Huge wrap on Parramatta Eels' 17-year-old Bevan French

Cant argue with any of that. If its a confidence thing why not try if hes with us for another year. Id love to see Gutho in the centers and Hayne on the wing and I think thats a way for it to happen. I didnt mind the Norman to 1 suggestion either with Salmon at 6 and Gutho inside Hayne. One think is sure and certain though and that is Bevan cant be selected at wing ever again. Its been diagolical for months and last night was a Sandow type performance. Utter garbage.

Norman said in the Friday Sky interview that he didn’t think he had the speed for fullback anymore.

Laugh all you want, but if he leaves and plays fullback he could end up tearing us a new arsehole every year. Though giving up on the Don chase tonight was a worrying sign. Glad he was immediately hooked for Salmon.

That was the most surprising thing of all during that try, Gutho gave his all but was never going to catch Don, French could have easily caught him to keep him in the corner but he just started jogging and Gutho was screaming at him to keep him out wider....... very odd.....the coach made the right decision to hook him.

French looked really stressed during the match. Not only is he a player who has deficiencies in his bag of tricks (the trade off is his pace and handling) he now has the yips and it appears, gives no f**ks. Oh dear.

His body language in the team song video speaks volumes.

5 games left. Put him at fullback. Gutho in the centers and Hayne to wing. Absolutely not a winger. To my mind it should have happened already. Get busy BA ffs.

Putting him fullback now would be rewarding him for continual poor showings recently.
Not the move we should be making as a team.
He should be dropped to Wenty for a week or two and earn a spot back.
The fact he plain and simply gave up the Don chase and let him come around 10m for the conversion is a sign he doesn’t want to be here anymore.
He is turning into a brat and we should be offloading him to the first team that wants him.

Actually Gutho bailed early ... then french ... tepai moeroa was the only merkin who chased the whole way, even ran past gutho

At the game it is not always easy to see that kind of stuff.

Yeah but Gutho was never going to catch him or push him to the edge, French could have easily done that.

French has been bog ordinary as a fullback when given the chance there for the last 2 seasons. We only started going well last year when he got injured and they moved Gutho back there.

He always seemed like the kind of bloke who would have a positive attitude and work hard to try and better himself.

He has really let himself and his team down with this apparent attitude change.
I was a fan of his before, and even through this season I was sure he would come back into form eventually. But having seen how he has played recently as well as listening to some of his quotes in interviews, I would be ok if he moved on.

Unfortunately I’m in the same boat.

Attitude is everything and someone smaller than average needs to have it in spades but for some reason he has lost it.

He is an exciting talent though so i hope he can light up the league at some point whether it is with us or not!

I agree, it was interesting though to hear him say he only has himself to blame if the eels don’t want him because his form is bad. Unfortunately his perceived attitude won’t help him fix that form anytime soon

After yesterday’s effort, and last weeks 19 run metres, why should any coach reward him with his preferred position ?

Our fullback last night ran 200+m and ran flat out into the line without any thought of self preservation.

If he wants to be a fullback, then he should go to Wenty, run 200m, score a bunch, TA a bunch and make his form demand selection. That’s the way it usually works anyway.
Agree x10000000000, on form he deserves to be dropped not rewarded with the fullback job.

French still has lightning fast excelleration. It is a crying shame that there isn't a place in the game for guys like him any more. You have to basically be an behemoth Islander.

I would change rules to get a place in the game for French, Sandow etc.

After Moses joined the side French played seven games at fullback and we won five of them. But after King came into the team French won all three games at fullback (and all three on the wing). And every idiot knows King was the reason we went so well in the back half of the year.

Gutherson only played four games at fullback after Moses arrived, but we did win all four.

It's not a reward, it's a job. It's about doing what's best for the team. Obviously playing French anywhere isn't necessarily good for our team in his current form.

But a job isn't a reward, except maybe a blow job.
