With the A-League's signing of Harry Kewell and Brett Emerton this week, I firmly believe that is a sound investment into raising the profile of the sleeping giant of the round-ball code across the eastern states.

I work in a work force where many workers check their English Premier League fantasy team every morning on their computers at the start of the day. Luckily, the same workers also play the NRL fantasy teams too. In office floors above me, there is a large swing towards AFL and Rugby Union.

I think it would be naive to ignore the possibility of A-League becoming more popular than NRL and I would rather work with the A-League than compete against them.

NRL clubs may need to consider the possibility of cross code promotions with the round ball code and I think that there are plenty of benefits that both codes can gain from each other. A-League and NRL would make powerful allies considering the codes can share resources and their competitions compete in each others off-season. The idea is that tv-rights packages and season ticket holder packages could be combined for the bi-codal fans.

I've never been to a live soccer game before, but if my NRL team were to align themselves with a sister A-League team, I would put my support behind it. All in the spirit to compete against the AFL empire and the Union nuffies.

Watch EPL games when I'm up late on a weekend or whatever and not out. Don't watch much A-League apart from the occasional game. Watch a few union games but most importantly...

I DO NOT WATCH ANY f**kING AFL.

If Emerton and Kewell play great, it could bring more big names to Australia. Soccer is one of the most played games in Primary schools, a coup like this could be enough to keep them playing the game through high school as well.

Can't see it becoming a massive sport here though. This deal will promote A-league more massively than Australia's 2006 World Cup Performances, and for a longer period of time.

but that's about it.

Watch NRL obviously. Love my football too. Try to watch EPL games when I can, as well as Serie A and La Liga. I wouldn't be against cross code promotion if it benefited our game. I might not watch the other codes, but if we can get a few more dollars and fans into our game then why not? If it's the difference between regional rugby league having a sustainable competition and clubs dropping like flies then I say go for it!

I only really follow the NRL but couldn't care less if others chose to follow other sports as well as the NRL. It's an individual choice and some people are sports nuts to the point they'll follow anything and everything and why shouldn't they.

I think it's a bit hypocritical to promote 'bi-codal' but then to suggest the NRL align with the A-League to fight off rival sporting codes. Get the irony there?

Also there is no chance in hell the A-League will become more popular than the NRL. Just about all soccer fans prefer to stay up until the early hours of the morning to watch the EPL than watch an A League match live during the day. And the standard of the competition is never going to improve because the big bucks in football are overseas. The EPL is where it's at for soccer fans and justifiably so.

About the only sport that I don't/can't watch is AFL. Absolute abomination of a sport and a disgrace to an otherwise tremendous country.

+1 Watch the same three, although i dont have an NBA team its probably my favourite sport.

Ive been a Lakers fan for a long time but basketball is a close second to rugby league for me, i order the league pass each year as the coverage here is crap.

League & Union and to a lesser extent, Soccer, need to align themselves when it comes to funding for facilities. The rugby codes need the same size facilities. Soccer requirements are close. These three can unite to ensure that every new facility is not an oval.

I'm a sport whore. I follow League, Soccer (EPL), and AFL seriously, and occasionally pay attention to the Rugby and NFL. I must make a caveat that while I follow and enjoy the sports of Australian Rules and Rugby Union, I despise the respective ruling bodies for their constant and arrogant anti-League aganeda.

RL mostly...

I find Union very hard to watch, its frustratingly similar to RL except just when you think something exciting might happen it fizzles out and someone kicks it into touch, or goes for a penalty.

AFL is an abortion of a sport - just the shear amount of poor ball control, points for missing, the geniused refs constantly blowing a whistle, carring the ball into touch, stupid names like "pocket" "fumble", the obsesive zellots who follow it... aweful. Oh and I forgot the "fisting" passes.

I tried getting into the A-League, but I just didn't care. It just looks worn out before it even starts, but I keep an eye on EPL (Hotspurs).

I like the NFL, NBA, Bundesliga and cricket too.

Popularity of the A-League should not be confused for the popularity of the sport of soccer which is hugely popular but like me a lot of people can not handle the poor quality of the A-League.

Nothing wrong with being "bi-codal" though unless it involves supporting VFL.
