Couldn't help myself: I've never believed that Hunt is that good; certainly not a 'superstar'.

33 people have played at halfback in the comp so far this year.

Hunt is 1st for tries (just) and offloads. He is third for try assists and tackle busts (he's clever and physically strong for his size).

In every other stat he's basically around the bottom of the top quartile (ie; good but not great).

He's 3rd, 4th and 5th, respectively, for missed tackles, errors and penalties.

He doesn't kick goals - 21 of the other 32 halfbacks have done - this year.

He doesn't kick field goals - 13 of the other 32 halfbacks have done - this year.

Make of it what you will.

IMO - he is not a 'great' player at all and never has been. He's simply a very good, opportunistic, individual attacking player and quite a poor defender.

Really, no great loss IMO.

Gees, he's done well out of us though.

NRL, ‘*unt’ & anti-tampering rules

Will they enforce this NRL guide?
I reckon they know it’s game wide.
If they catch Uncle Nick
Or Gus the big Prick
Their jobs will be pretty-well fried.

To be seen to be doing something
Hunt’s manager they did give a ring.
“To make you aware,
Amongst all this fanfare,
We hope no anti Tampering?”

What a piss-weak ‘beat’ on the drum.
I’ll show them how it is done.
I will never quit,
Nor take any shit.
I warned ya! I’m calling my Mum.
In limerick form:
There was a young halfback named Hunt
Who said to his CEO, most blunt
My manager says go
You can much more doe
Yes, I'm really that much of a can't finish the rest of that, sorry

Sounds like he'd make a pretty good 5/8

Excellent summation
He is simply an individual that maximises opportunities for himself in attack and is bog average otherwise.
Not a team player, never was, never will be.

Good read here by the always sharp Mike Meahall Wood

Both roar articles well researched and very well-articulated.
They sum up the overall views on this, and many other threads.
Though perhaps not Amone as a walk-in 5/8 starter - Can't be perfect!

Yep but he is our best player by a fair way and who can we get to replace him in the short term is the issue for us

I just see it as untenable now after his statements… supporters now all think he is a cock, and not someone who should be a captain of our club. Pull the Band-Aid off and get some money and/or player swap and let’s start the rebuild.

Fair enough. I didn't realise that about Latrell and Joey. As much as I hate to say it, the bloody roosters have been a well-run organisation for many years.

So is it Robinson that makes the calls between persevering with a young player or moving them on?

He get a sizeable say, but does not always get what he wants. For example when James Maloney came off contract during the 2015 season, Robinson wanted to keep him but then Recruitment Manager Peter O'Sullivan wanted to let him go and promote Jackson Hastings to the first grade line-up full time as a starter in his place. Ultimately the decision was made higher up to go with O'Sullivan. As far as I'm aware he get a big input but is not the final arbiter.

I would prefer to say "a contract is a contract" however, there not worth the paper they a written on. If a player can get more cabbage or is unhappy and all parties are happy, go for your life. It can be done, re Kerr.

As the Hunt affair, driven by Hunt, his manager and other teams plus the media salivating at the mouth, it's time the Dragons take an unusual stand.

Hunt only has a few years before he hangs the boots up. If the club wants to get nasty, receive the compensation and Ben doesn't play for two years and see how that goes for him.

Short term pain, stand him down until an investigation is complete, and compensation is given to the club and agree to the release.

It's truly bottom of the barrel stuff, can't see him playing again with the Red V so, get it sorted out as quickly as possible.

He handles the ball more than most other 7's so his stats are probably worse as percentages
