I think the time has come to rename this thread - How To Weaken The NRL. Everything the brains trust of GROTD,Perth Red and flippikat come up with will only serve to damage the game, not strengthen it. I really think they are AFL trolls masquerading as League fans because they seem intent on killing off Rugby League as a major sport in this country. It would definitely explain why they have such low IQs and whinge and whine like little bitches.

Nope. You create 5 new teams to represent Sydney, just like the NSWRL did when they entered the Knights, Steelers, Raiders and Broncos. The 9 suburban clubs currently representing Sydney can go play against the Bears and Jets in the NSWRL Premiership.

South Sydney, Sydney and Parramatta and Western Sydney could theoretically stay and become mega clubs as they have fans and add value to the broadcast rights. Remove the weak so the strong can grow into clubs that draw 25k or 40k to their games.

It's stupid how you and @MugaB want Sydney's clubs to play by a different set of rules to everyone else.
Precisely. Every other city has been expected to fold their proud local competition into a lower tier behind ONE top-flight club.. so why not ask Sydney to condense into 5 for the long term growth of the game?

Oh yeah, because tradition.

Are all RL fans in Sydney as deluded as this dickhead?

RL didn't die in Newcastle, Wollongong, Canberra, Auckland or Brisbane when their proud clubs were relegated to second tier status, but apparently the game will die in every region of the world if a few Sydney teams that cannot tread water without assistance from HQ are cut. These people from Sydney are away with the fairies.

So what's the population of Georges River Council, Bayside Council and Sutherland Shire?

Georges River Council
146,841 (2016 census)

Bayside Council
156,058 (2016 census)

Sutherland Shire
218,464 (2016 census)

Total
521,363

So just over 500k. Not that long ago it was under 500k.
Townsville = not even 200k

Keep crapping on about your council figures buddy, and where's the illawarra or shellharbour population figures?
You say these two teams are too close together, but they both represent a far greater area then you realise... so if Townsville only represent under 200k, and cronulla represent more than that, and st.george-illawarra even more than that then your maths is questionable, all your doing is pointing out figures to suit your narrative, do your council figures for the roosters then get back to me

You do know the Storm are the secind most valuable team to the nrl after broncos don’t you? The $30 odd million the nrl invest3d has paid dividends many times over.

brisbane2
perth
nz2
brisbane 3 (if 2 is a success) should be the nrls 20 year growth strategy

adelaide for a Sydney club relocation.
Im not against adding another Melbourne storm type set up for Perth and/or Adelaide, i just can't see it happening in the next few expansion bids, unless the RL gets super flushed with cash to invest into bringing that about, don't get me wrong on that front, i want the league to expand there, its just can't happen when there is other "heartland" areas that are playing league right now at a competitive level that are bidding to get the next few spots ahead of Wa/Sa.. it will come but the league has to be able to afford to do what the ALF do with the Giants/Suns

Nope, your the knob, whos advocating to cut off his nose to despite his face, every week theres another moronic plan to shrink the sydney clubs, its a wonder how you function on a daily basis, who's next on the chopping block? Canterbury bulldogs, coz they are running last?

Cowboys drew bigger crowds than Dragons and Sharks in 2019, despite having an unsuccessful team playing at an old run down stadium and less than 200k people in Townsville.

Aceept it mate, Southern Sydney cannot support two teams. Even Paul Kent said as much.

No, the moronic thinking is steadfastly believing that we need more than half a dozen clubs at the top tier based in one city - meanwhile many other major sports leagues in Australia have complete coverage of all the state capitals, and the one other league that's similarly imbalanced (AFL) have taken moves to rationalize Melbourne.. to the extent of actually moving clubs interstate & pushing for at least one more club to move.

We're getting left behind due to our own administrators' inertia on this issue.

f**k AFL, the fact you want the NRL to model themselves on their metrics, proves how delusional your thought patterns must be, fumbleball haven't got the tv product that league has, yes they've moved the swans in the 80s, but thats it, they still have the bulk of their teams based in Victoria, so im not sure what your problem is, league will expand into those markets eventually, maybe not in this decade, and this whole rationalization arguments are useless and petty, coz it will never happen, you're just being whingers

Moved the Swans

Moved/merged the Lions

Tried to move the Kangaroos to the GC.

That's THREE instances where relocation was mooted, 2 carried out.

The NRL has painted itself into a corner by having regional teams like the Cowboys, Knights, Warriors, and Raiders as well as a lot of teams in Sydney.. so if expansion happens it'll challenge our depth (in all factors). No one in their right mind would pull out of the regions, but rationalizing Sydney makes sense to capitalise on new markets.
