The guy has lots of potential, but he drops a lot of ball.

He can be covered. If Houston and Danny picked up season-ending injuries in the off-season, no-one would be too concerned. We can cover them.

The only concern (for me) is that the whole drug thing will affect the rest of the playing group.

If it doesn't, i think we're sweet.

Him and Wicks have left us battling at 400K+ below the salary cap for the entire year, but I don't think he's irreplaceable long-term, and if it means we sign a Gasnier and another couple of good players I'd say well worth it.

Are you even remotely trying to imply what i think you are?

Depends on what you think I am trying to imply.

I am wondering if people's initial opinions have changed in hindsight. Whether they miss Houston or not, just interested to see what people think.

Houston would have made about a +6 change to our points differential. He was a wide running Dan Tolar, i always thought he was grossly overated.

I think the issue is not that Houston was a genuine star, its just that to this point we haven't replaced him and its still 50/50 that we'll get anyone of note.

I think we never planned to replace him or Wicks. I think it's blatantly obvious what the clubs plan was the whole time.

I hope there is a plan because the stakes are getting higher by the minute.

We've cash to burn and still no one wants a bar of us.

They are obviously seeking their marque player and we can't begrudge them for doing that. If we get Gasnier or any one else they are going for - then great. I understand our frustrations here however it isn't something that is going to happen overnight.

Here is a potential replacement for Houston - and one even Roopy would be enthusiastic about!

Anthony Tupou - can trigger a release due to Stuart leaving the Sharks, senior players apparently at "loggerheads" with the board.

Thoughts?

It would be a risky one I reckon. He'd expect good coin (rumour puts him on phenomenal money at the Sharks) and it's been a long time since he has shown anything like his potential.

Would prefer Houston over Topou.

Topou would be the definition of over-rated.

We'll if he wanted to come here to rebuild his reputation and regain his rep jumper, then fine.

If he wants to come here on full whack then no thanks.

Have to be worth a discussion, just to see where his heads at.

Obviously he signed with Cronulla as a Test player, and any new contract would reflect that he no longer has that status. I think he'd be great on the right money.

Agreed. What do you think is the right money?

I wouldn't be paying him a cent over about $125-150K.

I don't think we need to go into the details (and i don't really know the details), but the Tupou family recently went through some terrible times, and our NYC side wore black armbands in the game against the Titans I think, because so many of our side are very close to the Tupou family.
They are an incredibly close family, and i think Ben Tupou could well be back for us at some stage.
Anthony attended dozens of games to watch Ben play with guys like Pete Mata'utia, Kruise Wilson, Jake Finn etc etc being almost like family - Anthony was king of the kids, being a current Aus player at the time and friendly to all.
If we signed him he would be our best clubman from day one - he has a better relationship with our young guys than Simmo or Kidley.
