Yes he came off the bench or started at hooker for his last six or seven games for Brisbane. He was injured earlier that season and the Broncos went on a winning streak with Nikorima at halfback. However Bennett still selected Hunt at halfback once he returned from injury that season and for all other games in the previous seasons that Bennett coached there, so it was literally his last few games that he played Hooker for Brisbane and that could've also been to do with him leaving and the Broncos wanting to plan.

It certainly isn't the case that Bennett saw Hunt as specialist dummy half like your post implies. Bennett and Hunt have a good relationship and you might well see Hunt at the Dolphins but is potentially using the Dogs/Titans to get the release in the first instance. I certainly wouldn't put it passed Wayne Bennett to do it.
Bennett is a sly bugger for sure , and not the all good guy people might think of him ... 🤔

I get off a long flight and the Dragon's world has been turned upside down.
First - we shouldn't release Hunt this year - any new side will only pay 5 months of his salary-no benefit to us. Media speculation says he has been offered a massive 900K per season - well we are paying close to that so it's an irrelevant point.
Media says he is homesick - well if we release him put in a clause he cannot sign with a non Brisbane/GC team. He has a two year contract - insert a $200K transfer clause plus possible player exchange.
Time for our Mgt team to play hardball.
Finally - NO i repeat NO Kyle Flannigan or Luke Brooks and as always NO Morgan Harper.

BTW - how good is it that Emirates shows live NRL on their Entertainment (sport 24) offering. Who says NRL can't be a global game!

So, we have no rebuttal from Ben's side that he has asked for a release.

I think that fact is now not in dispute. What the question is how the Club navigates this. Having a halfback and Captain NOT wanting to be there , is not tenable for mine.

They can put out a release next week saying that all is kosher / misunderstanding / etc etc etc, I doubt that eases my concerns.

I'm not sure where we go from here, but I would be okay with the Club agreeing to a release. You dont wanna wear this badge ? Off you go.

Getting real sick of all these media pundits saying stuff like “Why keep a player around if he doesn’t want to be there?” as if clubs should just bend over for every player that ever asks for a release. Brandy said he can’t remember the last time a player who asked for a release stay at their club as if that reinforces the point. Well what about Sloan? Sullivan? Even Hass at the Broncos? What do they expect the Dragons to do? Let him walk and get nothing in return?

I am certain that the club made sacrifices to give Hunt that 2 year extension. In fact, we almost lost our future halfback in Sullivan over it for goodness sake. Why let those sacrifices be in vain? So I am glad Flanno and the club seem to be fighting back on this.

If he stays, great… but if he goes I am expecting a lot in return from whoever takes him. We might be in the minority because fans of other clubs are salivating at the thought of poaching Hunt but us Dragons supporters have a right to be frustrated at him.

If I was Ryan Webb, I would be seeking massive salary cap dispensation from the NRL, after an opposing administration or coach, bringing our club into disrepute!
Lets Bring in Luke Brooks, Connor Watson, Kyle Flannagan and Reece Robson, plus 3 Prop forwards from the Dogs, 3 backrowers from the Rorters, to start with!

All of these idiots are destroying their own game. Parasites kill their hosts.
This is so perceptive, they thrive from negativity and never admit when they were wrong.

The club was slammed for letting Matt Dufty go , but when he didn't last six months at the Bulldogs no-one admitted that maybe we were right or pilloried the Bulldogs for poor recruitment.

Everyone slammed us for letting McInnes go, but he has has only been solid at the Sharks and takes up 4 years of their salary cap for an older injury prone player.

The press slaughtered us for letting Josh Dugan go and not being willing to pay $1m per year for him. but gave the Sharks an easy time for paying $1m per year in a four year contract.

The Dragons get eyeballs and if there isn't a real story they make one up in order to create clickbait.
