I’m not a staff member of this particular forum.

The views expressed are my own... if I see something stupid written of course I’m going to jump on it..
Ha ha ha
If you see something stupid......?
Like you are the judge?
Like you have been awarded to choose what’s right or wrong?
Get off your high horse, donkey or mule or whatever it is you farm boys ride these days.

You own no shares, you own nothing.
You sit on the board
Of course I don’t have shares in the football club.. as much as we’d all like to, none of us do (but that’s a completely separate discussion..)

And I’m certainly not on the board.. What a silly assertion..

Although I’d like to be on the board..

First point of order would be to sack the coach.

Of course you were.
Won anything pre 1999?
Nope.
The Steelers competed for 17 seasons (1982-1998) and won no premierships, how many did St George win during this period?

The Steelers Club, is a leagues club based in Wollongong. They sold their shares to WIN a private company based in Wollongong. If St George Leagues club wanted the club to be a stand-alone entity then they should have bought the remaining shares. The club name will remain St George Illawarra Dragons, the badge will stay the same and we will continue to play 50-50 Wollongong and Sydney. You can reminisce and dream of a bygone era all you like it won’t change in the foreseeable future. You can delude yourself, based on what you’d like to happen, yet the St George Illawarra Dragons will remain The St George Illawarra Dragons. Get over it, it’s been 20 years.
I am over it, I was in fact happy and excited when it happened.
The media were saying a new super club was born, one that would surpass the Broncos. We combined the two teams and got to the GF. I really thought the days of gold had come.

Then it dawned on me during 2000, 2001 and even 2002 that Illawarra had no idea how to win and that we would be reduced to their level.
And it has happened.

That’s what I can’t stand.
The bog averageness of everything Illawarra.

Saints made plenty of GFs during a 17 yr period, 85, 92, 93, 96.
And I was talking about all sports.
Saints had St George Budapest Soccer team, super successful.
Saints cricket team first grade premiers a stack of times. Shit we even had DON BRADMAN in our team. First Sydney club he played for. Can’t beat that.
Saints men’s hockey premier team, won a stack of comps.

Illawarra. Surf sun and nothing else.

No wonder you’re such a cranky little shit then. It must really hurt you that the Illawarra region is gradually taking control of the club.

We are each the judge of our own views and opinions.. To say otherwise is awfully oppressive..

Get off your high horse, donkey or mule or whatever it is you farm boys ride these days.
Pigs are the current craze to ride.. More padding than a horse..

You should give it a crack..

So true, amongst the biggest junior area in OZ, but we don’t have the nouse nor the drive and ambition to pick the prize lambs from the farm.
My god we are a useless organisation these days.
Our administration is for far too long been consumed with factional games between St George and Illawarra. The whole joint venture thing was a mistake. Bad for Illawarra Leagues Club and bad for St George Leagues Club. All that needed to happen was to let the Steelers lose their licence and then come to an arrangement with them regarding feeder club and junior development.

Like Cronulla, the Sealers team evolved out of the old St George catchment area. This was a big mistake by the ARL at the time. Instead of splitting the St George district into 3, the ARL should have entered two extra teams from outside Sydney. Illawarra do no longer have a stand alone team and Cronulla went very close to losing their licence. But worst of all, the once mighty St George team are held back through backroom nonsense between factions.

What we need is a complete cleanout of management and the installation of business people from the WIN side and CLEVER people with football knowledge from the St George side. I'd be happy to retain the SGI name purely as recognition of the feeder district. I'd be happy to play half the home games at the gong purely because the Illawarra is a growing market, WIN TV is their local tv station and junior player recognition would increase attendance. Prior to the split off from St George, most rugby league fans from the Illawarra district followed St George.

I used to like the idea, back in 1999, but now I realise it’s like a van full of hippies pulling up outside your house, offering you a nice new meal on their first day, like Illawarra did for us in the 1999 season, but once inside your house......they destroy everything, torture you and force you to become one of them.
Trouble is, they are losers, destined to become nothing because they have never been around motivated people who are used to success.

Oh well, I can always hope for a Tsunami, with no casualties of course, just one that will take that part of the coast out to sea.

Illawarra Hawks won a NBL title, Wollongong Wolves won a couple of NSL titles, Wayne Gardner was motorcycle world champion, plenty of swimmers, Iron men champions, Australian cricketers etc just off the top of my head.

Illawarra would probably have merged with Cronulla.

As I said, the same as St George won in their first 17 years. Just as many wooden spoons as well actually.

OurYears said he was talking about other sports, hence why I mentioned those.

I don't quite get why they take 5 mil less with the Win take over . Going by reports it could have been double . They ain't traveling that good to knock it back . It could be as others say the boys Club were only worried about their jobs , knowing if they went the other way it would be bye bye to most of them . If it pans out that way with very little change I'm afraid they will last a few more years then same shit ....
