Huge wrap on Parramatta Eels' 17-year-old Bevan French

After Moses joined the side French played seven games at fullback and we won five of them. But after King came into the team French won all three games at fullback (and all three on the wing). And every idiot knows King was the reason we went so well in the back half of the year.

Gutherson only played four games at fullback after Moses arrived, but we did win all four.
Why does it feel like this year went so fast, yet that seems like so long ago?

26 rounds of super 9s?

interchange down to 6 may help?

I'd go to 11 men and go back to 5 metres (or something similar).
10 metres is stupid and is the root cause of all RL evil.

I don't think interchange reduction will make any difference. We need rule changes that are so radical that NRL coaches basically don't know what they are doing any more and have to focus their attention on working out how to play the game rather than spending all the time they do on how to manipulate little things.

The game was great when the 10 metres was initially brought in and the coaches had not work out wrestling and stuff like that. I would maybe change it every 10 years so they don't get the heads around it.

They tried that this year. It has resulted in a penaltyathon and more sinbins than Oscar the Grouch at a f**king Sesame St orgy. Are you enjoying that?

It's not a reward, it's a job. It's about doing what's best for the team. Obviously playing French anywhere isn't necessarily good for our team in his current form.

But a job isn't a reward, except maybe a blow job.
I’d say what is best for the team is ensuring the effort across the playing group is maintained, regardless of their ability. In French’s case, his effort and attitude stinks and he has limited ability so not only would I not give him the position that he seems to be sulking about, I’d also drop the merkin to Wenty.

Yes. When the media were blowing up at the start of the year I could tell that the coaches were behind that, driving it. They were terrified because they were losing control.
My opinion is that NRL coaches over the last 15 years have ruined the game. The game would be better off without coaches.
Anything that stirs them up and makes them panic must be good for the game.

They have just adapted to the rules. The rules punish teams that concede quick play-the-balls, so why wouldn't coaches do their utmost to slow the opposition down in defence?

And the reason the speed of the ruck is everything these days is because of the ten metre rule. If you don't want your defensive line backpedalling the length of the field you need to get off your line quickly. But if the tackle results in a quick play-the-ball then your entire team is offside. The defence is damned either way.

Do you not think the team would work this shit out if they were sans a coach?

That is basically what I am saying. The upshot is you have a shitty sporting contest decided in an area of the game nobody wants to know about. It has been labelled the dark arts for a reason. Coaches were so ashamed of it they basically denied they taught this stuff until recently.

Moving forward, I'd like to see BA tinker with the backline for the rest of the year without French in it, if possible. After that display last night, especially when he chose to back-off rather than use the only attribute he possesses regarding the intercept try shows he's a passenger we don't have room for.

Took forever for Marata to get a run. Thats worked out ok.
Took forever for Reed to get a run.
Thats worked out ok.
Took forever for Salmon to get a run.
Fingers crossed but didnt look out of place last night.
Maybe BA might think "when you're on a good thing." Etc.
Maybe Greg Alphabet will replace Bev?

Or the Winfield Cup.
I have a streamer/banner from the Winfield cup days. The type you might see with Isosceles triangles hanging down that would be strung up at a festival or fair, that was used for the season launch in Darling Harbour many moons ago. It has every team of that year on it and ironically, someone tried to rip off the Bunnies one before I nabbed it and that pennant is hanging on by a thread.

I'm sure it's no coincidence that the year we finished top four we had no debutantes while in the year we're struggling to avoid the spoon we've already had three.
