I just have this strange feeling Hunt is off to the Roosters for the remainder of this year and then to a qld club in 2024. Roosters need a half right now, they are still in the finals race, his family gets time to move state, and we end up with either Sam Walker or even Luke Brooks!

I very much doubt my club is after Hunt. Virtually no cap room to start with. Also Sandon Smith will fill in at half till Walker is back from injury in about 2-3 weeks. Don't believe the News Ltd crap about him leaving.

Also I very much doubt your club would be willing to let Hunt leave to go to another Sydney club anyways, be it my club or any other Sydney based club.

Hoops loves telling the world what a shambles Saints are when there is a club that hired the most popular rookie coach in the world on a 5 year big dollar contract with quite a few panthers players to follow and future Origin hooker as well as trying to snag players from Saints first Sulli and now Hunt. This team is coming 2nd last mind you. Isn't it a results business? The other Rookie coach from Penrith is at Warriors who are top 8 and on the way to finals. What an absolute screw up by this basket case of a club. They clearly got the wrong rookie and the Warriors made the better choice from a GM that is not named Phil Gould.

Saints sacked a non-performing coach after giving him a chance to win some games in 2023, have a player wanting to leave after they have given him the world for 2.5 years and because of these 2 clowns the whole club is to blame. Mind you media keep telling us Hunt is the best player so you would do whatever you can to keep him (which they have) and now they are a basket case for doing so.

So Saints have now signed a premiership winning coach as per what every media person has advised they are a basket case. They tried to do a Dogs and sign the best rookie available and missed out to a team that he was part of for 10+ years and had a deal to take over. How can you compete with that?

Saints are on the up from what I can see. Not the clubs fault one player wants no part of it because he has been promised the world by other clubs by the looks of things. As if Dogs or Titans will win a comp in 2 years. But then again he thinks Saints had a chance with Griffin.

Buzz said if there were no approaches from other clubs he would not be acting this way. So apparently that is the Dragons boards fault that Gould and Ciraldo where knocking on his door and Sulli's the past 6 months. Looks like a team that has form for cheating is respecting the NRL and doing this anti-tampering but hey, Saints are the problem not them. Hunt's behaviour is clearly due to a contract in waiting from an NRL club. Anti-tampering at it's best. Bring back David Gallop. He was the best NRL CEO. The rest that followed have really dropped the ball on teams cheating the cap or anti-tampering.

Fantastic post that captures what many of us are thinking.

Your last few sentences are very true. Who would've thought that when Gallop was the NRL CEO that in a few short years, we would be looking back and say that he was the best CEO?

It's the second time that the Bulldogs have tried to sign a Panthers assistant coach (Barrett was their attacking coach in 2019/2020), along with recruitment of a handful of credentialed Panthers + credentialed players from other clubs. The results STILL are not coming. They are battling with us & the Tigers for the wooden spoon. But the media narrative seems to be that Ben Hunt could be the missing link to them becoming a genuine premiership threat?

At best, in the event they did snag Hunt, they might sneak into 7th or 8th spot next year (might).

I can see the headline:

Ben Hunt leads the the Dogs of War into the Semi Finals.

Journalist: hoops-the-wit.
First line: Since leaving the basket case of a club St George Illawarra,<insert usual crap, then rinse and repeat. Make sure add "basket case" at least once a paragraph>.

Nick Politis has told both buzz-the-alco and Anasta that there is no interest in Hunt, and what you say makes perfect sense, provided:
-Walker is in the roosters future plans
-If he isn't, then Smith is in the future plans

With Lodge gone and a reported clean-up happening, then the roosters may have more in their money in their cap/sombrero. Combine this with the potential that neither Walker or Smith are in the club's future plans (Robinson & Politis have form in getting rid of young players who they don't think will cut it), then Hunt becomes a more appealing prospect in the short-term. If there's one thing we've all seen over the past 20 years, Nick Politis generally gets what he wants.

Smith is still raw. He has potential.

As to Walker, Robinson is doing to him what he did to two other players you might have heard of at similar stages in their respective careers - Latrell Mitchell and Joseph Manu. Both had deficiencies in their games and both got sent back down to work on those before being recalled to first grade. In fact Robinson stuck to his guns with Manu and went into a preliminary final with Ryan Matterson playing in the centres rather than recall Manu. Walker's case is closer to their's than Flanagan's by a long shot (or Hastings for that matter). But I digress....

I would certainly take Sam Walker , the young fella knows how to create tries out of nothing , he only requires a speedy back or a block busting forward to finish the movement .

Cannot understand why Robinson gave him the flick and now his teams attack is sputtering without the live wire Walker who looks to attack for the full 80 minutes.

Anyway that the rorters problem to sort out , alas we have enough of our own .

Fair enough. I didn't realise that about Latrell and Joey. As much as I hate to say it, the bloody roosters have been a well-run organisation for many years.

So is it Robinson that makes the calls between persevering with a young player or moving them on?

The Club had pandered to Hunt for too long. Resigning Griffin. Allowing Griffin to treat the young guys like shit and keeping the focus on Hunt in game plans (if that’s what you can call them) !
If Hunt wanted to win a comp why did he extend his contract with StG ?
The public way all this crap has played out since Saturday suggests to me SF and the club will have a difficult time turning him around. And it would leave a stench going forward if he did stay.
Clearly some clubs have been breaking NRL rules but will escape sanctions. Oh for David Gallopp.
The manner Hunt has played this . Being in origin camp and not facing team mates suggests he is somewhat of a low character.
I do wonder how the incompetent Haran and his marvellous recruitment has contributed to the situation.

NRL, ‘*unt’ & anti-tampering rules

Will they enforce this NRL guide?
I reckon they know it’s game wide.
If they catch Uncle Nick
Or Gus the big Prick
Their jobs will be pretty-well fried.

To be seen to be doing something
Hunt’s manager they did give a ring.
“To make you aware,
Amongst all this fanfare,
We hope no anti Tampering?”

What a piss-weak ‘beat’ on the drum.
I’ll show them how it is done.
I will never quit,
Nor take any shit.
I warned ya! I’m calling my Mum.
