Ch 9 Melbourne cut the broadcast on the siren. Is there something they desperately had to air that was going to outrate Origin at that very moment?

I was pissed that they cut straight to the Footy Show, but Garry Lyon put in an endorsement for the game better than anything I've seen from any league show.

The audience were silent and the panel didn't add much else to the discussion, but he spent a good minute or two during the opening of the show talking about how it is the biggest sporting event in Australia outside of the AFL grand final and how the players should be commended for not being selfish and for putting the match before their club interests.

Always lousy presentation and the ads are just awful. So many times there were McDonald's promos for the damn soccer world cup.

Why couldn't McDonalds do a special league-themed ad for the Origin series? I was filthy when I saw that soccer ad as well. The ads are just shit during the Origin series. Not enough companies jumping on the Origin bandwagon, with Origin-themed commercials. The only one was that Ray Warren car ad.

It comes back to whether the game is an image companies WANT to associate with....

Everyone bitched about the shoulder charge going and the one-punch rule, but they are just the beginning of you want the game to become the kind of brand that everyone wants to associate with.

Soccer, AFL, ect. theyer all thuggish in their own way. But they have focused on the games image, so player dying/machette attack/gang rape seem like the exception rather than the rule.

NRL is no worse, but the game has been branded so badly for such a long time, its become poisonous. Everyone wants to advertise during the games (it is still the most followd League in the country) just no one wants their product directly associated with the game...

that is because of the journos we have and that is their intent

they want the ARLC to fail and try and make it as difficult as possible for them to get sponsors by harassing them and then also writing negative articles

many times in an article a journo has written about how they contacted sponsors

you don't find journos in other sports doing this as they are the complete opposite and are very protective

That car ad was for holden, the naming rights sponsor of state of origin, im sure there are restrictions on what companies are allowed to show in their ads in relation to origin, especially if they are not sponsors, afterall, that's what they are paying for. Hence why the only ads during the broadcast that really referenced NRL was its sponsors, holden, telstra, xxxx and sportsbet. Think you will find McDonald's is a sponsor of the world cup.

Is this not a Ch9 issue, they have months and months of lead up to Origin, you'd think they'd want to best returns here during the ads, Origin is like the Aussie version of SuperBowl, it's the pinnacle of Australian sport, where ppl who don't even follow Rugby League, tune in to watch.

“(Ending) the NRL Footy Show was a slightly easier decision because we went rugby league coverage into The NRL Footy Show which pushed it out until 9.45pm and it just started to be a lot of money spent late at night,” Marks said.

“The Melbourne Footy Show is a different equation. Our commitment to Melbourne, our commitment to (AFL) football — we have to maintain that focus.

The 'home' of rugby league that couldn't even show the Tonga v Australia test last Saturday, choosing to show it on Gem. Yep, good choice. Also, no coverage of the England v New Zealand 3-test series - but Fox League are showing all 3 games.

Maybe they're the house that everyone is training down?

Fox has been the home of Rugby League for a long time. Ch9 smack of a company that didn't want it but couldn't afford to be without it.

you maybe right and you can argue about who has the better commentators till the cows come home but the nine broadcast is of higher quality than fox. I've only noticed it recently but Nine shows more replays and camera angles than you get on fox, meaning they probably spend a bit more money on it.

I think both organisations are probably infected with AFL/Rugby Union zealots though who wished League would just go away, seems to be a common theme in this country.

More replays is what drives me nuts. I seen the play live, now I miss live action watching the replay.

i enjoy the replays from american sports and comparing to the nrl/aleague only the finals footage seems to be on point, a rethink is needed to encourage more enjoyable viewership on ch9 and wish vossy was still apart of 9
