"It’s very realistic to say that we’ll have a second team in Brisbane in 2023": V'landys

No, it's just somebody who lives in an afl state who won't listen to locals tell him about divisions & rivalries in Sydney. Its no coincidence that the north shore sees highest membership in certain codes & participation for soccer.
And yet no other code has a team based there, which just confirms you dont need a club in every suburb!

No, just means there's a void that other codes have exploited
How did they exploit it and why didn’t the nswrl make sure there wasn’t a void? We don’t have a club anywhere near our state yet our jnr numbers keep growing year on year. Sounds to me like it’s just a reflection of the poor job the game is doing in Sydney to convert an apathetic public to rl. It’s a shame rugby league didn’t take off in melbourne rather than Sydney.

It must really burn PR that Sydney is and always will be the epicentre of Rugby League. He really should give it away and give in to his man crush he has on AFL. The fact he doesn't just shows the masochistic tendencies he obviously has.

Void was created by "need" to rationalize league. Clubs are self interested & will do each other in if they can, something which has been happening since the says of glebe & annadale.
Outsider's suggestion that fans simply move to surviving teams is fantasy, as game is tribal & opposition is despised. In that climate rival codes can fill void & become club of the deposed.

Very much this. When Souths were cut I went from someone who watched every game of every round every week to totally giving up on League altogether and I know a number of other Souths fans who did the same. No way was I going to support another club as I hate them all to varying degrees.

How can Sydney be the epicentre of the RL world when 2 Queensland Cup clubs in Brisbane are bigger and richer than the Broncos, and the Broncos are bigger and richer than all of the Sydney NRL clubs?

Even when the Broncos finished last they made more money than Sydney clubs when they won premierships.

Putting a team in Cairns is just plain stupid. There's not enough people or businesses in the North Queensland area to support two teams.
Its a joint bid.... that means someone else is joining them, its not a cairns only bid, if it was i'd agree, but since its a PNG joint bid, it works for they have the country, appetite, players and cairns have the brand, and location to make a Png team work, like how the warriors have been in central coast due to covid, the same happened with the hunters at gold coast last season. Having cairns be a home base works on many levels, plus a rivalry with the neighbouring cowboys would be a great boost for the area, god knows the cows need a kick up the arse lately

Where are they going to get the money from?

I can understand the 10-15k rusted on bears fans being stubborn and not moving to another team but that was 20 years ago and there’s a million people in that region, why aren’t the other 990k people following rugby league and choosing a near by club to support?
Sydney must be a weirdo city is all I can say. When the Dockers came in people from Hilton or canning vale or melville or the 25 other southern suburbs didn’t refuse to support them Because they were called fremantle!

I still maintain that a second NZ team has more potential for it than a second Brisbane team. Saying that, of the bids put forth, I like the Firehawks & Dolphins the most and would be happy with either.

Same place Ipswich gets there's from....tehe
Apparently seems the PNG govt is super keen on funding it, i don't see it happening for a decade, but i like the bid, it reminds me of '95, and the hype around having the warriors enter
I hate the Ipswich bid and hope it is rejected.

So what's the "read" on reports so far?

Is it still looking like it's the Dolphins with the inside running?

You know as much about Cairns as I do about Penrith.

It will be them because they pose the least threat of "cannibalizing" the Broncos and Titans. Not sure what data they have that shows this though, plenty of Broncos fans around Redcliffe and Moreton Bay area. The Titans seem to believe they have fans on the south side of Brisbane... once again, not sure what data they are going by for this.
