Is Cleary a dud?

Any hope I had for IVAN Cleary is pretty much diminished now after hearing his press conference today.

He pretty much admits he has no idea how to coach attack.

Not an uncommon thing. Head coach is like a manager these days who they plan to sign as an assistant to fix the question for me.

I see Furner was sacked. What did he do at Souths? For me I'd go after Ben and Shane Walker to bring some trick plays in

Only when players show up.

Although plenty of the moves Ivan makes could explain why no progress has been made..making changes and not sticking with them:

3 different fullbacks. Each with differing styles. Cruicial position.

Swapping Blake from one edge to the other. Changing who he trains with.

Swapping DWZ from wing. To fullback. To centre. Back to wing. Changing his training.

Swapping Cleary and Maloney... changing all their combinations.

Then there's the injuries to Yeo and Kikau that have disrupted their roles in the team.

Honestly Ivan needs/needed to pick a direction and stick with it if he had reasons for changes stick with them. Changing back just sets you back even further again.

Now he's going with Fuimaono at centre instead of DWZ. People complained he didnt make unforced changes... yet here he is making way too many IMO. Worst part is getting glimpses of what we want to see and changing it to what no one wants to see.

It's a damn shame he didn't actually own up to his flaws though. I was optimistic he would get help and/or advice to solve the issue. Instead he's going to f**k around making changes too quickly to see if the change was actually good or not.

Ie. DWZ at centre. 2 games was not enough to see if he could be a centre.

No way Kikau and Edwards don't play. So the team named won't be how we run out

How devoid of ideas he was when it came to our attacking issues.

I deleted my comment because it's I've come to the conclusion that comments like mine just go round and round in circles.

I'm not going to add further except to say. I wonder why many of us who frequent these forums aren't working in the industry at the elite level.

I believe the issues at hand are more complex than a coach not being able to coach attack.

Many of these issues the team are having were present in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. This year those passes are just not quite comming off. Like when ME was using the Walsh kick to obtain points.

I believe the sex tapes have had a huge effect on the playing group. This was obviously intergrated with many of the players within the squad.

Add to that the injuries are surgeries that happened in the off season. Players like Mansour, Edwards are either caryying injuries and very low in confidence.

Plus the intense media speculation that has almost haunted the club for 18months. The media have gone from loving everything that's been done to being hyper critcal.

I saw Clearys comments are being perhaps off hand attempting to lighten the mood.

I see a danger of looking for simple amswers when the questions and issues at hand are muti layered and complex.

I truly hope Edwards is in.

Fb: Aekins
W: Mansour and Edwards
C: DWZ and Whare

So much better than having Fuimaono at centre. Especially if Edwards is keen to keep a spot.

The question that has to be asked is:

Is Edwards a better winger than Fui is a centre.

For me, he is and should play.

Need the cover incase Whare goes down. Hammy's often go again early. Fuimaono should play over Ellis for that reason

The absence of any decent attacking plays inside our opponents half or 20 metre zone is not a recent phenomena. We had the same issues under Ivan then Hook and now Ivan again. I don’t know where the problems start or whose to blame but it ain’t going to be rectified in 2019 I think that is a given.

Not even that in these cases. Team balance. Luai is better then 3 or 4 guys that will take the field.

Say Edwards doesn't play and Whare's hammy goes again (which happens) then who covers?

So for me that puts him in. Can't even waste a bench spot on him because need to backrow cover incase Kikau goes down

It wasn't so bad when Moylan and Bryce were here. For me need more ball players

The merkin is delusional if he thinks the spine is performing.

Not even the halfback himself thinks he is performing well. He is quoted as saying he is not in good form and doesn't deserve to play for NSW.

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/i-...-warrant-blues-selection-20190509-p51lsq.html,

"If I'm being honest with myself I don't deserve it at the moment," Cleary told the Herald at his Brisbane hotel when asked about playing for NSW. "There are people in my position who are playing a lot better. NSW is lucky in that regard to have depth there.

"It's hard to go past Luke Keary, he can play No. 6 or No. 7, he showed that in the grand final, and he's the form player in the whole comp. It's hard to go past him.

"There are still three games to go, hopefully I can put in some better efforts for this Penrith team, which is my job and what I need to do.

"I've been focusing too much on the result and everything else instead of playing the game and what I can do well.

"I'm not in great form, it's frustrating, but I'm working hard each week to better myself and get back into the form I know I can."

The best team balance is Fuimaono not starting in the backline.

If he starts in the centres or Edwards starts on the wing... how exactly is Whare covered? He isn't.

Team balance would suggest the backup incase Whare gets injured centre should be on the bench. Not starting.

Tgat said Fuimaono is not a centre. Period. He has played tgere. That doesnt make him any better at covering centre than Kuai or Katoa would be. He is not even good at centre in NSW Cup. Using that as a reason for him to be in the team is ridiculous. Like the Kurt Gidley utility value tag. He sucked everywhere except fullback. But being good in one position is better than none.

DWZ will be centre. Fuimaono bench. From the 19 Ellis/Grant and Luai won't play.
