Have you seen the thread I created about revenue from sponsorship / corporate hospitality ans ticketing / membership?

Broncos and Cowboys are well ahead of the Sydney clubs in both areas. It's not unrealistic for a Perth team to generate more money from sponsorship and corporate hospitality than all of the Sydney clubs. They'll only be competing with the Eagles, Dockers and Force for the corporate dollar. A Perth based team will be great vehicle for local businessmen to get their products visible in Brisbane and Sydney.

The Swans generate more from sponsorship and corporate hospitality than all NRL clubs.

Sydney's clubs struggle because there's nine of them competing with one another for marketshare.

West Coast and Fremantle dont draw that much in sponsorship really - certainly not more than all Sydney clubs do now. They do draw a tonne in corporate hospitality, but they also get a cracking deal at Optus Stadium with excellent and plentiful corporate facilities. These wont be available at HBF Stadium.

Another reason why if Perth are to come in then part of the planning should include a couple of marquee games at Optus.

Rent and match costs will also be much higher at Optus. Dockers and Eagles pay 2.5-3m per year. Thats up there with the best.

There lies the problem.

HBF holds 20k very limited corporate space costs $125k to rent out. It is going to take some deep pockets when you also add the travel costs.

It’s why the nrl should be negotiating with the WA govt, guarantee the license if they build the club and nrlwa a new hq/cofe and commit to a newwest stand at hbf park. WA govt can afford to be chucking $100mill plus in if they want an nrl club. Get the stadium up to 25k ish and new corporate west stand and we are set facilities wise.

eagles are generating around $25-27mill from all sponsorship, advertising and corporate game day sales.

I’d predict an nrl club needs to be around $8-10mill in that space.

revenue target is $30-35mill a year

$17-18mill grant
$8-10mill corporate sales
$5-6mill fanbase revenue

Lack of corporate facilities will hold the club back big time

it’s on par with a suburban ground for corporate facilities

tell me you never been to hbf park without telling me you’ve never been to hbf park!

current boxes are 16 suites in west stand, seperate 5 suite west stand suite box, 5 suite north stand suite box, around 40 open air boxes with corporate space under the east stand.

but yes a new corporate west stand is needed.

For those who’ve never been the yellow circles highlight current corporate box areas. you can see how a new corporate west stand similar to commbank facilities on the scale of the east stand would really take the stadium to the next level. They could leave the lower bowl for memberships, terrace then Build the corporate stand behind. That would add 5k or so to capacity And an extra 20 plus boxes.

Having spent over $150mill so far on hbf park it’s incredibly unlikley we’ll see a new stadium at Burswood, unfortunately. What I’d like to see over next decade or so in terms of priorities would be:

1. new corporate west stand
2. roof over south stand
3. Extend shed terracing and new cantilever roof over north end

and a pirate ship in the north west corner would be nice :)

the pluses of hbf park are:
easy to get to from around city
reasonable free parking around the stadium
good train links, east perth station just 5mins from stadium gates
Stands very close to pitch creating a very interment and loud atmosphere
not oversized so a 15k crowd still feels and looks good
15min walk from city station/northbridge where all the bars and restaurants are
10min walk from pubs and restaurants on Beaufort street
5min walk to Brisbane pub

itll never be commbank but could be the best rectangular redeveloped stadium in the country.

So that makes the capacity for the General public way under 20k

Also is anyway going to use open air box in winter or in the wet?

The Eagles are also highly popular and charging ridiculous amounts for access to the club because of it. Fremantle arent even in the same ballpark.

Fremantle generate 5-6m a year in actual sponsorship. I dont think an NRL team in Perth is going to be more popular than the Dockers, and they wont have the corporate, dining or signage facilities that the Dockers draw on at Optus.

Id expect sponsorship and corporates to come in around 5-6m, and membership/gate revenues to be about 3m unless they are successful early.

The NRL club will be in a competitive market for its size and popularity - the Wildcats (NBL) and Glory (ALM) are all reasonably popular, Scorchers are too. The Force do ok without being huge. The only real advantage the NRL club will have is a wider television audience.
