A SKEG - that term brought back memories of going to Jannali Boys High - catching the train from Sutho to Cronulla!!!

Love it!
Back in the day.
When the game was played by real men.
If a team found themselves in the position we found ourselves in last Sunday- needing another team to win for them, the promise of a keg was made if they could get up for a win.

You'd know a few of those stories Quigs?

I'll tell youse a funny but true bush league story seeing as though we are all getting over our Mad Monday antics.

This one does not include offering an opposition team a keg to win a game but dangling a keg in front of your team mates under certain conditions.

Many decades ago I was the Captain Coach of the Narooma Ressies. We had to beat Bega at home in the last round to make the semis. I was on a very small bonus (very small) if we made the semis.

It was back in the dinosaur days and biff was encouraged. (Twas a great time in the code, even in the bush). I told my squad at training on the Tuesday and Thursday that I would put on a keg if we won but there was a condition.

It was a simple condition really. It was, any bloke that did not cop a caution during the game could not attend the drinkies. We hated Bega.

Well blow me down we flogged Bega, absolutely bashed them that game. I remember that I was not in a position to be cautioned in that game until the fifth caution handed out by the ref. Four blokes got in before me very early in the softening up period.

I even remember having heated words with their non playing coach who was near the sideline.

It was one on the most funfilled games I played in

It used to be such a great game rugby league
Bush league stories.... memories that live forever if you happened to be involved or lived through them.

We had road trips from Narooma to Eden or up to the mountains, Jindabyne, Cooma and Bombala and Delegate.

The trip home would involved a caravan of supporters cars and the team bus. Sometimes 15 or so cars. We'd stop off at every pub on the trip home. Everyone on the piss. (even most of the drivers). You'd often cross paths with clubs doing the reverse trip and it was like long lost reunions.

Fantastic memories and laughs. I bump into blokes from 40 years back and we still bust our guts laughing over the good old times.

Just found this... it is a picture showing the home crowd the day we played that Bega Game back in 1979. Narooma Bowls club in the foreground

Some Singo type tycoon needs to give Quigs and his Biff Era site a grant to continue the above content. Classic

Didn’t get much game time but he did this one tackle defending the tryline and just chopped the shit out Aloiai. Stopped him in his tracks. Was great.

Can’t wait till he’s a Shark

How many times was he in position to be first receiver or get a pass and whoever would bypass him , especially if Munster or Paps was around , both of whom were off their game . Don't know what position he was supposed to be playing but it looked a bit disjointed .
I'm sure he's looking forward to getting here and being able to dictate the play .

Agree with this…. too good a player to be playing off the bench. Played his best footy when he was a regular starter when Munster and Pappy were out and he had a defined role. Will be the main go to player at the Sharks. Been a while since I’ve looked forward to a season as much as next year.

Hynes came on as a middle link player. Munster and Pap were very poor. Pap very tentative in contact. Support play almost non existent.
