How's SJ going?

Shaun had the midas touch for the Sharks in 2020 and I think led the league for try-assists, he was in superb sublime form until he did his achilles.

But I don't seem to have seen much from him this season. Has he gone downhill or has he been stifled by the lack of forward dominance? Or just too old?

He’s been woeful. He’s not the only one, but he’s up there

Remember when he first joined the Sharks and Cronk was roasting him on TV for being shit?

That's the SJ we all know.

Lol I remember that, was ridiculous from Cronk as Shaun was up at the top of the comp for try assists and was actually playing ok

Best way to describe Shauns play now is head not in the game, and it is depicted perfectly in this little exchange here where he has to make a little dig at Kemp

He's not here to win games. He came back to the warriors just because he wanted to be close to his family.

Im worried the CNK signing might be similar.

There's probably an element of that for CNK, but CNK has always seemed like a pretty tough, hearty player to me unlike SJ.

Todd Payton Face to Face interview when describing being assistant coach to Cowboys with Thursdon, pulled him aside and said, "tell me the truth", elite players want to be coached. Not sure SJ wanted to be coached?

I see Trent Boult has stepped away from the Black Caps.
Sign him up, surely he'd perform better than SJ....is that a stretch?

WTF are we going to do with this guy next year?

My (dusty and cracked) crystal ball says he'll start 2023 as our first choice halfback, continue stinking up the joint, then chuck a tantrum when he's rightly demoted to NSW Cup, becoming a large and vocal distraction for the club - especially if he decides he's above the coaching of Webster, potentially undermining the new coach along the way.

It feels like the best solution is for a quiet and amicable split right now, shipping him off for a lucrative Super League payday or something, but he seems pretty set to stay in Auckland.

I would LOOOOOOOOVE to be wrong but I just can't see him as the dominant and controlling halfback we need him to be. And the second choice of the old dancing, jinking, running SJ is a long distant memory.

How do you see this story finishing?

You're dead right. He's going to be there and the same as this year but a bit worse. He can kick a drop goal though unlike the rest of em, so at least when we're playing golden point with other terrible teams there's a chance.

And he’s said he wants to continue playing after next season as well. I can see him having a Stella 1st 5-6 weeks and then getting a nice 2 yr extension to his contract before he settles in to mediocrity again

He's never going to get better - this is as good as he gets now.
He is taking the space of someone who is going to try.
Opposition know he isn't going to run and he still can't tackle.
When he told Robinson what he was going to do for "his" team he was telling porkies.

getting old and never living up to your promise are hard things to accept
