Hayne to the NFL???

Never mind the whole Hayne/NFL talk, what about what this means for Parramatta.

If the Eels make some good signings with this money, there's no way Jarryd will come back to the club. Club's will be offering him $1,000,000 a season, no ifs or buts about it.

Or they could sign no one, & be left wondering whether he's coming back, & have roughly 1/6th of their salary cap doing nothing.

I'd like to hope that Parra would block him from playing for anyone else through the lifetime contract and force Smith to use the marquee to keep him in the sport.

If Smith does invoke the marquee for Hayne or for any other, I anticipate that we'd probably go down the A-League route and every club would get a marquee player outside of the cap.

For me it's a tragedy that the most exciting rugby league player of all-time will be wasting the prime of his career all in an attempt to return a handful of kicks in the NFL if he's lucky.

One of, if not, the best in NRL or some plodder in NFL. Such a waste.

agreed
it sucks for the NRL to lose this guy to go and do a niche aspect of another code.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, I cbf reading 37 pages, but does anyone think the wrestling in League will prove to be one of the biggest hurdles for Hayne to overcome?

Contrast to NFL, League is not a stop-start sport, which is why the emphasis on tackling a player is connected to the next play, defenders usually attempts to tackle a player around their upper body, wrestling them to the ground, slowing down the ruck to gain an advantage on the next play so the defense can set. Players like Hayne can at least use this to their advantage, using their own upper body strength etc to avoid getting tackled and allows them to break tackles.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, I'm no huge NFL fan, but wrestling doesn't really exist in NFL. The stop-start nature of the sport means the emphasis is on stopping the play, no need to wrestle because once a player is tackled, the game stops. Defenders aiming at his legs to either tackle him or slow him down means Hayne loses one aspect of his elusiveness. He won't get the same opportunities to break tackles or step defenders like he does in League since tackling around the legs isn't as popular as it once was in our game.

Any wrestle is confined to the OL and DL. In terms of ball carriers, the play is deemed dead when the ball carried is down by contact. So once a defender makes contact, the play is deemed dead when that ball runner's knee, hip, forearm touch the ground.

There have been occasions where a fumble has been over turned, where the runner has hit the ground hard after making a catch, and forced the ball loose, and it gets over turned because the the runner on his way to the ground has had his leg brush the thigh of a defender and that's deemed down by contact so long as his knee hits the ground before the ball comes loose

The elite high school runners in the states run in the 10.0X bracket. He wasn't even in the ballpark then and would have no way of getting closer now.

Similarly with his vertical leap, his best efforts in high jump (his best event in track or field) was a district championship with a paltry 1.96m jump.... About 20cm short of most state high school records in Australia. Hell I jumped 1.92m in year 12 and I got laughed out of regionals.

NFL players are tremendous athletes, but they are not some elite class of superhumans. They just happen to have been born in a country with the richest sporting leagues in the world.

Ok well you think Davis isn't world class what about Marquise Goodwin and Jeff Demps, Goodwin was a long jumper and competed at London 2012, his PB is 8.33m, he placed first at the US Olympic trials, Demps won a silver medal with the US 4X100m relay team in London. There was also a guy a few years ago named Jeremy Bloom who was a 3 time world champion freestyle skier and is in the US skiing hall of fame, he gave up the sport to pursue football, there's a guy who plays for he bengals now named Margus Hunt who was a junior world record holder in discuss, another guy who tried out for the 49ers, Lawrence Okoye holds the British record for discuss.

I understand this and agree. But the way a few blokes on here go on its as if they invented the game of NFL. I  at the blokes who have watched it for '3 years' and '7 years'. That's a loooooooong time fellas.

I'm no expert and no hater of the game but I've been watching it over 20 years. Look how long my eDick is.

Mate all I said was even though I've been watching the game full on for years, my knowledge is about that of a 1st grader, I never claimed to be an expert though I'd say I'm more informed than someone who watches the half time show of the Super Bowl once a year. I was merely replying to someone who claims Hayne might know a lot of he's studied it for the last few years, alot of guys who play 4 years in college are still learning the ropes

He'll never carve up there anyway.

He's a 1000000000/1 chance to make it,even the majority of gun College players don't make it in the NFL and they are people who have played the sport there whole life.

I don't think he cares if he doesn't make it,its more about the fact he didn't wanna die one day without at least giving it a shot.

This. Hayne is one of my favourite players, have met before, had photos with him, etc and I've labelled him the best player in the NRL on numerous occasions and I admire his leap of faith but I laugh at people who don't watch NFL at all who think he's just going to go over there and be a big star because he's a superstar in rugby league and that somehow transfers over to NFL

And that is an admirable thing to do. It just sucks because he is such a talented Rugby League player.

One of my favourite moments from the entire year was when he run into the grand stand after Origin 2.
