Indigenous All Stars vs Polynesian All Stars

So with the upcoming All Stars game on Friday, I saw an article that claimed that Jared Waerea-Hargreaves was interested in bringing in a Māori team. However i've always had the idea that it should be a Polynesian combined team. Everyone knows that Polynesian supporters are incredibly passionate about their teams and their countries, you only have to go back to the Samoa vs Tonga game at Penrith a few years ago to see the crowd swarm the field to see that.

The idea I have (as do many others) is simple. Choose the best Indigenous team and get them to play the best Polynesian team HOWEVER considering the latter team has a wider pool of players to choose from, they can only have a maximum of 5 players that have played for New Zealand. Looking at the squads i've made (If there was hypothetically a game for 2015) we could see a game featuring these teams;

Indigenous All Stars 2015

1. Greg Inglis
2. Alex Johnston
3. Justin Hodges
4. Will Chambers
5. Blake Ferguson
6. Jamie Soward
7. Johnathan Thurston ©
8. Andrew Fifita
9. Nathan Peats
10. Ryan James
11. Sam Thaiday
12. Wade Graham
13. Greg Bird

14. Tyrone Peachey
15. Kyle Turner
16. Ben Barba
17. George Rose
18. Jack Wighton
19. Jamal Idris
20. Keirran Moseley

Polynesian All Stars 2015 (Max 5 Kiwi players)

1. Sione Mata’utia (Samoa)
2. Akuila Uate (Fiji)
3. Michael Jennings (Tonga)
4. Konrad Hurrell (Tonga)
5. Manu Vatuvei (Samoa)*
6. Anthony Milford (Samoa)
7. Benji Marshall © (Māori)*
8. Jared Waerea Hargreaves (Māori)*
9. Issac Luke (Māori)*
10. James Tamou (Māori)
11. Josh Papalii (Māori)
12. Jason Taumalolo (Tonga)*
13. Tariq Sims (Fiji)

14. Josh Maguire (Samoa)
15. James Segeyaro (Papua New Guinea)
16. Dylan Walker (Pitcairn Islands)
17. Jayson Bukuya (Fiji)
18. Feleti Mateo (Tonga)
19. Sisa Waqa (Fiji)
20. Dylan Napa (Cook Islands)

* Denotes NZ Kiwi players

If anyone has any opinion as to choosing different players for the squads feel free to shout out, just my opinion but i've probably forgotten anyone.

Anyway this really needs to be done so that we can not only celebrate the players we have who represent the great land and the great islands of Australasia but also advertise and expand world rugby league. Take note NRL.

First of all, lose the online selection, it degrades the concept. Same would happen to Origin if this online sewage way left to pick the team.

I do agree that the current matchup cant last, no one give two shits about the NRL All Stars, so the result means nothing to anyone, BUT it would be a shame to lose the Indigenous rep team. Personally, id say add the Indigenous team into an International 9s tournament along side an Aussie team.

Speak for yourself, a lot of us care about the All Stars, only because it gives the Indigenous someone to play and the result means more than Origin imo. You're right about the 9's, means sfa just clubs against clubs. Club representation should be made up of leftovers after Indigenous teams from everywhere are selected to compete. The main bearing for the 9's should be to showcase as many League players as possible

FFS. Just leave it as is but move the game elsewhere. The players like it, that's the main thing. Scrap or weaken the concept and watch the outcry. Try telling one of those Indigenous players selected that the game is pointless. Seriously, I don't think any of the morons crying for the game to be axed because they don't see the point in it have any regard for the effect scrapping it will have on others.

Keep it as it is. The public like it, going by the TV ratings. A great way to kick off the season.

There is a easier way to fix this without having to play this faking pointless pre-season game that has now lost it's glory.
I have nothing against the all-stars, as in the indigenous all-stars. It is good for them to have a place to market themselves in our code.
The simple way to fix this problem is to allow them a Indigenous team into the Nines event.
This event needs to grow and market itself with new ideas, and it has no chance of falling over like this All-star event.

The Maori and Poly and Melly boys can also put forward cases to have a team as well if they want to, it's a idea to keep alive the concept of the indigenous all-stars, without having to play a full-on pre-season game.
Our code needs to get smarter.

?,,,Is there white players in the NRL,,,,, i hadn't noticed.

There'll be a whole lot more names harder to pronounce if clubs renege on taking games to the bush . . . if Manly fail to take on the Dubbo game after the hard work locals put in we will see Seagle jerseys in the local Vinnies

I pointed out not long ago a way to fix this problem with bush towns getting games.
Remember when i was talking about making the nines a 3 weekend blockbuster events sold to each city on a rotational basis so it does not become stale, like the all-stars.

Anyhow i mentioned that we still have the pre-season trails, for the other players in teams who dont play in the nines events pre-season, but make every NRL club take at least one of their games to the bushtowns who can hold a proper NRL event, like Dubbo, Bathurst and Mackay.
That will give these towns 16, or 18 games if we expand (one game from each club), to take to their towns, and a proper NRL game, so they get better publicity and more attendence.

These are just simple common sense growth ideas. It's not faking rocket science.

And the Gold coast and Titans dont mix, while we have Logan, our faking heartlands without a team.
It just dont make sense Popeye, it dont make sense.
Like having 10 faking refs, it dont make sense. while in the under 20's we are still trialing the captains challenge.

Many things rugby league does and do dont make sense. Our code could be called Doctor do-little, be we do-little to expand and grow.

How many people who are saying it should be scrapped have actually been to it? We flew across a couple of years ago when it was at suncorp. Was a brilliant event.ngreat cultural entertainment before hand, enjoyable game, great crowd atmosphere 30k plus attending. Obviously meant a lot to the players and the indigineous crowd

Why do rl fans have adhd when it comes to events? two years and your bored and want to scrap them.

i can see merit in this if they stand down origin players.....because it would then be an opportunity to increase the workload on players who would not normally be burdened, and still have a concept that could be successful.

People of Fijian and PNG heritage are Melanesian, not Polynesian

I think you will find the same goes for Cook Islanders, I doubt Pitcairn Islanders are Polynesian.

The majority of Maoris believe they are a race on their own, due to thousand of years of isolation.

I have enjoyed the game each year from the simple position that I have been hanging out for footy but it does lack so far as investment when one side is beaming with pride in their culture and the other side is those that simply don't come from that background. Not alot to be proud of.

I don't see why the opposition could not change at times - with the Indigenous boys always being the primary.

I am sure the Maori All Stars would jump at it, as would a general 'Pacific All Stars side' or 'Global All Stars' (like a Barbarians side)

The advantage of the Maori would be that it is 2 indigenous cultures taking on each other and displaying pride and culture It would also be good for the game in NZ as well.

If it were a Pacific All Stars (no NZ Players at all) then we will have created a Pacific United side which can take on NZ during the Origin period and Australia at different times. We could probably guarantee that side atleast 2 - 4 games per year of top line '1st Teir nation' status games.
