Need a coach's challenge. And video on forward passes.

Anyway this wasn't a bad call. A bad call is forgiveable.

The ref did not know the rule.

It reminds me of Wessy Naiqama and Trent Barrett years ago after an Anzac day game

Bingo. I can live the best call. The penalty call was 100% incorrect in an way it can be looked at.

well theres 3 options

1. penalty to the sharks. offside player charges the ball down
2. Scrum Sharks. double knock on
3. if we didnt knock on after marshall, then its ours, 6 again from the 10 meter line.

but no. some how...the magic wildcard 4 option is played. no one saw it coming.

I use to ref when I was like 14-17. Still got a couple of the guys on FB who I reffed with. One still ref's and Maxwell was our coach (lol). He posted something about hating benji so I commented how his mate Maxwell robbed them.

Some girl who has a profile pic of her and Maxwell together (can safely assume gf or wife) has been trying to argue with me about it. Posted Harrigans quote this morning and she lost her shit.

The guy has since deleted the status so can't see any of it :(

Skeepe was Jeremy Smith's forward pass leading up to the Sharks first try deliberate or not based on the rulebook?

Whilst you have it out...

Let's make full use of the rule book. Whilst you're there can you point to the page of what a double movement is to Jared Maxwell.

Try every day of the week!

what is about Jared Maxwell and the tigers? why did he favour Cronulla so much . Thank goodness he got the double movement penalty right but with the sharks offside and the pass to carney for his try being well forward why is he still refereeing. when referees favour clubs like he favoured Cronulla today its time to make way for an impartial ref. Maybe it was his first match of the season but if he continues to back sides against the tigers and allow them them so much leeway he should be dropped.

Fortunately he got the penalty right for the ultimate field goal but I thought he was going to miss it. I hope Maxwell changes because im sick of the way he favours sides who play the tigers . Does he have something against the club?

Shame about Tedesco being out for the season.

I'm going to have to find another cheapie for my fantasy side.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but if the players were in front of kicker when he kicked the ball and within 10 metres of the kicker, wouldn't the penalty have been from before the charge down and thus warranted? I could be wrong the way they change the rules all the damn time though.

well, on a field goal everyone is gunna be infront of the kicker usually. so in theory it would have been no goal due to offside players in a scoring play had it gone over?

in any case, harrigan has siad he made a dud call. he's the reffs boss.

True, and I think that the rule is that they have to get involved in the play anyway because in Thursday nights match I heard that said and Gidley was awfully confused because he thought they just had to be within 10 metres.

If my understanding is correct, chasers in front of the kicker have to be 10m back from where the receiver catches the ball, and obviously can't play at the ball. However a touch of the ball by the opposition without retaining posession places everyone onside.

You'll often see chasers chasing from in front of the kicker - it's fine as long as they are 10m from the receiving fullback.

That's true. The weird thing about the rule is that a player who touches the ball without retaining it puts the chasers onside even if they were inside 10m of the player touching it when he touches it. It's a bit of an anomoly because the player/s inside the 10m may be a/the reason why the player failed to retain the ball if they put pressure on him. But that's the way the rule reads.

I suppose if you're gonna run the risk of an offside chase to pressure a fullback, you're putting yourself in a position where if he catches it (and most NRL fullbacks will) you're offside, and will either get penalised or not make the tackle.

Well in that case it is offside because there were players in front of Carney within 10 metres of the player who charged the ball down.

But as I said I think they have to have influence on the play now. A rule that nobody was told about, as indicated by Kurt Gidley on Thursday night.
