No offence, but you must be the only one. Very brave statement. Good on you.
Ive said it before and ill say it again. i believ Morts & Robbo should get first crack in the halves next year if we dont sign Orford. atleast for the first 5 rounds. then if it not working bring in someone like Humble.

ATM it sounds like Kearney will be playing it on form and how the players look at training rather then anything else. I hope Kearney doesn't pen anyone in from now other then Hayne, Hindy, Poore, Fui, Mannah and Smith.

If Robson and Mortimer show they are the best for the job over the next 4-5 months then they should play. If Humble, Murray or even Burt show they are the right person for the job then they should be given first choice. Its about time we moved away from incumbancy when a change in coach occurs.

This here is a video showing Kearney fronting the press after his first full day with the side (today).

http://www.parraeels.com.au/default.aspx?s=article-display&id=31931&title=stephen-kearney-day-one

He reports that Daniel Mortimer will indeed wear the 6 or 7 in the side, no question about it.

For those that see this as good or bad news, at least we do have a definitive answer as to where Mortimer will be in the side next year.
We don't as yet know what his specific position is, but from Kearney's tone it sounded like he is confident in Mortimer's abilities as a half.

I never agreed with Mortimer at 7, I think his preferred position is 6. I don't blame Anderson for trying it though, as we do need a saviour and after last year he had every right to try Mortimer there. Mortimer however had a terrible season, with only one or two good games.

Mate re-listen to the feed, he said he is a 6 or 7, never states that he will play there or even insinuated it. More importantly he used the phrase "work in progress", so i think the halves are still up in the air esp with the possibility of Orford heading over.

ATM they are working on defencive drills, he probably hasn't thought of the make up of the team for round 1. Im sure in the trials he will play Murray, Bruest, Humble, Robson and Mortimer and maybe even hayne, mk or mitchell in the halves to see how they go and he will work his way from there. No coach will lock in a half for round one in the first week of preseason training when none of the have more then 50 games experiance.

Guys like M.Witt and T.Smith had good first years and weren't certainties for round one the next year let alone guys like Mortz or Robson who have yet to perform. Also what you may be inclinded to do in November may change by March, remember in 2005 our halves pairing was to be Marsh-Morris but Smith shone in a few trials and played everygame that year at halfback.

I'm all accepting what every kearney thinks is best (as i did with anderson) because he sees them 6 days a week at training but I think u are reading way too much into that interview and taking things out of context.

Yes I know caylo but his tone pretty much confirms, and plus what he said with the "guys around Mortimer when he plays" that he will definitely be in the side. I think that is guaranteed.

Mate your reading something that not there, the guy around him means that where is plays depends on who is avaliable and his best position. Kearney tone didnt change much if it all and it was brought up by the reporter not him. He isn't going to come and and say yes he is or isnt in the team, that would be stupid tbh, he simply said that he is a 6 or 7 and it was a work in progress.

If Mortimer is in the team round 1 next year it will be because of the next 3 months not his first day on the job. ATM i still believe that Kearney will start with Humble and Robson (or Orford if signed) if form from last year continues into the trials.

I also expect kearney to try and play a similar role as he did with NZ so I would be looking at Mitchell off the bench and Maguir or MK to start depending on form (Mitchell the fast luke style player - I'm not comparing them just saying he is quick out of dumby half) and then look to finish tight games with an extra playmaker on (both halves, and both hookers).

I do honestly think that if Murray performs that he will be a chance, since breust has yet to play NYC i doubt he is a genuine chance. We could see any combination of Mortimer, Humble, Robson and Murray if Orford doesn't sign and I would say they are pretty much even money atm.

Mate why are you arguing so much on this little point?
I didn't once mention who should be in the team, and you then bring out the "I believe Kearney will start with Humble and Robson.....in the trials".
Why write an essay on something I wasn't even discussing?
All I did was post an update on our halves situation, if you want to argue as to who is the suitor for the halves roles then that's fine, but I won't be discussing it with you.

I'm not arguing who will be in the halves, I actually said I believe that the players that perform in the trials will get chosen and that your comment that kearney said Mortz will be in the team is wrong.

Seems pretty clear cut he will probably, at the very least, try Morts out in either the 6 or the 7 at some point in the season which is what I believe boxy was referring to.

Funny because it could well become true...

I'd see it more as:
Anderson "selects" Morts at 7 > LU forumites blame Daniel Anderson > 3P sack Anderson > LU forumites cheer 3P > 3P appoints Kearney > LU forumites cheer 3P > Kearney "selects" Morts at 7 > LU forumites suddenly won't have a problem with that > LU forumites cheer 3P.

Watch this space ;-).

I understand what Boxy was saying but if you listen to it again the question asked about Mortz position in the team and Kearney said he would be a six or seven, didn't indicate that he is going to get first crack or start round one simple stated in the team his roll would be in the halves which is pretty obvious but he first said "its a work in progress" so obviously nothing is decided.

My whole point is that I think Kearny will wait until after the trails to make a decision on the halves and that any combination of Murray, Mortz, Robson and Humble is possible at this stage. I can understand Mortz and Robson having the upper hand because of incumbancy but because they are so inexperianced it wont count for too much and atm I believe its a even ball game.

Obviously an incomplete squad doesn't help and their would be no point running offencive drills if a new halfback is going to be signed etc.

we will not make the 8 next year with no changes to our halves, im surprised we are not 2nd favs for title again, the whole nrl and majority of our fans live in some kind of disneyland always putting us in some top four category every year, when we have done nothing to improve our team except buy 3 of the duddest buys of the season, webb walker maitua.

Hopefully Wednesday we sign Orford, Tonga, and Wing. That will round off our recruiting nicely.
