Meninga by a country mile. Capt'd his country 23 times!!

Johns was probably the better player, Mal was by far the better man.

The drugs he used were not performance enhancing drugs. They were recreational drugs. They helped him as much as a coffee helps you play footy. If anything they made him worse.

The drugs he used have no relevance to him as a football player.

.

Arguable, he has stated on numerous occasions that the drugs helped him relax between games and switch off meaning he was fresher come game day. It might not have made him stronger or run faster but there is a reasonable argument they did help him psychologically play the game and cope with the pressure, thus enhancing his performances. Coffe isn't banned, E is!

I'll edit this out as it's irrelevant.

Anyway, that's the way I feel on the matter.

Carry on.

Some of the blokes who are currently immortals had their own issues.

Tellme why there is only going to be one new one? Why not more?

Immortal status shouldn't be about who is the better man.

They have Australian of the year awards and MBEs for that.

This is about footy players. Nothing more, nothing less.

FFS you geniuss are making it sounds like he used steroids or something. The drugs he used had no more effect on his footy than coffee would.

As he didn't use performance enhancing drugs, it should not and will not be taken into consideration.

Andrew Johns will be the next immortal.

The fact of the matter is anyone who thinks Johns deserves the honor 5 years after retiring and Meninga doesn't is either a NSW androtop or just a flat out idiot.

Mal Meninga. Great player. One of the legends. Not an immortal ahead of Joey.

The Raiders were over the cap, now he's coaching a team I could f**king coach to origin series wins.

Great player, but he ain't deserving of the status more than Joey.

Johns' two premierships with Newcastle are more significant than Meningas premierships at Canberra.

Also Johns may not have had as much quantity at Origin level but he singehanedly won multiple series for his state.

Lockyer should be the next immortal after Johns. Then you can give it to Meninga.

Johns
Lockyer
Meninga

That should be the order over the next few years. So before anyone says Im biased against cane toads, IMO 2 of the next 3 immortals should be Queenslanders. Just the next one has to be the greatest of all time.

If Lockyer was in the running, which rightfully he isn't because he's only just retired, even he deserves it more then Johns.

Lockyer achieved everything Johns did and he did it without getting on the Ex like some sort of twat.

Provan should be the pick way ahead of Meninga & Johns. His record as player and coach with the Dragons during their 11 straight premierships aside, he achieved what very few have: He coached Cronulla into a grand final.

Rothfield,.

They can't pick Johns, the bloke was (probably still is) a drug addict. Admitted to using drugs while playing the game. That alone brings the whole concept into disrepute if he's named.
He didn't take them before a game as 'performance enhancing' drugs and if he did it the night before that makes how good he was even more impressive.

Brian Clough used to get his players pissed the night before big matches to calm them down, to the point that if they were asleep, he'd wake them up. He even did this to his players that didn't drink, is that performance enhancing?

So now, not only are we condoning the taking of recreational drugs like Ecstacy and Speed, but it's also now impressive?

Surely you guys don't condone the use of recreational drugs?

If it's not provan then the concept is dead and rlw are selling out leagues history for a modern day popularity contest and pandering to newer fans
