That's where I see him. Special teams early on. He'd be deadly on the punt returns

Punt returning isn't just about being fast or agile, the guys who are gun punt returners have Olympic level speed, in fact theres a bloke over there named Jeff Demps who won a silver medal with the US 4X100m relay team and despite playing football in college still can't get a roster spot

He'll struggle in any attacking position outside of receiver. I tried out football after years of "having your hands up ready for the pass" being drilled into me through league and union, which completely goes against catching in football.

Watch him turn into a crazy freaky athlete after his coach prescribes him large dosages of PEDs, though.

I thought he was taller than that?

TE seems the most suitable position for his size/weight and it's more a position where you run straight lines and not every TE is a good blocker. He'd be a Jimmy Graham/Julius Thomas style TE if that's the position he played. TE's also don't have breakaway speed like a WR does. They are bulkier than a WR as they play off the line of scrimmage (most of the time). They do go across the middle as well so they need to take a hit.

He could possibly be a possession style receiver but the routes for a WR are a little more complex than that of a TE.

I'm with Paully though, I admire his willingness to give it a go but I think he could be back for the start of next season if the scouts don't like what they see.

Has he done a draft combine style day where he does all the tests they put college prospects through prior to the draft?

I say good luck to him. You only live once and if he wants to give it a go while he still has the chance, why not? Better than sitting on the couch at 40 wondering "What if?"

Pretty brave decision too, given his profile in the game. Shows he has a bit of balls. I always thought he was a whiny brat on the field, but I have nothing but respect for him running the risk of failing in the spotlight. It might not work out, but you know what? The NRL will have him back in a microsecond.

This reeks of when a girl is told

" oh you could be a model"

Exactly.

I hope he succeeds, but i'm almost certain he will be back in league sooner rather the later. What does he have to offer that some other merkin coming out of college who has played the game his whole life doesn't ?

im not an eels fan but i think he's a bigger loss to league than burgess of $bw
when you look at some of his efforts over the years, especially in piss poor eels and nsw sides it amazing to think what he could have been had he had decent halves feeding him the ball and forwards making ground

Would probably get more money if he came back too with the new ceo's discretion rule for stars from other codes, just flirt with rugby a bit...

I am stunned. Just woke up to read it all over FB. Can't believe it wtf

No one can say he's "no loss" to the our code or that he's "easily replaceable". Make no mistake, this is a huge huge huge loss to the NRL

Not yet it isn't. The release from the Eels is conditional and we don't start the next NRL season for another five months. We may know a lot more about where his future lies by then.

I said as much on the Parra sub-forum but I can't even get mad at him. He has carried our club through shitty administrations, constant coaching changes and some of the worst rosters you will lay an eye on in the modern game.

It hurts that he left at a point that gives us little room to find a replacement - not to mention that Parra finally looked to be on the up - but he has given up plenty for Parra so I am happy to wish him the best in pursuing a long-time dream of his.

My exact thoughts, spoken like a true supporter of Hayne.
I hope he makes it, unfortunately as much of an athlete as he is, I don't see him being more than a kick/punt returner, hopefully one for the Browns ;)

Without Hayne NSW don't win the Origin series this year.

He was incredible, one of the greatest series I have seen by a player. It put him up there with Lewis, Daley, Fittler and Langer in terms of Origin greatness.

I rate SBW and Burgo, but Hayne is something else in terms of excitement.

A massive loss to Parramatta, NSW, Australia and the game in general.

Id be gutted if I was an Eels or NSW fan.

Might be too short for TE.

He'd have been told he was a good shot of getting drafted I'd say, even if he plays at college level I'd watch him play. Hopefully the Browns pick him up, huge upside, just needs to do some learning.
He's too short to be a TE, imo. Safety, PR/KR or RB would be my guesses.
