the main vain of resources anyone could ever have all condensed into an 80 minute performance. All the brains of NSW is at their fingertips. Even Daly had Craig Bellamy sitting beside him advising him.
The coach is just a leader.
You need someone who is a natural leader and motivator.
You can disagree all you want but somehow only those North of the border get it and it's the edge in Bills favor.
Why do you think Madge won? Because he's a master strategist?? He made multiple rookie errors in selection and in game rotation..he won because he's a passionate motivational leader.

As a Queenslander.. please never change guys.
I think Des has clocked off.Just want Daley out. Give us Des Hasler. He will sort it all out for the next few years. Then we will hear bleating like we did when NSW won 3 in a row just before you guys went on your streak, that Origin is dead. It's only dead when NSW are winning too much.
