My only question is why would Storm hold a PC to announce this? Wouldn't it be more liklely Brisbane would hold a PC to do a bit of chest beating about their recruitment of Inglis??? But fingers crossed that Matt Marshalls "inside word" is correct. Can't wait:D

AN unflinching Broncos remain upbeat that love, and not money, will lure Greg Inglis to the glamour club's bunker next year.

Brisbane chief executive Bruno Cullen last night declared his club's position remains unmoved despite local southeast rivals Gold Coast Titans upping the ante to entice Inglis down the highway.

It is believed the Titans, who yesterday confirmed they took Inglis on a personal tour of the Gold Coast and their club's $30 million Centre of Excellence at Robina, will be able to table Inglis a higher financial package than Brisbane.

But assuming the Storm will release the Test star from the final two years of his reported $700,000-per-season deal, the Broncos remain in the box seat.

Inglis owns a house in Paddington and his fiancee Sally Robinson lives and works in Brisbane.

The presence of Test and Queensland Origin skipper Darren Lockyer is also a major trump card.

``We've been not assured, but given strong indications that he wants to come to Brisbane,'' Cullen said.

``You'd hope he'd come to a club he wants to play at.

``A major factor now is that he's engaged and his fiancee lives and works in Brisbane.

``They are engaged, and are planning to marry, and want to settle their lives and futures by living together in the one town.

``We believe that will be a pretty important factor for Greg. We know he won't come for peanuts. We've got to be competitive and we're confident our offer is.''

Cullen said Broncos fans should not read the Titans' move to wine and dine Inglis as a death knell to their bid.

``Everything is exactly the same, we're still waiting for Melbourne to grant a release,'' Cullen said.

``He's contracted to the Storm for another couple of years, they have a new CEO, and they're still working on their salary cap with Ian Schubert (NRL auditor).

``There's nothing we, the Gold Coast or anyone else can do yet so there's no use getting excited or speculating.

``The Titans know and we know we can negotiate, and the offers are there, but we've got to wait for Melbourne to release him.''

Titans coach John Cartwright confirmed he and managing director Michael Searle had met Inglis during Monday's grand tour.

``I had a quick chat (with Inglis) but that's in the hands of Searley and his manager (Allan Gainey),'' Cartwright said.

``It was a positive move for him and a positive move for our club, to know there's a player there that can benefit us.

``Whether we get him or not, that's up to him and his manager.''

Cartwright said the Titans could also mount powerful arguments, other than cash, for Inglis to join them.

``You couldn't helped but be impressed by (the facilities) - they're world-class, the best in the NRL,'' Cartwright said.

``He had a look around the training centre and places to live around the Gold Coast.

``He knows a lot of the (Titans) players through representative footy, knows a lot of the staff. He's got a lot to weigh up.''

Does anyone no when the storm have to present how they are going to get under the cap?

What the hell, seriously, how could the titans afford him? They were already under massive investigation this year, and as far as I know aren't really losing anyone next year

I Heard that the Titans have less than 200k to move with next year but that is if they keep the squad they have now and from the looks of it if GI does end up at the titans they will loss Mat Rogers and another player. Also I am sure that the storm have till the start of next season to be under the Cap so there in no rush.

surely they would want to get all of their signings and releases done soon so that they don't risk making the rest of the league even more pissed off at them than they already are. As for the Titans i really don't see them as a threat, Searle has said repeatedly that thye have yet to make an offer.

Matty Johns just stated on his show that he has word that Inglis is now staying in Melbourne....

Disappointing if true.

Really wish this to be settled very soon.

why would you let cronk go. He is a fantastic half back and he is in a position that is extremely hard to replace, where as a center is easier to replace IMO.

I agree, I just think Melbourne are going to let Cronk go not Inglis.

Melbourne are dumb sh*ts if they hold on to Inglis at the expence of Cronk. Cronk and Smith are the two players the Storm nead to re-build their shattered club around. You dont build a club around a f**king centre, no matter how good he is. Losing Cronk will be faaaaaaaaar worse for the Storm than Inglis could ever be. oh well.

Would rather throw the bucket at Cronk anyway. Yeah Inglis is good..but 400K+ contracts should ONLY and I repeat that ONLY be for playmakers/ hookers.

Storm have lost their mind if true. They are letting Finch go, so losing their 7 as well, means no halves next year. Widdop might be an option at 5/8, but who will be their 7? So complete change of halves next year if true, mass exodus of forwards, all to keep anyone else from getting their hands on the fab 4.

sounds like theyre willing to cut off their noses to spite their face if you ask me.

Greg Inglis expected to announce he will stay with Melbourne Storm

By Matt Marshall and Peter Badel
August 08, 2010 In a stunning twist, Melbourne Storm are set to announce on Monday they have won the battle to retain superstar centre Greg Inglis.
The protracted contract saga over the hottest signature in rugby league took a dramatic turn, with Inglis now tipped to see out the final two years of his $660,000-per-season contract at the Storm, shunning approaches from the Brisbane Broncos and Gold Coast Titans.
The Queenslanders aren't dead in the water yet, but with an official decision expected to be revealed tomorrow in Melbourne, the Storm appears increasingly likely to emerge from their crippling salary cap scandal with their "Fab Four" of Inglis, Cameron Smith, Billy Slater and Cooper Cronk intact.
Inglis' likely retention for 2011-12 is set to come at a cost, with Kiwi Test forwards Adam Blair and Sika Manu, and perhaps centre Dane Nielsen, looming as likely targets for fresh poaching bids from rival NRL clubs.
Should Inglis stay in Melbourne it would be a bitter blow both for the Broncos, touted as frontrunners to poach the Kangaroos and Maroons Origin star from next year, and also the cashed-up Titans.
"There's no edict at all that we can't keep all four, the only edict we have is to be under the salary cap next year. How we do that is our choice," a high-ranking Storm official said.
"And, God yeah, we want to keep Greg. He's a once-in-a-generation player. He brings so many elements on and off the field.
"We've got to look at the big picture too and take his personal interests into account also. Were going through all that at the moment.
"But it's not a matter of Greg being desperate to get out of the place . . . that couldn't be further from the truth. It's very complicated, it's not as simple as him wanting to stay or wanting to go, but we need to get on with it so we resume everything else."
Brisbane have played hard-ball in their dealings to poach Inglis - publicly declaring they would not waver from their offer, believed to be worth $400,000 per season plus a car.
The Broncos were extremely confident of luring Inglis to Red Hill after he expressed his desire to make a fresh start with fiancee Sally Robinson, who lives and works in Brisbane.
But Inglis family friend Adrian Coolwell, whom the centre regards as his second dad after being billeted with him in Queensland as a 16-year-old, said he was now certain the Maroons flyer would stay in Melbourne.
"Sally will keep travelling down," he said. "She was doing that anyway so its not the big deal some people might think.
"She's got some business contacts in Melbourne which she often visits so there's not a problem with the travel.
"Another factor is Greg's parents. They have just settled in Melbourne and they actually like it there so it all points to Greg staying. My gut feel is he will stay.
"Greg was wanting to stay there all along, if the salary cap stuff never happened Greg would never have thought about leaving."
The Broncos were offered verbal assurances Inglis wanted to link with the six-time premiers, but the negotiations hinged on the Storm's blessing and were subject to NRL directives on Melbourne's salary cap position, which were finalised late last week.
It is believed Brisbane's final contract offer would have left the Storm to pick up $410,000 of his bill over the next two years, under their salary cap, a position Inglis and Melbourne club were unhappy about.
The Titans offer was more viable - valued at $550,000 next year, increasing to the full $660,000 in 2012 - meaning the Storm would pay only $110,000 under next year's cap and nothing in 2012.

Lol at Melbourne. I'm glad Brisbane have played hardball and not offered any more money. Whether he comes here or not, it doesn't really bother me.

Hows JT working out for you. The point is the 7 doesnt have to be a great player, he just needs to be a leader who can guide the team around the field. If Cronk goes and Bellamy thinks that Luke Kelly or some-one else can do that, Im confident we wont lose much. And Smith is faaaaaaaaar more important then Cooper.
