Hynes Insight

Anyone watch him as a halfback last night? Still looks like a 1 or a 6 to me but wondered if there'll be an attempt to turn him into a 7 next season.. can get away with having Munster outside of him and Grant inside of him directing traffic, but would be a challenge as a dominant half with a squad looking to him to run things...

Interested in seeing Fitz' plan come together, whatever that is, but I've got a weird feeling that a Hynes/Moylan combo might be his preference over a Trindall/Hynes..

He has a very natural swerve.
He takes the ball and makes it look easy to get wide or outside his opposite and link with runners.
Good speed of the mark. Good hands. Great balance all contribute.

However he also has the luxury of those plays being run again and again at training and everybody being on the same page.
The luxury of perfectly run block plays to make defenders uncomfortable.
High expectations to get it right or feel the wrath of a coach or team leaders.

We have NONE of that.
We don't have a coach.
No consequence if balls bounce off heads.
No training obviously.
No leaders driving high performance and expectations.
Sideways running is accepted and encouraged.

Over to you Fitz.

He had a limited kicking game last night as well, not sure if I want him having to be the first string kicker, playing Moylan he would be.
That leaves Trindall and Metcalf.
Trindall has good kicking game, Metcalfe's looked ok.
Playing with those halves I think you would see Hynes controlling the play

Very small data to be getting our panties in a twist about Hynes at 7. He has been signed to be a key playmaker and will be absolutely fine.
Very small.

Kennedy played 17 games at fullback last year and most people, including myself had written him off. Now look at him. Most people are comfortable he's our long term fullback.

Maybe he's more of a 6 or maybe there's not much difference what number they wear depending on how the team will play akin to how a lock and prop aren't overly much different depending how the team will play.

I thought Hynes was pretty good last night. Did what was expected of him. When Munster decided to have a dig he looked even better.

I love the fact that wherever the ball is or no matter where the storm make a break on the field, Nicho is right there backing up or wanting the ball back for the next play or to finish off the break Or score the try. He is a gun!

Probably Nichos’ quietest game for quite a while but he’s been red hot all year. Wouldn’t go slitting wrists on that performance. Fitz will get him and WK humming next year.

Mickelson ennis said last night storm were a better side when Nicho was the 1.

Is Pappy feeling some competition.

Anyone see nicho make a break late in the game last night and he hurt an ankle and Pappenhauzen grabbed him by the back of his shirt and pulled him to his feet to play the ball.
Nicho could hardly put his foot on it.

The opportunity to score mightve been there but Paps wouldn't have yanked Cam up. Or Munster.

I am here to make an admission, I have never seen Hynes play (well, not noticed him), I just can’t be arsed watching other games these days.

He has huge wraps on him…here, there & everywhere, out of the blue it would seem.

I get the feeling I’ll be screaming at the TV, “Get the merkin”, but I hope I’m wrong.

Maybe he will be kind to his new club…

He is fuggen good Cardy, you will be pleasantly surprised. He is a big unit too. Probably the form player in the comp this year excluding Turbo.

Hynes kicked all night for them in general play. He needs some practice but they weren't terrible.

What is the preferred halves partnering for next year?
Hynes with:
Trindall
Metcalf
Moylan

I see some good things happening with both Trindall and Metcalf. If something was to happen to Kennedy *touch wood, I'd have no hesitation in throwing Hynes to FB and these two as a combo.
I understand the Moylan signing, it gives the spine a senior player, and some grounding for a year, but I do not think he should be a starter.
Trindall seems to be finding his place in 1sts as a HB, and his kicking game is coming along.
Metcalf has something else though. His energy for the game is infectious. I get the feeling he will be an excitement machine.
I'm torn between the two of them. It's gunna be an interesting time in pre season.

I’m in the Hynes 6, Trindall 7 camp. Moyza and Metcalf mixing it up for the 1 bench spot. Metcalf to get a lot of opportunity though, I think I’d get him to rip and tear in the jets for a few weeks. Pressure off, play a lot of footy game time….then when Moyza goes down for his first 6 week injury stint on the sidelines in round 4 or 5, Metcalf comes into the side.
