Mate, you’ve now lost any support I had for you. You love throwing stats and figures out to justify your own opinions, but when they don’t, you “don’t trust” them. That is a perfect example of cherry picking data, and you’ve proven yourself unreliable and completely biased.

The Gold Coast are still in the comp due to the participation rates in the catchment (2nd largest behind Penrith). They are on a long build after doing a terrible job of destroying their fan base in 2013/4 with the Centre of Excellence fiasco. It will take at least another 3-5 years but anyone with an objective eye seeing what’s happening around the club know it’s going to happen. The level of investment in the juniors is nearly on par with Penrith (who should be congratulated for being best in class).

No Gold Coast club means killing junior development between Ballina and Beenleigh, and is everything that will kill the game in the future.
Now you see what i mean, by the trolling going on, as soon as there is something new in the media, the next team goes on the chopping block, last year it was melbourne, 6 months later it was move dragons, then tigers then sharks, and this whole week it was manly, now its gold coast... flip flop chop chop.

An extra Friday night and regular timeslots could add more than an obscure new time slot that everybody complains about. What timeslot do you suggest?
I mean that depends.

Sunday prime time, Monday night footy, etc. It all really depends on the teams that are joining the comp, the value of the advertising space in each time slot, and whether the broadcasters think it’s a more reliable program than what they are already airing in that time slot.

If there’s a game in NZ every week then we could do some really interesting scheduling where it’s played in prime time there and earlier here.

Confirmation bias is probably the biggest problem in the NRL expansion discussion right now, even PVL seems to suffer from it.

Well i applaud him if he gets expansion off the ground, he has already done plenty in my eyes, and this will be the cherry on top, to get more teams entered, and hopefully spread to more areas, NZ2, WA, SA and maybe even PNG or Cairns based joint PNG. Its all gotta start somewhere

Another question I'm pondering.. what MOTIVE did The Australian have in running that lengthy article?

Was it just to "divide and conquer" - encouraging a split between clubs & head office so everyone's distracted and News Ltd gets what they want in the meantime?

Or is there a certain pro/anti expansion stance they're wanting to progress here?

If watching media has taught me anything, there's often an agenda behind the coverage - and its pretty much given with anything connected to Murdoch...

news ltd ran this today, can’t see it behind pay wall, anyone paste it?

Then it's not EXPANSION, and you are always the first to suggest a movement of licence, or a merger or culling of a team, you can't accept that expansion can be a good thing if pursued with good intentions, yet having another new qld team start up, all you want to do is cull its nearby neighbours, keep jumping at media shadows... sharks are going no where, its time to stop using that as a form of data, Greenberg has been moved on, most probably for suggesting just that. and in his tenure had not advanced any expansion of the game, nor improvements within the game itself or money the game was hemorrhaging due to his poor governance, since PVL and abdo had stepped up, all those metrics have improved, and hopefully expansion is upon us, if SEQ works, then we'll see other areas we can expand to.
As for this report, none of it is confirmed as read publically, so you cannot spout it as gospel or data, until you've yourself have read it, its just media spin until its available. Plus after all that it was carried out several years ago, and within those current parameters, the game was in decline in those areas, due to the wrestle, slow game play, confusion of refereeing decisions, money expenditure, the product was going stale at a slow rate, its now a better game for all its rule changes, and expansion has been floated around and rejected for over 15 years, its taken all of 1 year for these guys to approve it

wooo that’s a big claim! 18 and 19 nrl made big surpluses under Greenberg on the back of the tv deal he got over the line. All Abdo and Vlandys have done is slashed expenditure in a number of key areas. What impact that will have on revenue generation we don’t know yet. We also don’t know what tv deals we have ended with so again dont know if the nrl is better off or not!

the report wasnt several years ago, it was less than two lol. Beattie commissioned it and told Greenberg t9 get moving on expansion, he wanted to see perth and brisbane in ASAP. Sadly Vlandys then took over, covid hit the fan and we are now where we are,

My distrust in the Titans is based on historical records from 2011.

A quick Google brings up this from Footy Industry.

On July 26th, 2011, The Queensland Sunday Mail reported that there was a discrepancy between the Gold Coast Titans reported figures for all 14 of its matches, and the figures posted in the Stadiums Queensland Annual Report.

  • None of the Titans’ home crowds announced at 14 games matched the attendances printed in the annual report.
  • Thirteen of Gold Coast’s 14 games featured inflated attendances.
  • Five matches were overstated by 1500 or more attendees. The greatest discrepancy was an extra 2209 fans for the Titans’ home clash against Newcastle Knights in 2010.
  • Brisbane Broncos‘ crowd figures at 11 games were identical to those in the annual report.
  • Nine of North Queensland Cowboys‘ 12 games matched crowd figures in the report. Surprisingly, the club twice underquoted crowds.
The Titans blamed faulty scanners at the ground.

“The discrepancies of between as little as 27 at one game and as high as 2209 at another have come about because there are issues with the equipment that scans the number of people in the venue,” the club spokesman said. “There was even one instance where the Skilled Park figure was actually higher than the Titans figure. We believe that Skilled Park and its contractor are working to rectify the discrepancies.”

The Centre of Excellence fiasco is another reason I have trouble trusting any figures released by Titans and, I am not convinced they will ever win over the GC public. Builders who were screwed over won't forget it. Neither will their families and friends.

So what! Whether you trust their crowd data or not, doesn't amount to turfing them as soon you can. Your delusional theories of who deserves an NRL licence over others based on cherry picked facts is getting worse as weeks go by, you forget that this is an expansion thread, not a rationalisation to 2 teams thread

Why do the Titans leave the southern stand closed?

Why do they have the lowest membership tally of all Australian clubs?

This is a place that has never been able to sustain a professional sporting club in over 30 years. It's not unreasonable to question the viability of the Titans when there's a long list of failure there.

What happens if Frizelle and Kelly pull out?

What is the ARLC doing to build support for the club?

They're in their 14th season now. How long will it take for them to build a sustainable fanbase?

Same can be said of the warriors or cowboys once upon a time, hell you've stated cases for Melbourne's leg up during news ltd ownerships many times over, there's always a team in your sights, go back to what your good at and revert to hating the broncos again... your posts are getting woefully boring

Cowboys have always drawn strong numbers for a regional team.

Their problems were brought about by Arthurson and Quayle bringing in four teams at once and Super League.

Failure was at the cowboys, for over a decade, i dont care about crowds like you do, i care that a team, any team can be successful in any season given the chance, it might take another decade before gold coast becomes consistently in finals or at least win a premiership, god knows it took the cowboys 10 years to make one, and 20 years before they managed to do it.

expansion definitely isn't your mindset.

Penrith started in 1967, took them till 1991 to win one, Cronulla same started in 1967, only managed to get success in 2016. Most teams will go decades before seeing either finals or a premiership, gold coast are no different

Lack of consistent on-field success isn't the problem for the Titans. It's the apathy of the Gold Coast public for the team. The city has earnt its reputation as a graveyard for professional sport.

If I was in charge of the Titans I’d start to think outside of the box like teaming up with both the hunters and silktails and investing heavily in both Fijian and PNG junior RL clinics/junior development clubs.

They have a huge catchment, why do they need png and fiji, thats a weird thing to say.... unless... you know nothing about the titans catchments, that's most probably it...

Why limit yourself to just the Gold Coast catchment area?

good on the likes of the storm who scouted the likes of Justin olam and suliasi vunivalu or the eels with maika sivo or the panthers with billy kikau etc.

maybe that’s why the Titans are so shite. Yeah, that’s probably it.

It'll be interesting to see how they rate and draw in 10 years. If they're still where they are now, then what does the ARLC do?

Probably all depends if the Titans are balancing their books. If they are haemorrhaging serious $$ and are averaging poor crowds with or without success then you’d probably have to say that their goose is cooked.

Data from 10 years ago, under different ownership. I don’t think that would hold up in a court of law…… grasping at straws mate. You’re not doing yourself any favours.

I don't trust the attendance figures stated by the Titans. Whenever I watch their games I see 75% to 85% of the seats empty, yet they've apparently drawn more than 50% of capacity every season bar 3 seasons. They don't even open the southern stand.

27,400 capacity.

Cowboys played at a dilapidated ground from 1995-2019 that had portable dunnies. Titans played at a state of the art stadium with fancy amenities.
That’s last year’s numbers. Go and look at the released data and be a bit more honest.

More proof your either cherry picking data to prove your own opinion or you’re happy to be dishonest to seem smart. Either way, you’re off again.
