Have Wests Tigers won 16 Premierships?

The Sydney Roosters is the trading name of the Eastern Suburbs Rugby League Club. It is the one and same entity.

Easter Suburbs Districts Rugby League Football Club is the name that the Sydney Roosters are registered as with the NRL

This is the same name we've always used since 1908 in every campaign we've played in

Therefore ESDRL FC have won 13 Premierships

We have been runners up on 15 occasions

Souths have been runners up on 13
St George on 12 occasions
Manly on 11 occasions
Canterbury Bankstown on 9 occasions
Balmain on 9 occasions
Newtown on 7 occasions
Wests on 8 occasions

So with Wests and Balmain combined with 17 chokes to our 15, it takes a merger to find bigger chokers than the Roosters

Woo hoo errrrrrrr

You could say that the NRL was born from a joint partnership between the ARL and the Superleague and every team started from 0 in 1998 as effectively that would have been a new competition. But that would be ridiculous. The world is full of takeovers and mergers and none of it wipes out a companies or teams history. In my mind and the eyes of many, the club that I have supported for all my life has won 16 premierships in its existence and nothing can wipe the memories out of the GF days that we have witnessed our team win.

St George Illawarra are a different club to St George Dragons and as a result they have 1 premiership to their name, The St George Dragons do not operate as a team. It's like saying Norths who won 2 premierships would suddenly say that they'd won 8 premierships when they merged with Manly which of course is total bs.

Who were you supporting in the 1948 grand final?

Whoever it was, it was a different club from the one you supported in 2005.

I very much doubt he was alive in 1948

I think someone summed it up brilliantly earlier
You take the number of Premierships your team won prior merger and then add the number post merger and that's the number the team you support has won

St George 15 + St George - Illawarra 1 = 16

Yes they're different clubs as they've merged and they have a different legal name, but at the end of the day I doubt there's a Saints fan out there that cheered for the Red V in their losses through the 90's that wasn't cheering like a mother f**ker when they put the Roosters to the sword in 2010.

Same for Balmain fans and Wests Mapie fans. All those years of losses and pain and anguish of the 90's would have meant jack shit in October 2005. Yes the Wests Tigers have won one Premiership, but fans of Balmain will call it 12 Premierships while Wests Magpies fans will call it 5.

I don't have any problem with that at all. Half the f**king time being a fan is all about delusion, it's why our games survives. We turn up year in, year out even if we know we don't stand a chance.

Knowing that - we can't be expected to count in a logical manner either. We're supporters of the clubs we love. Everything else can go to hell.

I don't care how people see it.

As long as the official records say St George Illawarra has 1 premiership and St George Dragons have 15

As far as I'm concerned, the Dragons have won 16 premierships.
I've seen my team win 3 premierships in my lifetime, and I didn't ever change the team I followed.
Enough said !

Yes you did.

You used to support St George Dragons.

Now your supporting St George Illawara Dragons.

And let's not forget all those red V supporters who still talk about the 1989 Panasonic cup as the one that got away...

If I were a St George supporter I wouldn't differentiate between the two and I don't think any Dragons fans do either.

Make any arguments you want - you won't convince a single Dragons fan their club is different from the one they've always followed. It's just now it's bigger, stronger and with more family members. If you think that's a reason for them to be upset or ashamed of themselves then you're just mental.

The fact that I am under 65 means that I I did not support anyone. But I have supported the dragons since I was a wee lad and I still support the dragons now. The fact that the management of the club and the addition of Illawarra in the clubs name means f**k all to me. We are still the saints and always will be. 16 premierships is what I count the dragons have won with the red V being worn on all of those occasions.

I really want to know where the Illawarra fans sit on this debate. Have they now won 16 premierships? Or 1 or did they never win any?

There's two sides to a merger after all.
