In before sack Bennett

He's turned us into a team that can do things, and has been the making of Jarrod Mullen. That's enough for me already. He's instilled a toughness and a passion back into our football that I haven't seen since we were winning premierships.

If we can play out the whole year like we did the second half of this year, I'll back us for a top 4 finish and big impact in the finals next year.

4 wins hoodoo not our greatest concern this weekend. A good week to break it, if nothing else.

It wasn't so long ago we weren't playing with a great deal of toughness. I'm not so quick to forget that we've been rubbish more often than not this year.

It's good to see us playing beyond the 60th minute. I reckon we'll be a real threat next year.

I just think the changes in mentality are profound and worthwhile. I don't think we've been as bad as has been made out at different stages in the year (and I don't think we've been bad much at all in the second half of the year). Furthermore, I don't necessarily blame the coach when it was clearly the players that weren't buying into his philosophy.

I don't think we were a team that knew what a real winning attitude looked like or felt like until Bennett got here, but I can see it in us now.

To be honest I saw a little bit of the 2010 Dragons from the Knights yesterday. They just pummelled the dogs till they were out on their feet. If they can get past the storm then I think they can make the big dance.

I think we will struggle next year without a quality hooker. When Bedsy is off the field, we lose all direction and speed from the ruck. I personally believe thats our #1 priority for next season

We have a quality hooker, his name is Adam Clydsdale. It'll be stop-gap solutions until he's ready for the gig full time.

I've heard that Gower is asking for another year, so hopefully we don't need to use Waddell next year. Hilder will be around for another year, too.

Would love to see Clydsdale start and a solid option like Gower/Hilder off the bench in 2014. Maybe Roberts, but he should stay at half if he keeps playing like he did yesterday.

I'd prefer Hilder to Gower tbh. Waltz is a far better defender and is very similar in his clean up work to Bedsy. Also, Gower coming on pushes Roberts to hooker more often than not and I think that blunts his effectiveness

Hilders service from DH has been much improved in his last 2 games too.

We will make the 4 next year I have no doubt about that. The Bennett machine has only just started to get traction at the club.

If we win on Saturday, it will clearly be because the Storm just weren't at their best. We'd get rolled by the Roosters the following week.

Yes, if we win Melbourne will have beaten themselves. I'm fine with that, btw... I'd be quite happy for the Roosters to beat themselves the following week and then have Manly implode and beat themselves in the Grand Final, too.

They didn't rate us in 1997 because Manly were far too strong and had already belted us in the regular season.

They didn't rate us in 2001 because Parramatta were the most dominant club team the entire season, absolutely smashing point scoring records.

They don't rate us now. "Only the top 4 can win the premiership" the so-called "experts" say.

So please...tell me exactly what has changed for us? We have always been the perennial battlers, the team from that smog coated run down industrial town that is sniffed at disdainfully by Bondi latte sippers as they go for their morning power walks.

We're Newcastle! We're mutts! We've been kicked down, spat on, forced to train out of rusted old shipping containers for the greater part of our existence. But there is nothing more loveable, more adorable than the mutt!

But I tell you what. Jimmy Mac just showed us all on Sunday how a real Novocastrian plays rugby league. He got smacked clean in the head but did he lay down on the ground and writhe around in pain. Did he carry on like this fricking disowned mongoloid...

No! He got up and played the ball even if he did have an acute case of the fuzzies!

That is Newcastle! So let's go down there and f*** up the Storm this Saturday!
