hayne the myth

He's hardly a myth, but the Storm gave the competition a great lesson on how to stop him.

Move up in a line and tackle him. Don't give him half a minute to dance around and confuse the defence into creating a gap for him to slide through. Just f***ing tackle him.

Great player but was found wanting today and might have to create another trick for next year if he wants to stay as effective as he was for half a season this year.

Best and most pertinent post in this thread.

Next year we'll see if Hayne is a great player or a GREAT player

Poupou, the Cowboys were BETTER than Parra

Of course they were better on the day, did you see the f**king score?

Just like in 2001, Parra 2005 were beaten by the Australian halfback. This while being saddled with either a Neville at number 7 (in 2001) or a kid with a mental illness (in 2005).

In '09 we had another Neville. At least this one can tackle, but it didn't stop Ryan Hoffman running past him for a try.

deal with it.

Mate it was 4 years ago. It's in the past but old mate brought it up hence the discussion.

As for dealing with it, the only thing that matters is your last game, and for Parra that was yesterday.

That's the game I'm dealing with.

Oh you mean the team that played the decider against the North Queensland Nevilles? None of the best teams played in the 2005 Grand Final.

1986.

Thats because tigers beat them in the semis

Tigers beat Team 2 3 and 5 twice.
Its not their fault team 1 (Parra) choked against cowboys

Ah in 2005 the reason the 'best' side wasnt in the grand final was cause the tigers outclassed them the week before, and the third placed side brisbane the week before that.

Yeah stop living in the past mate.

Parra won 3 premierships in a row. What's your team ever done?

Hayne is a very good player but he has hardly proven himself like Greg Inglis has. They are the same age and Inglis has achieved a LOT more.

Hayne's problem yesterday was that he had to do too much. He had to do a lot of halfback type stuff, a lot of passing (some of which was actually quite effective) and kicking (not so effective). Apart from his kicking game, which he is relatively new to anyway, he played a pretty good game, but the forwards just didn't get on enough of a role for him to pick and choose when to come in like he usually does.

It's a bit like Steve Menzies. If he didn't make 3 linebreaks and score 2 tries in a game he was considered quiet. Hayne actually put a lot into that game and if you watch it again you can see it. Our halfback went missing and Hayne took on a lot more responsibility.

Billy Slater wasn't exactly amazing either.

People giving sh*t to hayne for not catching the bomb...It was Eric Grothe's ball to catch, and as usual the greatest enigma in RL scores a great try then lets one in with a complete brain fade. Sure Hayne's position play as a fullback leaves a lot to be desired but it doesnt make him a bad player, it was Grothe's ball to catch.

It was actually Reddys ball the catch but unfortunately he was on the bench being rested.

And Inglis has been playing in a LOT better team.

Mr Angry made an interesting post in the Greg Inglis thread.

It is almost as if by "magic" teams that feature Greg Inglis became good as soon as he arrived in them. I don't know if its a spooky or weird thing but these sides just coincidently started to be brilliant??

da fact is it was a poor read by hayne and grothe. poor communication. whoever didnt catch it at least had to be on inglis (eg like billy 'lightning' slater did in da first half when inu caught it he nailed him straight away).

he might have been average in the final, but has been better than slater all year on average, slater was quiet for so long, until finally someone was goin to challenge slater for his aussie fullback position, so he decided to step up again

Exactly. Hayne shouldn't be doing the majority of the kicking. He needed a lot more support from Robson and Mortimer yesterday and didn't get it.

I dont think Haynes a myth, i mean hes a big part of the reason why Parramatta made the G/F in the first place, but yesterday was just a lesson to all the people who had already blown their load over the bloke talking about how he was a great of the game and going to be one of the best players of all time.

Lets see him sustain good form for more than half of one season before getting so far ahead.

Everyone bagging Hayne can go f**k themselves seriously.. he is 21 in his first grand final!! Who remembers the 2006 grand final when Inglis and Slater went MIA? The broncos experience got them home.. and the Sea Eagles first grand final of 2007, the whole lot of them went MIA, and the Storms experience saw them home - and funnily enough GI returned BETTER FOR THE EXPERIENCE and got the CC medal.

You cannot beat experience. This young Eels side has that experience now, so watch the f**k out because this competition is ours in 2010.

 yeah right this is Parra your talking about!

http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/sport/league/stop-me-if-you-can-hayne-20091001-gegs.html

Jarryd Hayne has been dreaming of this grand final moment his entire life and he has a simple message for Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy about the Storm's plans to stop him: "Yeah, good luck."
The Dally M medal winner taunted Melbourne just three days out from the NRL grand final, the most in-form player in rugby league declaring he was ready to deliver "something special" at ANZ Stadium on Sunday.
Hayne admitted he'd endured sleepless nights this week, not over the judicial matter which almost cost him a suspension, but because he kept imagining how he would tear apart the Storm defence.
"I'm sure the forwards will lay the foundation for me to do something special," said Hayne on Thursday.

------------

and this is what you get for believing the overblown hype written & spoken about you ...

742927-dt-splash-eel-the-pain.jpg

... reminds me of another player in 1999 who liked talking himself up and who also came 2nd to Melbourne in a GF .

True champions let their actions on the field speak for them .

 What happened Hayne did you believe all the bullsh*t media hype about you??? What a dick he' as dumb as Mundine!
