Ive got f**k all knowledge of the game - but it does seem to be very set in it ways to some degree. To me, it s just footy with forward passes & shepards & lots of breaks in play. I wonder how'd they react to a few lateral R.League type plays? Good old fashioned wrap around with a chip & chase, sideways face ball across 6 decoy runners?

There are 1000s of plays. Its not just a pass, you can go short-long-qb's have to watch for the blitz- double coverage on your wr's Do you take a chance and throw long if WR has inch of space? When you need inches do you go long or play safe and go short?
As far as a chip and chase - with a gridoin ball? gee.....

You do see some trick plays when teams are desperate, partic. when they receive a kick off and there is no time for another play. If you watch College football, there are a number of teams that play the triple option, which is essentially similar to a RL halfback running down a blind side with a centre/2nd rower on his outside, and having the choice to keep it, lateral to the runner or peg it downfield. It works (sometimes) in College because there is typically not enough quality in depth in the defenses. In the NFL, the defenses are too fast and you would just get smashed.

It's not as if the coaches don't spend hours and hours trying to devise plays that will work. You gotta remember that NFL defenders are allowed to contact attackers who don't have the ball in many circumstances....which makes plays involving laterals a lot harder.

Funny that you would even contemplate that thought. :?
That thought has never crossed my mind.

Suity

If he does move on from NFL, youd think the next rugby world cup would be on the radar. Hed walk into the current wallabies team, even with no experience. He could probably then back it up with taking GWS to their first flag, & then lead parra to glory in 2020.

Right - so youre saying The Wall or the Flying V wouldnt work? Shame. What about the pass-it-to-yourself-over-the-defenders-head?

flying v = quater back sneak.....

throw ball over head? then run around and catch? why not just run around them? You can still get taken out without ball so why throw it over there head and run around them and complicate the play?

You can't do a flying wedge unfortunately. You're allowed to pass it to yourself over the defenders head (if you are behind the line of scrimmage, and there hasn't already been a fwd pass)......but the defender is allowed to smash you just after you pass it.

Yeah fair nuff. Still, i reckon Hayne chiming into the backline from 10 yards out with both hands on the ball & bodies in motion on either side could still be a master-stroke. Maybe a coupla stiff arms? Semi could be on a specails team - designated Hayne cut out pass receiver. Semi could supplement his income by making tailgating appearences after the game to share some kava 'round.

How long till the 49ers game plan is simply, give it to Hayne?

Quite a while I suspect.

He is currently playing pre-season football against special teams that include considerable numbers of trialists.

Assuming he makes the cut (which would be a 95% chance now), he'll be used as a returner, and in specialist situations in general play. It will still be a sharp learning curve with respect to the 'hard yards' game....and that's just natural....no criticism of JH.

Are you a public servant by any chance, Barry?

Don't be modest.

There are plenty of other things you have f**k all knowledge of.

HJ your beeing a little harsh on the guy but yeah some guys on here constantly bag Luke Burt and all he did for our club. This in itself is frustrating. Probably the same guys who bagged Cayless and hindmarsh for staying too long.

And how many of you guys bagged me and RON for talking about NFL ? Some real dick pullers on here TBH.

Only if you take him seriously.
