Need to get the roster for Ivan 1st so atleast the next 2 seasons are building years

Not having a dig at you but I'm reading this more and more....".it's not Ivan's team....he needs his players etc"...well..this was his take on what he's come back to ...he sounded more than happy with the talent as is. Wasn't this year the culmination if what's been building but mismanaged by Hook? It sounds like he HAS the side he wants only with work to do ( cite last sentence)

As Cleary best put it: "The vision we had seven years ago is now coming to life.''
"The club has matured a lot over the last seven years, it's a different club to the one I left, just through the maturity factor. There's more confidence and belief,'' Cleary said.

"Most of the NRL boys have come through this system, they're maturing as players and people and maturing together, which helps the whole feeling of the club.

"The Panthers are more of a presence than we were.

"At the start it was a complete rebuild. We were training on this goat track out the back [of Panthers' Leagues Club].

"We'd talk about our vision and what it would be like. I felt it as a spectator, and because Nathan been playing I've been potentially afan and at home games you can feel it.

"One of the big visions was to have the bulk of the NRL squad developed through our system.
"At the start it was around 20 per cent, now it's up around 80 per cent.

"When I was here guys like Waqa Blake, Isaah Yeo, Dallin [Watene-Zelezniak], Josh Mansour, Sione Katoa, they debuted, then along came Nathan, Dylan Edwards, Tyrone May, Jarome Luai, the list goes on.

"We'll be much more of a force in the future.

"To get a premiership you need to finish in the top four, and to get into the top four you need to do 'X, Y and Z'.

"I feel confident we'll give every team a shake. The talent is there, the culture is strong, the effort has been good. We just need to realise that potential and execute well, and anybody who has watched this team the last few years will know there's still work to do there.''

I don’t see us in a rebuild phase as the nucleus of a side is definitely there it’s just the same as it has been for the best part of three or four seasons in that we lack two or three outstanding players in key positions. If we had the likes of. Latrell Mitchell, Blake Ferguson and Martin Taupau as three simple examples would we be a top four or premiership contender well I would say almost certainly. Ivan is not stupid, he will know exactly what he needs to build a top four side. If he needs to recruit well players will have to be shown the exit door or perhaps there is the quality within the club in terms of a very good crop of youngsters from our Jersey Flagg side. I can see half a dozen or more current top 30 players not being with us next season I think that is a given.

Those Flegg guys will be good but are a good 2-3 years away. History has shown Ivan shows caution with young guys.

I don't think a total rebuild but Ivan's teams use ball playing fullbacks. Have a bench utility to cover hooker etc.

A couple of things too that Different coaches play different styles. Hook wanted big guys to put on hits and be agressive where as Ivan likes high work rates.

Of that list 2 are in NSW Cup. 1 is the bench hooker so things clearly have changed in a few regards

Yep...fair enough...true My point about the team though...a number of '19 coaches are doing the best they can with someone else's side but by his own words Ivan can't claim that as a reason for ( if it turns out to be the case) not achieving relative success this year...he's completing unfinished business...again..his words and assessment

Bennett has no magic wand its a case of an experienced coach going to an experienced team vs an unexperienced coach going to a very young team i dont think bennett could have done too much better with us maybe discipline thats about it.

Discipline is what cost us the game against the Sharks

What Bennett has done is not change what worked but added too it.

Compare that to our situation. Kikau/Blake changing sides for example

My thoughts exactly. Bennett doesn't change what works and gives his players confidence in what they are doing. Souths players after the game last night said Bennett has simplified their game. I have heard the same comments made with guys that have played under Bellamy that he gives them one job to do and to do it well and everything else will come off the back of that.

IMO that is due to rushing them. Nothing wrong with them playing a year or 2 in NSW Cup before they come in.

Follow the Sharks model of older guys with the kids and things change
