If not Madge, then who?

My mistake. $2m a year wouldn't be enough to get Ciraldo here.
Why am I suggesting we pay big money to get a coach who has a great reputation for developing players and the ability to attract quality players. ....Gee..don't know. Can't think of a single reason.

We shouldn't overpay him. He should be coming here for more than money.

We have no idea what he will be like as well. Will he attract players ? Will he develop players ? Madge was a premiership winning coach who turned Souths around.

I have no problems with getting him. I'd like us to actually get a win in the media. It's still a risky signing and he is a rookie coach.

$2m was an exaggeration due to having a few beers watching yet another appalling effort by our so called first grade side.I was tired and emotional.
That aside it doesn't change my belief we have to pay what it takes to get who we want.
We desperately need some news to lift the spirits of players and fans.
If those in charge of these matters stuff it up we are in for another decade of agony.

I hope we have a back up plan to Ciraldo..It’s like the 1m offer to Mitchell isn’t it.. PLEASE we NEED you..And there would be so many clauses in there it’d make Ciraldo’s head spin..He isn’t coming to WT. He’d be terrified of the idea. Even he has no idea if he can head coach never mind at WT..

Apparently one of the back up plans Pascoe mentioned was the Walker brothers.
Good to know we are in such safe hands.

I think we have the players to get much better results than we are currently getting. The coach needs to be the driver of that. Noddy is the first coach in 10 years to drop Brooks despite us all knowing Brooks has been shit for most of that time. That says a lot about the lack of knowledge, awareness and courage of all the WT coaches during that time.

We’ve seen these players perform before and recently. It’s the same players. The coach just needs to get inside their heads, so they play their game, with a wining plan and attitude, and a captain to keep them on track. It happens in all sports and it can happen here.
I know of one coach that got inside luke brooks head....

Ciraldo is already on $400k a year (reportedly), the Dogs are also looking at him?
How much do we give an inexperienced coach to come here?
If it's true he is asking for a 5 year deal, are we going to have to wait that long for success?
This is going to be a shit fight for who ever gets the gig, if they don't target the best players available?
400k for an assistant coach? - gees you can be an assistant coach for a long time if that salary is correct -why become a head coach and be sacked after a few years as if that happens your coaching career is virtually over.

Really? Nathan Brown and Trent Barrett beg to differ.

You then go and become an assistant coach.
Missed the point completely - if he's on 400k a year that means he is paid more than 99% of what the average person is - sure he could earn much more as a head coach but if not successful and is sacked then what.

Clubs signing coaches who were unsuccessful at other clubs are asking for trouble as more than likely they were unsuccessful for a reason.

Barrett for an example was the bees knees as an assistant coach at Penrith and credited for their attack but rather unsuccessful at his two attempts as head coach at Manly (2nd and 3rd years) and the Bulldogs (whole coaching term).

Desperate teams signed them though - can you seem them getting another head coach role in the future?
Nathan Brown:
- Failed at Dragons
- Coached in the ESL (Huddersfield and Wigan)
- Failed at the Knights
- Failed at the Warriors

Or how about Matthew Elliott:
- Failed at the Raiders
- Failed at the Panthers
- Failed at the Warriors

Looks like the trend is three failures - so I could see Trent Barrett getting another try. He definitely shouldn't, but it wouldn't surprise me. Though Stephen Kearney is due before him after his awful stints in Parramatta and the Warriors.

No I didn't miss the point but you clearly don't get it. You become a head coach, you get sacked and then you become an assistant coach again.

It's not a big issue.

Plus you can also get sacked as an assistant coach.

There is basically no downside.

Then stay as an assistant especially when on 400k a year

I don’t disagree with you, but the trouble is imo, there are probably only 4 coaches who have the power to clean out players from there club and for a club like us, who do we replace them with?
There are players out there that will help you get to where you want to be longer term, but won’t win now.

The question is; do you want to lock yourself into years of pain but with the hope it improves later on (only play with guys who represent what you want in the jersey) or are you happy to buy people’s discards in the hope that you strike gold?

Next year you have Api and Papali’i who are good players; it is the first time for a long time that the WTs have got players their current team wanted to keep. Build around them with the 10ish players who represent what the WTs are and then replace the rest.

Let's slow this down a little. Is 800k more than 400k ?

On top of that you get a chance at being a head coach and you might like the challenge.

Do you have a logical counter argument. Your first counter argument was you could just stay as an assistant coach with the inference you would never get another change at an assistant coach. Logically you are incorrect.

Do you have a logical counter argument.

I don't understand why you are even debating this because you are clearly wrong.
