On Saturday 17 July, in freezing and wet conditions 5648 people rolled up to Leichhardt Oval. Yes it was a poor crowd. But those people at the ground that night are what I call the diehards. The people that turn up week in week out rain hail or shine to support their team. And how are these people repaid? By taking away the ground they love. Thank you very much.

I would turn up in the same conditions at Campbelltown.

I won't be turning up in the same conditions at Telstra. The club is guaranteed income so why should we bother? To soak up the great atmosphere?

If that means I am no longer a diehard then fine, because being a diehard is becoming too tough for me to bear.

I sat at Kogarah as we lost by 50, and then in pouring rain at Brooky to the side running last. This did not change my passion for this club. Today's revelations have.

I admit it is not good to turn our backs on the players but that is how far I have been pushed by all of this. I know the financial arguments but I want real figures and I want to know why our club is so poorly run that we need to sell out to Telstra at the expense of the fans and the players (home crowd advantage GORRNE).

Sincas, if they go ahead with this crap......as far as i'm concerned they can go ahead.....but they do it without any Balmain funding and without the name, emblem and colours of the Tiger......they have pushed me way too far, way too far

Yeah but what is worrying is the Board must have agreed to this. The board that is meant to represent US. Can't remember being consulted, can you?

Stay tuned, we are not happy with this and will look at some options which could shake things up. If you aren't a member yet, please join the footy club for $11 a year. You have to wait 3 years to vote but better to start the wait now.

We were told last year when we learnt of the 2 telstra games and jade that the only way to get the traditional home games back was bums on seats......all bar 1 game has had good crowds.

And that game wouldn't have drawn a big crowd even if Wests had won 5 straight and it was 20 degrees. Can't back this up with fact, but surely Melbourne would be the worst drawing away team on average.

People, Are we the Homebush Hornets or the Wests Tigers? The board is a disgrace, and that goes for legends like Sirro and Benny who have obviously agreed to this. (It wouldn't have got through if they didn't vote for it). As Sincas said, if you're not a Football club member, i too urge to join either the Balmain Tigers or Western Suburbs Magpies Football club depending on your origin. I for one will not be attending any Telstra Stadium 'Home' Games. Its a kick in the guts and slap in the face as Impelliteri stated. the loyal fans from both sides of the Joint-Venture have put up with enough shit. Now, we are just be screwed over, majorly. Any Balmain or Western Suburbs Football club members interested in helping myself, Sincas, and Rif Raf in a proposed stop or block, please PM or E-mail us ASAP. We need to get things rolling straight away.

Well Melbourne do happen to have the worst home ground average for crowds in the NRL, so it would be fair to assume that the same would apply to their crowd pulling potential at away games.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Tigers are one of the top clubs for home crowd average in games at Campbo and Leichhardt.

Leichhardt Oval
14,568 against Manly
18,883 against Parramatta
5,648 against Melbourne

Campbelltown Stadium
13,011 against Brisbane
8,310 against Canberra
18,669 against Roosters
16,540 against Bulldogs

Total = 95,629 in 7 games
Average = 13,661

Wests Tigers Home Crowd Average 2003

Leichhardt Oval
7,800 against Canberra
7,100 against Brisbane
13,097 against Manly
8,873 against Cronulla
9,053 against Souths

Campbelltown Stadium
15,774 against Bulldogs
4,125 against Penrith
8,573 against Roosters
9,378 against Newcastle
6,158 against Cowboys

Total= 89,931 in 10 games
Average = 8,993

We are already in front of last years crowd totals, with two games in hand, and the total number of games we have this year is one less than last year.

Surely this speaks volumes. We are beginning to draw bigger crowds already this season at our 'home' grounds.

This decision to move to Telstra is stupid. How can they deny an extra 4,668 fans on average from watching football at their own home ground?

If the games were to continue at our home grounds and nowhere else, I am certain that these figures would continue to grow.

All I can say is, everyone, turn out in droves to the last two home games. Lets show the powers that be that the fans want their team playing locally, not at some gravesite.

Why must we move? Is it all down to money? This sucks ass if it is. I'm getting more and more disheartened with the NRL and our management as each day passes, and for someone as passionate about our club than anything else in life... It really says something.

If we do have to move and it is ABSOLUTELY the last resort, and we have to do it, what is wrong with Concord??? Every time the issue of one home ground comes up, I always bring up Concord. It's not far from Ashfield + Lidcombe (Wests Spiritual home(s)) and just down the road from Leichhardt. We train there, etc... Surely this ground would pass all neccessary requirements from the NRL? All we'd need is a new scoreboard IMHO.

I dfo stress however a move to Concord must be our ABSOLUTE LAST RESORT!!! We must do all we can to save Leichhardt.

Apparently, from what I've heard, Concord has no corporate facilities and poor media facilities.

Personally, I'd love to move there. It's a great ground. But it does need some work.

Would it be cheaper to upgrade Concord, rather than Leichhardt AND Campbelltown??? Could we keep 2 games against traditional rivals at Leichhardt and Campbelltown?

E.G. Tigers V Souths at Leichhardt?
Wests V Manly at Campbelltown?

Knowing the skills of the JV management team, The Parramatta, Souths & Easts, Manly, Canterbury & Saints games will be played at Telstra, leaving all the out of towners & possibly Cronulla and Penrith to play at Leichhardt & Campbelltown.

By doing this, the club can then say that no one turns up to Leichhardt & Campbelltown anymore, and therefore they must play all their game where the people come to watch them play...... Telstra Stadium.

They will carry on about the crowd average at Telstra and forget to mention that the JV vs Parramatta/Canterbury/Saints/Souths/Manly games would draw a big crowd if it was played on the moon.

Its hard for me to say it but maybe it IS for the best..

Losing 45,000 per home game is not good no matter how you look at it, couple that with the pokie tax coming in. If we don't do something to stop the financial rot, we could end up with no team at all..Im sure that will be alot harder to swallow then playing our games at telstra..
Then if we can get things together at cambo & leichhardt we can move back there.

Look I love leichhardt as much as every other punter, but unfortunatly league is business now and this is a business decision.

Sure we could continue to play 6 games at leichhardt & 6 games at campbelltown, but at what cost. I don't want to see my team die.

As a few people have already mentioned, they may have lost $45,000 vs Melbourne, and i can understand how. But they sure as hell must have made profits at the Roosters, Eels & Bulldogs games?

blocker is a traitor, nothing more.

also this ties in with my great conspiracy theory - move to telstra - if fans dwindle - so does money and all things that go with it - shutting down another club no problem

do I think it will happen? no. However you must admit its a possibility.

Maybe if they upgraded the ground and there was more then 3500 seats under cover people more people would of been there but to know that you have to sit in the open and in the rain does turn alot of people away, they only have themselfs to blame for not upgrading the ground for 25 odd years and dont they realise from the parramatta stadium move not all fans will follow, = less merchandise, low crowd figures (looks bad for the club), no home ground advantage, this is the worst decsion ever. :evil:

look at the crowd figures this year brooksy, they are up by a long way.

If we are going to be more competitive next season, then those figures will continue to grow even more.

Does the club actually have a suggested crowd size where we would break even?

That would be interesting.

well working out a $45000.00 loss on the melbourne game, if we had 3000 more adults pay to get in we break even so that is only 8500 fans, how much are they making when we get 14000 and 18000 people to the games?

And at least the Tigers count honestly, not like Manly's claimed 7000+ crowd against us when I didn't need to remove one of my shoes to count everyone myself.
