I can't agree with that beacuse i believe we have one of the strongest squads in the comp, i happen to believe we will have a big year next year. and if i was SK this is the team i would run with in round1 assuming we sign orford

1. Hayne
2. Burt
3. Reddy
4. Tahu
5. Grothe
6. Mortimer
7. Orford
8. Poore
9. Mcguire
10. Moi Moi
11. Hindmarsh (C)
12. Smith
13. Shackelton

14. Mitchell
15. Manah
16. Horo
17. Webb

That is just my personal opionion know one has to agree with it, but i think its a great side.

No worries. I`m actually assuming we won`t sign Orford.

I think Stagger means Morts at 6?

I too am assuming we won't sign Orford. However I think Casey Maguire was an astute signing and am interested to see the role he plays in 2011.

6. Mortimer
7. Maguire
9. Keating/Mitchell/Robson
...could even be on the cards, and could go ok provided the pack lays a platform and the defence on Morts' side holds (and the outside backs get good ball).

What about this team - which is quite possible if you take injuries into account:

1. Hayne
2. Burt
3. Walker
4. Tahu/Reddy (if one of them is injured)
5. Atkins
6. Humble/Mortimer
7. Robson/Mortimer
8. Poore
9. McGuire
10. Moi Moi
11. Hindmarsh
12. Smith
13. Shackleton

14. Mitchell/Mortimer
15. Horo
16. Mannah
17. Webb

Who do you mean, Stagger?

I think he means if Mortimer played 5/8 with a decent half back with all-round skills ( eg not crap like Robson) and we structured our defence so he had a forward next him so he didn't have to make 20 to 30 tackles per game, he would improve greatly. And I agree with Stagger, I think Mortimer will make a good 5/8 ( or hooker) with some experience.

My biggest fear is that, with Mortimer at five-eight, the outside backs won`t see as much ball. That was my biggest criticism of Mortimer last year - and it was the best attribute I saw in Tom Humble - he seemed to have a good pass on him and to be willing and able to link with his outside backs. I`m hoping he gets the gig.

Not sure about Maguire skill level, eg does he have a passing game, short kicking game, however if Kearney adds some structure / set plays to opur game like the way Melbourne play, I think we will go fine with either Humble / Murray or Maguire at half (if orford does not come). Our biggest problem this year was attacking the opositions line, we had no structure waht so ever, it was almost like give the ball to Hayne and see what he can do or kick to the wing on the 5th, which was crap !!!!. You watch the storm or dragons when they attack opositions line they know exactly what to do and have several set plays - that is what we should do

I think it is very rare in the game today to go from half back to 5/8 to centre etc. Normally it only goes through the half back or 5/8 not both

Even if that`s true, I don`t like Mortimer in the halves for the very reason that he did not get the ball to the backs - either from half or five-eight (in 2010 - for the whole season). He also did not make any clean breaks as you would expect a half and (particularly) five-eight to do. As I`ve stated previously - although I do not see Jeff Robson as any sort of permanent solutuion - I`d rather see Robson at half with a very good five-eight, than see a very good half and Mortimer at five-eight. Just my personal opinion.

I agree.

If I had to chose between Robson and Mortz it would be Robson hands down because he passes pretty well and his kicking game is ok. While i think Robson lacks vision sometimes and throws a few hospital balls he can get the ball our quickly to his 5-8 and communicates pretty well.

My sole reason for thinking Humble needs to start instead of mortimer at this point in time is because Humble distributes better from what i have seen. Mortimer holds the ball for longer and that means that the play often stops with him. Humbles kicking game is not that good so he doesn't win by much on that point, and while most of you disagree I think that Mortimer needs to learn the skills of a 5-8 before he can play in the NRL otherwise the team will suffer even with a dominate halfback (simply because the play will still die with mortz two from the ruck).

Orford-Humble >> Humble-Robson >> Mortimer-Robson

No that probably happens 5-6 times a game atleast, just because it is rare at parramatta it isn't a rare with most teams (we played a right and left half for the first 2 months).

Look at Broncos, Titans, Dragons, Tigers, Manly and Roosters. All these teams have experianced halves and they use eachother very often and alot of the times they use the fullback as a second 5-8 to throw the final pass (Dragons, Tiger and Rooster do it better then most).

Most halfbacks will set up the direction of the play and the players inside and outside. He will generally (along with the hooker) call the next play whether its a hitup off dumby half or off his him. the five eight should be standing 15 meteres from the halfback on the openside (unless a blind side play is on) and organising the outside backs. If this is organised properly then bodies are in motion giving the halfback and 5-8 plent of options. The Tigers, Roosters, Titans and Broncos do this so well and funnly enough they have the best halfs in the comp and they generally are the best attacking teams in the comp aswell.

Would you really pick Walker over reddy & Atkins over Grothe?

i am told we won't be signing orford. he will be in canberra for 2011.

my guess is that herbert to bradford was a deal to get orford to the raiders for a reduced transfer fee. but that's just an assumption.

last i heard he was coming to us, well if not i think Casey
McGuire will most likely be in the 7 jersey, unless we go back to
6. Mortimer
7. Robson
which i have no problem with.

Not at all - although I don`t rate Grothe as highly as some. I was just pointing out that we could field a team like this if we get some injuries. And making the point that our backline stock is not as strong as perhaps it looks.

No offence, but you must be the only one. Very brave statement. Good on you.
