"It is amateur hour at the NRL,'' Hasler

I don't give a f**k about the venue, but how hilarious is this:

NRL chief operating officer Graham Annesley last night hit back at Hasler's claims.
"We are not in the business of making amateurish decisions,'' Annesley said. "We firmly believe that this decision has been made in the best interests of the game. We're prepared to make the tough decisions even though they might be unpopular at times.

I fail to see how you can link what Tigers & Dragon supporters said to the Manly coach or supporters views here on this issue.

Which, by the way, I have proposed is not about the semantics of the venue but about the 'shifting goalposts" of the NRL decision making on this issue.

How have they "shifted the goalposts" by making this decision??

pffft remember when grand finals were played at the SFS? Didn't seem to matter much to the likes of Brisbane, Canberra etc

It is so much better than ANZ for watching rugby league

My advice to Des would be have a coke and a smile and stfu

Should be at ANZ, Roosters have the advantage of playing there all year where Manly have played there once?
Yes Manly get all the facilities but they don't play or train on that ground all year...
IMO it won't matter because the Roosters will be history after Friday night.

The way some people are carrying on this ground has fking mines planted in it and only the roosters know where they are.

Its a football field, its made of grass, is 100m in play length and has 2 in goals just like every other football field. Get over it.

They've picked the best stadium for the job. I don't know, people moan when we use ANZ, people moan when we use suburban grounds and now people are moaning at using SFS!

SFS is hardly Olympic Park, or Energy Australia Stadium or Lang Park. I think Des is reaching for press there.

 STILL with this advantage sh*t? ... exactly HOW do we have an advantage of playing manly at the SFS? ... it has been explained to you thousands of times it isn't an advantage ...

Clown. His own fans would rather play it at SFS. This issue comes up every year with either us, Bulldogs, Tigers, or hell maybe one day even Souths. Its a non-issue. If Hasler doesn't like it, maybe he should recommend changing Manly's home ground to the SFS.

We won't hear a peep about this issue until September 2009 after next weekend. It only ever seems to matter at the time, not when the decisions are made in Jan/Feb/Mar when something can be done about it, as I've said in another thread.

What about playing it at the SCG?

It is just next door to SFS so Manly/Easts fans would still find it easier to get to than ANZ, but the venue will be fair to both teams.

And it would be great to have a semi played at the SCG in the game's centenary year.

Yourself or someone else suggested that in another thread before - the SCG is impractical and in general a terrible ground to watch RL at these days. It's simply too far from the action in most places. ANZ is better than it in many respects.

Plenty of people attended the Aus/NZ test there in May (and there was also a WT/Souths game early in the year too).

Why anyone's still putting forward venue suggestions is beyond me, the NRL has confirmed the venue as the SFS and it's highly unlikely that will change.

What's he got to whinge about the Roosters in 1998 had to play melbourne in melbourne then newcastle in newcastle and brisbane in brisbane in the finals series that year- are manly supporters scared of travelling in the dark??

Spot on. People ONLY see a problem with this when it disadvantages their own team. I don't believe people are suggesting that Melbourne should be rewarded for losing...and the watching League at the SCG makes ANZ seem like Suncorp by comparison.

Your points regarding the SCG are valid, but if I was a Manly fan I know where I would rather play the Roosters, and that's at the SCG. For the sake of fairness the game should NEVER be at the SFS when the Roosters are involved.

The SCG was used by Rugby League on a regular basis for 70-odd years, and hosted many Grand Finals, so whilst I agree it's not a perfect Rugby League venue I don't see what the problem using it for a one-off game.

And it would be great to have a semi final there in the game's centenary season.

I believe what Des Hasler is suggesting is the goalposts usually stand in a nuetral venue.

Do they??

Funny that, considering the NRL's rules themselves state that the preliminary finals shall be hosted in the winners from week 1's home city.

Manly played their preliminary final last year at the Sydney football stadium. Hardly a neutral ground for a team from Townsville to play a team from Sydney
