Hayne to the NFL???

I personally dont think this is such a bad thing....

i mean, its a shame to lose Hayne (both for the NRL and for Parra), but its not like losing a player to vfl or union. NFL and NRL arent competitiors in the Australian market.

For most AUstralian sports fans, NFL would be seen as this god-like figure of competitions. To a degree, the ARLC could harness this and present itself as a potential partway through to the NFL. (few is any would actually make that jump, but 8 uear olds arent going to know that. using the love of the NFL to bring kids into RL teams would be a brilliant marketing tactic)

On a side note: id love to see the ARLC push for some kind of loose partnership with the NFL (similar to the Touch Football partnership). For the NFL, its a touchpoint within Australia/ for RL, its a link to a behemith of a brand.

As much as I feel for Eels fans right now it is obviously something the club knew about before his new contract, from the statement it is not being done lightly and if fails he will return to the eels. I think he has gone about it with alot more respect for the eels and their fans than SBW did and can't bag a guy for following his dream. Good luck to him I hope he is successful.

Jarryd says he has done it all in RL (like they all do).

Where's that premiership ring mate?

Folau to eels. They wouldn't release Hayne unless they had another superstar signed

RL manages to lose another player to another sport.

What is wrong with our game???,

Our game's international appeal is weak. Forget the money, Hayne clearly left to fulfill a massive challenge that many kids all over the world had dreamed of from a young age.

IMO, this once more pushes the case of how important it is to develop International RL into something that is widely renowned, that inspires kids to dream, and where dreams can be fulfilled.

I have a sneaky suspicion that he'll be back come Rnd 1 2015, or at the latest midseason.

He's a sensational athlete and a natural football player. And had he been playing NFL for 10 years, going through the college system, then he'd probably be an established player by now.

But, he hasn't. Instead he's going over at 26 years of age with no real knowledge of how to play the game at all.

As such he has no more chance of making it in the NFL as Lesean McCoy or Jamaal Charles would have of making it in the NRL were they to come over to Australia right now.

Without Hayne NSW don't win the Origin series this year.

He was incredible, one of the greatest series I have seen by a player. It put him up there with Lewis, Daley, Fittler and Langer in terms of Origin greatness.

I rate SBW and Burgo, but Hayne is something else in terms of excitement.

A massive loss to Parramatta, NSW, Australia and the game in general.

Id be gutted if I was an Eels or NSW fan.

I reckon that knights winger, Mata'utia (??) will slot in pretty well...

He might not win it for them next year, but he'll be our GI in the not too distant future.

He'd have been told he was a good shot of getting drafted I'd say, even if he plays at college level I'd watch him play. Hopefully the Browns pick him up, huge upside, just needs to do some learning.
He's too short to be a TE, imo. Safety, PR/KR or RB would be my guesses.

He won't be entering any draft or playing college football, would make no sense at his age.

He's 6 foot 3". That's not too short is it? Some of the best like Shannon Sharpe were shorter than that.

I'm six foot 2"and I've met Hayne and he is taller than me.

Most of the elite TE's are 6'4 or above. He's got really good size for a WR imo.

Not yet it isn't. The release from the Eels is conditional and we don't start the next NRL season for another five months. We may know a lot more about where his future lies by then.

Don't be ridiculous. They're not going to force him back because it kills any chance of him coming back as part of his "lifetime" contract.

The release is conditional because he can't just go anywhere. He can't go to a rival club. He's only free to go overseas.

If there was such a market, I'd gladly put $100 on Parramatta making the 8 next season, then missing it in 2016 if (when) Hayne returns.

Well this is just shit luck for the NRL.

If we'd lost him to Union or AFL then it would be time for some soul searching, but there is nothing that the game could do to stop someone like Hayne from chasing such a long shot.

Not too short no but Shannon sharpe played a decade ago and these days tight ends tend to be 6'5 plus, 250 pounds and come from basketball backgrounds. Hayne has a prototypical wide receiver build

Where's that premiership ring mate?

He specifically said the first time that question was asked that a premiership was the only thing left to achieve and followed it up by saying (paraphrasing here) that for him it is about the journey more than the goal so if leaving for the NFL meant missing out on bringing a premiership to Parra, so be it.

Later on, near the end of the presser, he was asked the same question and simply replied that he had done it all.

Vernon Davis is around the same height but I take your point with guys like Gronk, Graham, Thomas etc a good 5-10 com taller.

Whist he has WR size I don't believe he has WR speed. He looks to be similar size to Demaryius Thomas but that guy has freakish speed. He runs away from defenders. Hayne hasn't got that although someone must see something in him for him to be making this move. I hope he does well.

Losing a player to AFL is such a shit go,a crappy undemanding sport with less exposure and only popular in 1 populous State of Australia .Losing a player to the NFL,NBA et al such potentially huge money and fame ,well we(including the NRL) cant blame them really .
