Played the game for nearly ten years at amateur level, the physical demands and psychology not far apart, the technical issues massive difference. If he was taking it up at a semi pro level I'm sure he'd do well at it but at nfl level, massive outside chance of making the cut. Best of luck to him though.

When I first started watching NFL Joe Montana was QB for the Niners, Brett Farve had never thrown a football professionally and Marcus Allen was in his second season with the Raiders

But having watched for 30 years, I've still no f**king idea if Hayne can make it. I just wish him the best.

Ive got no idea either. Id say he is a longshot at making at best, but thats not my point.

Thats not my issue, its the posters who have watched a few minutes of SportsCenter and think they are the foremost experts on the game. And assume that every else here is just some insular no-nothing sportsfan.

There was that Union player that played TE for the Giants I believe, he went okay for a period of time.

If there was a player in league that could go over and make it in the NFL, it is him. He has the size, speed and most importantly his vision for open space is quite good.

I hope he is given a decent shot and opportunity. I really believe he can make a team and contribute.

I don't think anyone is trying to underestimate what a fine athlete hayne is. He is brilliant and apparently tested quite well. However there are lots of fine athletes in the NFL for a number of reasons like population, money, specialisation and yeah PEDs.

So I think all anyone is saying is that hayne will just be one of a number of freakish athletes to try and crack the NFL. Former ufc HW champion and current pro wrestler Brock lesnar actually made a practice squad but was cut and he's an absolute freak really. As someone said earlier James gatlin has an actual gold medal and he couldn't crack a team.

Most US athletes leave to play pro sport - pays better

That must be why Maurice Greene shipped his Ferrari over to Australia for the 2000 Olympics.

It's the same in sports like swimming, if you're not winning medals at international meets you can't expect a big pay day.

Why, because you think you know more, or because you don't understand what they're saying or because you believe no other sport should be mentioned here?

I know people that watch as much if not more NFL than NRL - it doesn't mean they don't know anything about NRL or NFL. It just means they enjoy both and enjoy talking about both.

Whats the big deal?

I guess I just get irritated easily be lameness.

NRL is a contact sport, NFL is more of a collision sport. I have no doubt that Hayne will be tough enough, but the physical strain does differ between the two games.

Tell that to Sam Burgess. I'm pretty sure the NRL is a collision sport...

Soccer, AFL and basket ball are contact sports.

One of the PTI commentators on ESPN have just said "that he would be nothing but squaddouche'":lol::lol:

IMO, he simply won't make it.

If anything,Hayne is simply looking for a reason to have a year off from football.

One thing he has going for him that people have overlooked Is the fact that he's been a professional athlete for 10yrs...

A lot of the kids he's up against would not have that experience and can struggle to come to terms with it...

You f**king idiot... Did you even watch the whole segment???

He said the chances of him making it to the NFL were "squadouche" meaning "zero" or "Ziltch".

"Squadouche" is the previous producer Tony Reali's term.

Wilbon also said "Squadouche" to a golf question and a basketball question previously in that segment.

A couple of selfish twats around in this thread. The guy only has one life and is taking a risk to follow a dream. That's admirable. Every other complaint is just people worried about how it will affect their favourite team/sport negatively.

Will miss watching him score tries but more power to him.

Do you know how slow a 10.7 in high school is on the world stage? Those sort of times would have seen him collect a silver at the bloody Australian national juniors this year against a pack of whiteys FFS, and that winner was a good 4-5 metres off the national record.

The yanks losing a runner like him the the NFL would have zero impact on their olympic hopes, given he wouldn't have had a hope of being near the Olympics to begin with

That 16 year old Tassie kid did it in 10.44 the other week so a 10.7 isn't real impressive from a sprinting perspective

Jarryd Hayne's NFL move an exciting prospect, says Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll

Pete Carroll, coach of the NFL champion Seattle Seahawks, is excited by the possibility NRL superstar Jarryd Hayne could make it in the NFL.

Carroll was asked about Hayne's NFL quest at a media conference and his responses suggested Hayne's plans to try out are already advanced.

The title-winning coach appeared to be joking when he said: "Our scout down under has been on this for some time now."

But he left no doubt the Seahawks were intrigued to see what Hayne could do.

"He's an incredible athlete and a great competitor, so we'll see where it goes," said Carroll.

"I'm afraid to mention anything because I'm not sure of the rights things and contract issues down there. We'll leave that up to (Seahawks general manager) John (Schneider) to figure out."

Carroll said he did not meet Hayne when the 26-year-old visited the Seahawks' facilities last month after meeting University of Washington coach Chris Peterson.

Pressed about Hayne, Carroll said: "I don't think I'm able to talk about that.

"We couldn't talk about a player on another (NFL) team, so I don't want to mess it up. But it's a pretty exciting thought.

"I've always thought it would be cool to recruit down (in Australia) and all that because there are some great players and it (rugby league) is a great game.

"It's a very physical and demanding game, so those guys have all the same stuff we're looking for in our guys."

That's how I see it. No doubt he could play it at a reasonable level. A semi-pro team will have less plays for starters but the best... probably left his run too late

Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman also was asked if Hayne could do it.

"It depends on what position he is trying to play," Sherman said. "If he can adjust and grasp the strategic part of the game, I think he would do fine. That's to be seen."

And could Sherman play rugby?

"I don't know," Sherman said. "I don't really know the rules to rugby, but I think I'd do all right."
