Rocket Rod Reddy was a true legend of a player & did us a favour in not taking up the coaching role as it delivered us David Waite.
The player "Rocket" Rod Reddy was a true legend of the game and one of my favourite players as a kid.

The coach "Rocket" Rod Reddy was supposed to take over the St George side from Brian Smith in 1996. When St George refused the Super League offer sometime in 1995, the next step for this nefarious organisation, headed by Rupert Murdoch and his cur John Ribot, was to systematically destroy our great club by paying players ridiculous amounts of money to join rivals, mainly Cronulla, while Reddy sold his soul by taking over the reins at the Adelaide Rams- Cronulla already had the experienced John Lang at the helm. This led to St George having a decimated squad and no coach leading up to the 1996 season. The proverbial "Knight in Shining Armour", David Waite, answered the SOS to coach St George, and took over for the 1996 season. Court cases and more money meant that St George got back most of their players, except for the traitorous Gordon Tallis, who believed his principles meant that he should sit out the 1996 season rather than play for the club with which he had a legally binding contract. Indeed, Tallis has said that his St George team mates would ring him weekly to try and change his mind, but he refused, again believing he was being true to his principles by not playing for St George. I wonder how the 1996 grand final would have panned out had Tallis donned the St George jersey? We will never know.

So, back to your statements.

I agree that Reddy was a true legend of the game as a player, but his actions in the Super League war cannot be ignored, and ultimately, his status as a traitor is well-earned. Has he ever stated publicly what he now thinks of what he did, either saying it was wrong or he still believes that he did the right thing by his family at the expense of loyalty for the club he once proudly served? I've never heard it, but I would be interested to know if he did. At least Tallis is on record as saying he still believes what he did was correct.

His actions certainly delivered us David Waite, but this was hardly planned. He betrayed St George, and this meant we got Waite. In no way can this be credited to Reddy, nor is it any source of redemption for his traitorous act.

These are my opinions. You are welcome to have a different one.

Well I wasn’t fully across that scenario as you have stated. I loved Rod as a player when I was a kid but I may have to change my name to Poppa or Sticks. Stay tuned!
Im off to Europe for a few weeks today and will try and follow the exploits of Mr Hunt from afar. Or maybe not cause he can go wherever he wants as too much water under the bridge to repair this mess.
Ciao

Good post, I’m not saying Reddy should be credited for Waite. What I’m saying , as a player there were not to many better , loved him and this cannot be forgotten As a coach Reddy was probably on par with Craig Young, I think that explains my thoughts. On the decision to go to Rams. The money was ridiculous & as a individual he would be a fool not to take it, as there is no loyalty in league & saints did get rid of him, resulting in Rocket finishing off his career at the Steelers. PS Reddy is not sucking the place dry, like Craig Young is. Everything thing he touches turns to shit! . Anyway I’m on the Amalfi coast, enjoying life👍👍

I hope karma strikes Hunt & wherever he goes next, they ultimately play him as hooker cause the new coach says it’s best for the team.
Can you imagine a future coach reading his resume?

-Played halfback in his junior years. Cemented the top grade half back spot towards the end of 2013 at the age of 23 because he was behind players like Scott Prince and Peter Wallace. I wonder if that may cause resentment to junior players who debut at an early age...
-Played in a successful Broncos team from 2014, making the grand final in 2015 but handed Jonathon Thurston the premiership after a simple dropped ball. I wonder if he's got over this...
-Often selected for Queensland and Australian teams, usually on the bench...
-Debuted for St George in 2018 as halfback. Combined well with Gareth Widdop, but the team didn't make the semi finals after Widdop left and hunt was half-back...
-Enjoyed a lot of success playing for Queensland and Australia as hooker from 2021, while his team struggles with him at halfback...
-Final comments: Ben has shown he is capable first grade halfback, but his lack of game management is a factor in Daly Cherry-Evans being the preferred Queensland halfback. This evidenced by Cherry-Evans kicking 26 field goals in 295 games compared to Bens one in 303 games. Based on his success at representative level as hooker, and lack of success at NRL level as halfback, Ben's best position is hooker.

I'm sure you are enjoying Italy, and I am super jealous. I was hoping to go there this year to relax and catch up with family. Oh well, maybe next year.

I understand where you're coming from regarding Reddy. He was my favourite player as a kid, and the money must've been too hard to refuse at the time. My main beef with him are his actions-I wasn't a kid at the time of the superleague war. However, after the reconciliation, has he tried to make amends and come back to the fold?

Great points about not sucking the club dry, unlike some other team mates from his era.

I believe a contract is a contract and he owes the club. Hunt’s form was ordinary in the first couple of years when signed under Mcgregor. He only started playing well in the last 2 years and now he doesn’t want to stick around? He & his chum Griffin are part responsible for these results as are all the players in the team. However if the club decides to release him to another team, I would like to ask how sizeable the transfer fee would be? If the Bulldogs paid Brisbane $500,000 to transfer 18y/0 Karl Oloapu (unproven in 1st grade)how much would an establishment representative NRL player of the calibre of Ben Hunt cost ? $$$$$$

- He also has a bizarre personality disorder that requires him to be in the company of at least 2 Queenslanders at all times. This leads to some less-than-ideal outcomes for a club the club forced to satisfy this need, including signing a useless coach like Anthony Griffin and nuffy players like McCullough, McGuire and Mbye

Just wondering if this is a bomb thrown by Hunt to finally wake this halfwit of a board,
who are the main culprits in the demise of of a once great club.
This may well be a blow torch aimed at the inept so called management of the whole
coaching saga, no show at his 300 and leaving it to the players to front the media.

There is more to this story.

No Lodge under any circumstances.
Yes to Walker as a 6, give Bud the 7
I think I'd have to give it away if we signed Lodge.

There was arguably grey area in the JDB case and Packer faced justice and served his punishment (although was still reason enough for me to cancel my membership).

Lodge however, terrorised a child - likely leaving him with psychological issues long into adulthood. Then he received the deal of a lifetime to run away back to Australia rather than face real consequences.

The man is scum. If having a BBQ was a sign of a poor culture then even contemplating the signing of this gutless prick is the absolute pits.

Great too see others thinking the Same.
We need player a swap on the biggest order, along with a transfer fee, I also believe B Hunts form will drop significantly if he leaves the Dragons, Ok the fisrt few games at the new club will be nice, nice, but once the Heavy losses begin to roll in, his new team mates will be looking at him to produce, the pressure will mount and the slide will begin.
I certainly will be scrutinising every scew up he makes!

His next team won't give him the ball all the time like we do. They have proper attacking systems.

I just have this strange feeling Hunt is off to the Roosters for the remainder of this year and then to a qld club in 2024. Roosters need a half right now, they are still in the finals race, his family gets time to move state, and we end up with either Sam Walker or even Luke Brooks!
