When I first started reading this thread, my opinion was that we should save Mateo for next year and keep the team as it is. I`ve changed my mind. I agree with Eelementary that Mateo is over-rated - there`s no question about that - based on his earlier performances this year. He is very erratic and he does overplay his hand terribly. But the more I read this thread, the more I am reminded that, at his best, he is brilliant. And a couple of people have pointed out that his style would probably suit the team at present. Imagine Hayne running off some of his off-loads! Or Mortimer.
I also agree with Eelementary about Lowrie. He is vastly under-rated. His level of commitment is without question. His dedication and his improvement over the last month in particular is also without question. His mistake rate has dropped to almost nil. However, I think Mateo should be eased back in. And if that happens, then there are only two players that could possibly be dropped - Wright or Lowrie. Wright definitely won`t be here next year, and Lowrie might not be. Tough decision? I`d drop Wright.

I agree completely.

On potential and when playing in form, Mateo is a brilliant player. But he hasn't played well in quite some time.

Lowrie is hated and under-rated simply because he possesses no great skills other than to tackle and run. Sad, really, when you consider he's improved a lot and become a solid First Grader but people are too petty to see it.

That highlighted comment totally blows my mind.

Not really - it means Parramatta fans rate him higher than he should be. Ask a non-Eels fans what they think of him (preferably a non-biased fan) and they might not rate him as highly.

It doesn't mean he's a bad player.

Just had a look at stats between Mateo and Lowrie and put it this way Mateo did just about the same in 9 games that Lowrie has done in 19 so put 2 and 2 together and you have a solution to all issues. Oh and Mateo was pulling those stats when we were garbage so over and out!!!!

Not really...As you and the other pro-Mateo and anti-Lowrie campaigners rightly point out Mateo's potential is limitless and his skills far superior to Lowrie's - I would expect nothing less than for Mateo to do that.

And what exactly is it he did in 9 games, anyway?

Honestly Mateo should came straight back in on the bench ATM, Smith should be the unlucky one to go. Give Mateo a couple of weeks from the bench and then as we make a march towards the GF DA will let him rip

Because you decide to make 7 different posts in a row. Could easily combine them couldnt you?

Not really - I was addressing several different people.

I know your screen name indicates you have one eye but you didn't need to be that obvious about it.

lowrie would be alright if he was on minimum wage, we had to "lure" him from newcastle. so his money is better of spent elsewhere

That`s because you neglected to highlight the rest of the sentence. I mean this year. Sure, at his peak he`s unreal. Maybe in the same ball-park as Hayne in terms of skill. But based on his form earlier this year, I just think that we are over-rating him.

My problem with Lowrie is his passing. He can't pass for sh*t. Unless he's going to be used as a prop which i doubt he can play as, i see no reason of keeping him.

Lowrie really puzzles me, because every now and then he does a clever pass or brilliant off-load and I think, 'why can`t you do that all the time?'
