I find this funny...

West Indies not in this cup, so their first international commitment they organise after the cup at home is

3 x ODI vs Mighty England (then 5 xt20s vs same nation)

I had a chuckle at this cause cause the schedule was organised a few weeks ago, when England were one of the sides in serious contention of winning it, making the final as worst case scenario.

West Indies board probably thought at the time, we will show the world that we deserved to be at the world cup, by playing the best and beating them.

Am I right, or just totally bored ?

It makes sense when you consider that England may have arranged to rest a few of their players for that specific tour. Well now at least that or they'll drop quite a few and let this tour feature the prospective team.

So either way the WI would end up playing England lite and would kick-start their own preparation for their next tournament appearance (Whenever that will be...the current WI team are well and truly separated from the heroics of their 80s/90s predecessors).

it's really quite sad - through that 70s-80s especially period, it just seemed like they could dominate forever - and even prior to that they had a conveyor belt of world class and all time greats - but now, omg, disarray

Good guys against the bad guys tonight... no Williamson, no Ferguson and likely no Chapman (although Neesham is better anyway) - Southee probably getting his first game, unless they play an extra spinner

Afghanistan would be the second non-test nation to make a World Cup semi after Kenya in 2003. Kenya were the benefactors of walkovers, South Africa not knowing how revises totals worked & having Big Steve Tikolo as captain.
Kenya got lucky they beat who they did in the group stage.

Back in 2003 there were 3 stages - Group Stage, Super Six, Semis & Final.

The 2 other teams that progressed in Kenya's group were Sri Lanka & NZ - They beat Sri Lanka and NZ as you say forfeited. Which meant Kenya had maximum points heading into the super six stage like Australia and only had to beat Zimbabwe in the super six to get to the semis.

England the cowards forfeited against Zimbabwe which cost them a super six spot.

Ironically they should have beat us in Port Elizabeth there final match to get in there but choked in the match.
Andy Bichel got 7/20 that day but they had us on toast at 8/135 chasing 205.

Bichel & Bevan put on 70 in the final 12 overs to win

Isn't the T20 world cup in the Caribbean & USA next year. Maybe England want some practice on there wickets

I know its a different format.

But the Windies have a great record against England.

The poms haven't beaten them in a test series over there since 2004.

Considering how shit the Windies have been for 25 years how on earth England have gone 20 years and 4 tours not winning a test series over there is beyond me.

Two bitter rivals in the Kiwis v South Africa tonight. Crucial game for the Kiwis

Lets hope its as good as this one 8 years ago.

When all of Australia was riding the Kiwis home like no tomorrow as we knew the kiwis were going to be bazboozled in the final by big brother.

The way things panned out really helped them. NZ advanced because SA didn’t know how the revised totals worked and blocked the last ball when they were level with the par score not ahead. Mean Kenya carried the full win points forward.

Zimbabwe advancing game then an easy win in the super 6, meaning they just had to win one more game which they did against Sri Lanka.

Basically they needed many things to break their way which all did perfectly.

There was some quality cricket in that world cup.

South Africa bowing out in B2B ODI world cups over a Tie is classic stuff.

The shattered face of Shaun Pollock in the sheds after the rain come down thinking wtf have we done.

03 a great tournament for mine. First one I watched the majority of (Only caught the back end of 99. Started watching cricket intently during that india/pak/aus ODI tri-series that summer).

Waqar bowling 2 beamers at Symonds. And he replies with the knock that announced himself on the international stage. Bichel's 7/20 and partnership with Bevan against England. Brett Lee's hattrick. And Ponting/Martyn tearing apart India in the final. All special moments I won't forget.

If SA win they stay in second. If NZ win they will have to win big to move into second.

If NZ lose and Australia beat the poms we will move into third.

Yes, if. I think they've clocked off but we aren't good enough to assume a win over them.
Yeah i agree this Aussie team still has a softness about them.

Unlike the champions of 03 & 07 who were unstoppable.

Even 2015 we were a pretty dominant outfit a poor hour at Eden Park with a batting collaspe but other then that we were pretty flawless everywhere in that tournament.

Compared to this team too many holes still to assume we will wipe the floor of England.

Punter & Marto obliterating India in the final as well. Struggle to think of a better performance in a final than Punter that day.

Also remember Chaminda Vaas taking a hat trick against Bangladesh with the first 3 balls of the game. Took 4/5 in the first over.

In 2003 I remember my hero Gilly getting runout for 99 against Sri Lanka.

I think i was crying for the rest of the innings after that i was shattered.
