Opinion Is Ricky Stuart the most overrated coach ever?

Stuart thinks he's a psychologist himself.

The players, you see, are very fragile, & he's protecting them.

What a martyr.

Stuart's behaviour during the press conference was a study in mental fragility. First year psychology students could assess the footage and diagnosis his underlying problems. As a player and during the early stages of his coaching career he was typically cocky and abrasive but years of failure as a coach has brought him to the precipice of a breakdown. Look at the press conference again and you'll notice that his voice is wavering, he is lost for words on a number of occasions and at other times he displays hostility towards the journalists without reason. He looks as if he's in the final throes of denial and he's finally be coming around to the realisation that he's not a good coach. Given Stuart's competitive nature it would be a very sobering epiphany for him.

That's my pseudo-analysis for you.

Well done. :thumb

Look I understand Campese is finished as a footballer. However every time he has a chance to speak Ricky butts in and interupts. Its a bad look whatever yo think of Campese

However Stuart is just a serial whinger. Last season he said Parra had a crap roster and it would take years to turn it around. He took every opportunity possible to blame the players. Look how they are going now just a few months after Ricky chucked it in? This years its the media and the refs fault.

The way he talks over his captain and swears at press conferences. It is honestly childish and I can see why players at Parramatta and Canberra would have little regard for him as a coach. What i saw today was a desperate man finding every excuse in the book to take the pressure off him. I thought it was embarrassing.

With a due respect, we do actually have a much better roster than in 2013, in part thanks to Sticky.

We've blooded Manu Ma'u, weve given Semi an extended run, we've got a good hooker for once, we have the class of William Hopoate and Pauli Pauli and Junior Paulo have stepped up.

Which all 3 of these players Peter Nolan was responsible for.

I don't know how well off the raiders are financially.
But there is no way he's gonna resign.
They should approach him and try to come to some sort or agreement.
Maybe meet him halfway or something.
The honourable thing would be for Stuart to resign.
But we all know that honour and Ricky are mortal enemies.

Absolutely.

I'm just saying that as much as we hate Stuart, he thankfully decided not to retain Keating, Ryan, Maitua, etc. and brought in Peats and Norman.

The 2014 Eels are a different side (they're also well-coached).

True, but had Sticky stayed at Parra all of those players would be playing like Campese.

Look at the Parra players that look like a million dollars now that looked utterly shite last year. Players don't "stand up" under Rickys guidance, they go into hiding.

I agree completely.

I'm just saying the squad, on paper, is different to 2013's squad.

But I agree totally - we are playing exciting footy this year because we have a coach worth a damn, for a change.

Read this in the Greenhouse.

I'm not sure if it's a true story, or a metaphor. Either way, it sums him up.

 I read that over there a few hours ago too, forgot to post it. I like how someone deduced it was merely an analogy for today's game.

Your team should have finished no lower than 12th last year
Coaching was the difference that brought you such failure

Brad Arthur is doing a respectable job this year and your team is a pleasure to watch. They'd be utter rubbish if Ricky was still there. He is a f**king cancer to any team he coaches. He crushes players confidence and their desire to try. f**k knows how he manages it but he does.

Thank goodness he left Parra. Its great seeing you score the tries you've been getting lately.

He walked out on the presser.
Blamed the refs deluxe.
I didn't see the game but read spoilers and from what everyone is saying it went both ways.
Really wanted the panthers to put another big score on them tho.

The Panthers were dragged down to their level and watching it was what I'd imagine getting a strip tease from Canterbury's CEO would be like . Wish I'd just waited till the press conference .
