Would rather coach the Cowboys than Raiders...
Foz said:I'd rather live in Nth Qld than Canberra(prefer hot weather) but Canberra look to me to be on an upward trend and Nth Qld sliding down the ladder.
They look a well drilled team so Canberra are coachable.
I reckon they will appeal to some good coaches.
There is some talent in the Cowboys side too but a few of the things they do dont appear coachable to me.I suppose it would keep you interested.
Obviously Henry has fond memories of Nth Qld but other than the weather I reckon that Raiders gig would be a better one.
Unless its a financial matter of cause.
Henry staying with Raiders ... for now
March 30, 2008 - 9:40PM
Canberra coach Neil Henry denied he would be seeking an immediate release from the Raiders before claiming he hoped to make a decision on his NRL future by the end of the week.
A newspaper report today claimed Henry - contracted to the Raiders through to the end of the 2009 season - wanted out of club to take up a massive five-year offer to succeed Graham Murray as North Queensland coach next year.
Henry rejected speculation he had already agreed to terms with the Cowboys, but anticipated a decision between remaining at the Raiders or linking with either the Cowboys or Brisbane was only days away.
"I said (before that) some time in the next two weeks we're sitting down again with management here and I guess that time's up at the end of this coming week," Henry told ABC radio.
"I'm not seeking an immediate release and that's not even a remote possibility that I would be there (North Queensland) this year.
"I'm looking at my situation here - I'm contracted here this year and next year and at this moment it's media speculation."
The Raiders have offered Henry a two-year extension, but there is obviously plenty of appeal in returning to Townsville and taking over a playing roster brimming with talent.
Henry had four years at the Cowboys as an assistant coach before joining the Raiders last year, but his friendships with general manager Dean Lance and chief executive Peter Parr stretch back to their time with the now defunct Adelaide Rams in the late 1990s.
Parr said the Cowboys would only talk to Henry if he was successful in getting a release from the final year of his contract, the club having no intention of installing an interim coach for 2009, an option the Broncos are believed to be considering.
"What I've said to Neil was that if he was to be in a position where he could exit from his contract at Canberra then the Cowboys would like to have a serious talk about him coming to our club," Parr said.
"At the moment it's a situation between Neil and the Canberra Raiders.
"We don't want to drag it out too much further than what it has ... if Neil wanted to be considered for the position then he'd have to move fairly quickly.
"We'd like to do it within the next week or two."
Speculation surfaced today that the Cowboys would show Murray the door this week following the team's 0-3 start to the season, a claim Parr rejected.
"We're committed to Graham Murray to see out the season and that's our intention at the moment so I couldn't see any change to that,' Parr said.

Yeah and I can actually understand the outrage, but I think Henry has ties to North Queensland and sees a problem he wants to be part of to fix.Raider_69 said:How about the fact the bloke signed a contract?
How about the fact he has spent the past 18 months talking up how much he loves canberra?
How about the fact he has given his word to seeing out his contract at canberra at the very least?
How about the fact he has spent this entire off season talking about how Todd Carney should be loyal and finish the job started at canberra?
No I think it's more Henry was actually an asset to our club and our management(once again) f**ked up by letting him go.Raider_69 said:at the very least he owes us the commitment to see out a contract he signed, IE a commitment promised to the club. The Cowboys were happy with Murray, they wernt going to give him a chance... we could have gone with any number of well known coaching options, we didnt, we gave Neil Henry a chance to prove himself as a coach, now as soon as he does, the cowboys realise they f**ked up and want a piece? and whats worse is Henry appears willing to do so?
And what good is that going to do to your club?Raider_69 said:yes another club probably would have eventually given him a go in FG... but they didnt we did. If he wants a release, i say the raiders should refuse it, stick him in the office doing paper work until the end of next season and hire someone who wants to be here.
Obviously....but the fact is he does actually have strong ties with the North Queensland team. The Informer said:Don't think it's anything to do with Henry's love affair with Nth Qld.
Cowboys have offered him a 5 yr deal from 2009 onwards on decent money.
Raiders have offered a 2 yr extension on far less money.
4 yrs x $ decent difference = serious consideration.

Of course we're not. But its happening all to often with canberra, im sick of it and frankly the club needs to take a stand and make a statement to the rest of the NRL that we wont be pushed around any longer.Shorty said:But seriously, you're not the only club to give coaches a chance, stop acting like you did this miracle for him when another club would have eventually.
This happens all the time,no big deal.
