"It’s very realistic to say that we’ll have a second team in Brisbane in 2023": V'landys

The NRL holds the cards so they will get what they want. If that is a certain number of games at Suncorp, they just put that in the contract with the Dolphins. Not hard.
There's no way that such a mandate from the league would stand up in court. In fact it's been tried, the NSWRL and QRL tried to force the the Broncos to play at Lang park in similar circumstances. They were in ANZ in under a year.

Besides, outside of extreme circumstances, trying force things like that is just a recipe for creating bad working relationships, which is better avoided if possible.

If the NRL tells the dolphins that they would only be admitted if they play out of Suncorp, then they will play out of Suncorp

Strange, I seem to remember the NSWRL saying something similar to another Brisbane team as a favour to the QRL after their dealings with said club broke down. That team were playing out of ANZ in a year.

The NRL are not the dictatorial force that some would like to imagine that they are, and the NRL clubs have a much more antagonistic relationship with them than the AFL does with it's clubs. If an NRL club really wants to play games somewhere there's nothing the NRL could do to stop them without it being an optics nightmare for them and the sport.

North shore to pennant hills & maybe beyond isn't a small suburb. When A league looked to expand most recently, this region out performed every other option in metrics.
Don't get why somebody in chatswood having affinity for say Canterbury or Penrith but hey you post a lot of weird stuff
Chatswood to Brookvale 13km, Chatswood to SFS 13km, Chatswood to Bankwest 26km. If I live in Chatswood and want to follow an NRL club I have a plethora of options near by already! The problem isnt the Northern suburbs of Sydney not having a club, its none of the many clubs within easy reach making an effort to develop new customers from the northern suburbs.

Chatswood to Bankwest might only be 26km but try driving it in rush hour. Of course you wouldn't have any concept of traffic in a major city given you live in a glorified country town at the arse-end of Australia.

That'd almost certainly be a recipe for disaster.

Too many chiefs all pulling in different directions is never a good thing. I mean can you imagine the infighting over how many home games are played at each venue each season, how much of each colour's in the jersey, etc, etc. It'd be the worst of West Tigers disfunction on roids as you'd effectively have 4 different ownership groups all pulling in different directions and fighting for dominance over the others.

It'd also severely suffer from trying to be everything to everyone.
You make some good points there

I can’t see any Chinese companies showing any interest in Rugby League at all. Have you seen any indications that this may one day be a thing? And do we really want Chinese interests controlling our game?

Yes I've had the pleasure of dealing with douchè for over a year now, constant derailing of every expansion thread, with nonsense and bad ideas or just plain "anarchy in syd-e-n-ey" rationalization..
Its mind blowing that people can't understand what expansion is ....
Expanding is adding to the status quo

Vlandy's words sure seem to indicate that it's Redcliffe's to lose. Although, all the talk of the Northern and Western Corridor to fight off AFL and Soccer wouldn't surprise me if both the Dolphins and Jets got the nod (I'm not suggesting this is a good idea by the way). Firehawks don't seem to be seen a strategically important because the NRL obviously view the Broncos as having the city and inner suburbs covered. If either Jets or Dolphins get in because they are 'strategically important', how long until the other one is needed for the same reason?

The game could definitely benefit from a Brisbane derby but we should have never gotten to a point in RL heartland where it was necessary to fight off the AFL. The NRL does such a poor job at expansion but even worse at holding strong in its heartlands.

Always can turn it around with only Perth & Adelaide needed to cover all metro areas. Will take somebody willing to ignore clubs & just do it.

The Bronco's aren't an inner city club though. They have fans from all over the city and the majority are probably in the outer suburbs - Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Moreton Bay. If anything AFL and Union get most of their supporters from inner city.
